Last day of the regular season brings Burton to the Valley. The visitors have secured their stint in League One for next year and the Addicks have already claimed a place in the playoffs; all that remains is to determine who plays whom for the chance at promotion.
Charlton started brightly but it was Burton that struck first. Against the run of play, Burton were awarded a penalty when Alex Mitchell fumbled a backpass and Ashely Maynard-Brewer brought down the Burton player in the box. On twelve and a half minutes Charlton were 0-1 down.
But that lead only lasted about ten minutes. It was Matty Godden again, when Alex Mitchell’s timely tackle resulted in a counterattack that ended with Godden rounding the keeper and scoring from a difficult angle. Not content, Godden scored his second, masterfully turning his defender on the edge of the box and finishing with his left foot past the keeper.
The third goal came early in the second half through Alex Mitchell himself, heading home from a Conor Coventry cross. His redemption for his earlier mistake was then complete. A full debut for Ibrahim Fullah and a handful of further subs meant that Charlton finished out the match with a handful of young academy prospects. Fullah came close on a couple of occasions to scoring on his debut, with one rifled off the crossbar/post.
Elsewhere, Wycombe took an early lead over Stockport but it was Stockport that struck twice in quick succession in the second half to claim third. Leyton Orient claim the final place in the playoffs and look to face Stockport if my calculations are correct. Wycombe have fallen apart int he crucial final stages of the season, with three straight losses, and won’t relish facing the Addicks on the road to Wembley. Hopefully, Charlton will capitalise on that.

Because Burton Albion... You've been SUNK!!
However the Captain of HMS Reach the Play-Offs only allows for a small smile, because he knows the real battle is about to begin!!
Wemberly
We’ve got a good route to promotion here if we can get the weary and wounded back, keep focused and on the front foot.
anyway he made up for it.
obviously a popular player
Good to see some of the youngsters getting a run out. Would have done then good being in front of a bumper 20k crowd.
Now onto next week.
Nervous now, in a good way.
Hopefully we can put out our strongest squad and get past Wycombe over the two matches and then see what happens at Wembley.
Luckily we're playing Wycombe first who seem to be in a bit of a free-fall at the moment. But can imagine they'll be a tough test regardless.
