It'll be Ed Sheeran next weekend when they beat Ipswich then.
  • The best solution will be Pal@rse getting buttfucked 10 nil next round and the Spanners 1st team being kidnapped by mad Jihaddists and no one likes em enough to pay a ransome...

Seems like you’re the one who needs it explaining…It wasn’t just about the name change. The 92 Sky deal changed the finances massively. Which made the gap between the top two tiers grow far bigger than it had been before. So it is significant to say you’ve never played in the Prem because when you were in the top division it wasn’t as difficult to get or stay there.
That’s such a daft concept I’m not sure if you’re on a wind up or not. Regardless of how difficult or not you think the top flight was at any given time in history, it’s still the top flight. Always has been from when football started.

Are all of liverpools title wins meaningless because most of them happened outside of the PL era?

I’d say the FA Cup was easier to win back in the 1930’s, when you look at the variety of teams who won it back then compared to now. Does that mean the one you Charlton won back then doesn’t count? Of course not. Don’t talk daft mate.

Out of interest, how old are you? Is the 99 in your username the year you was born? That might explain a lot to be honest.
Easier to win in the 30’s - how the hell can you say that ? You were there were you ? And irrelevant to Charlton as well Stuwall

Seen a few posts looking at past trade offs, but how about future ones.

If you could choose only one of the following this season, which would it be?

    a) Charlton get promoted
    b) Palace don't win FA Cup

(You must assume if you pick one, then other won't happen as it's a trade off?)

I'm an 'a', so would rather go up and Palace win the cup than we don't and Palace lose.
    I'm afraid I'm more of a b)...

The mere thought of the Nigels having a open top bus parade around the streets of Croydon makes me want to heave...
Surely not just Croydon, but all london boroughs south off the river lol

During the last 30 years, apart from on just three occasions (Portsmouth, Wigan and Leicester), the same five teams have won it every year.

During the 30’s and 40’s only one team (Arsenal, twice)won it more than once. That would suggest it was more of a level playing field then, thus easier to win. Lots of teams had a good chance. Unlike these days.

...and Millwall STILL didn't win it!

Uncle Adolf stared a little war just as Charlton were about to dominate.
If it wasn’t for him Charlton would have won a couple of titles along with a couple of cups and history would be different.

By the way I still prefer Millwall to Palace despite all your nonsense.
We was the 13th best supported club in the country before the war. Charlton were probably even higher. I think both our clubs got affected badly by the war. Didn’t help us either that our ground got bombed.
  • Went to Pompy vs palace a long while ago just for the chance to see palace relegated, they needed a win to stay up, unfortunately Pompy let me down.....

    Slightly distasteful.

    They won't care.
  • What a weird thread!
Anyone in here saying they’d rather Charlton not to go up is off their head!
Charlton winning & progressing is absolutely and unquestionably the most important thing!
The neanderthals not making the Premier League or the wet drips not winning the cup will never come close to enjoying promotion with Charlton!

Well yeh, but fortunately it's not an either / or choice.
The question "why hate Palace?" is moronic to me ( no offence).
This is football, it doesn't have to be rational. But the reasons have been done to death on other threads.
Palace winning the cup will completely fcuk with my head. Forever.
It will stain any joyous promotion winning campaign for me.
No it isn't. But it was a hypothetical question I posed deliberately framed as an either/ or and has been answered as such. I agree with @drawnablank, but clearly not all do.
  • Being pleased about your own successes brings happiness.

Being jealous of others success will only bring you misery.

    YMMV

  • Promotion from league one isn't success, it's a step towards it.
Felt like it to me the last time I was at Wembley, and a few thousand felt the same way I think.

That was the relief and joy at not being in League One and entering the EFL Trophy bollox with palace u21s

I get that, but it would still make me happier to see a repeat of that win in the final than it would seeing Palace lose there, although neither might be playing a final there this season anyway.

As ashamed as I am to be related to someone who attends the most awful concerts of musical taste (Beyonce, Ed Sheeran etc) @LargeAddick is right about it being The Stone Roses.

The only moronic part is that any of us use the word ’hate.’

Well the dictionary definition of hate is intense dislike.
And to be fair, I did qualify my post by saying football is irrational.
Beyond that, only a moron wouldn't hate Palace  ;)
