Seems like you’re the one who needs it explaining…It wasn’t just about the name change. The 92 Sky deal changed the finances massively. Which made the gap between the top two tiers grow far bigger than it had been before. So it is significant to say you’ve never played in the Prem because when you were in the top division it wasn’t as difficult to get or stay there.
That’s such a daft concept I’m not sure if you’re on a wind up or not. Regardless of how difficult or not you think the top flight was at any given time in history, it’s still the top flight. Always has been from when football started.
Are all of liverpools title wins meaningless because most of them happened outside of the PL era?
I’d say the FA Cup was easier to win back in the 1930’s, when you look at the variety of teams who won it back then compared to now. Does that mean the one you Charlton won back then doesn’t count? Of course not. Don’t talk daft mate.
Out of interest, how old are you? Is the 99 in your username the year you was born? That might explain a lot to be honest.
Easier to win in the 30’s - how the hell can you say that ? You were there were you ? And irrelevant to Charlton as well Stuwall
During the last 30 years, apart from on just three occasions (Portsmouth, Wigan and Leicester), the same five teams have won it every year.
During the 30’s and 40’s only one team (Arsenal, twice)won it more than once. That would suggest it was more of a level playing field then, thus easier to win. Lots of teams had a good chance. Unlike these days.
Uncle Adolf stared a little war just as Charlton were about to dominate. If it wasn’t for him Charlton would have won a couple of titles along with a couple of cups and history would be different.
By the way I still prefer Millwall to Palace despite all your nonsense.
We was the 13th best supported club in the country before the war. Charlton were probably even higher. I think both our clubs got affected badly by the war. Didn’t help us either that our ground got bombed.
Just seen that today's edition of Antiques Roadshow is from Crystal Palace. I look forward to seeing lots of stripey Tudor-era memorabilia and artefacts valued well into single figures.
An authentic Palace shirt worn by Henry VIII perhaps?
Any football historian can tell you, he had a trial with them, but he had persistant relationship issues which curtailed his footballing aspirations with them...
