Just on the train home after some dinner at a superb Italian restaurant in town with the kids. Just the perfect day. I'm not used to not having to apologise to the kids after a game for making them support us - but this season...I love our club.
As much as I hope we get Small back soon Watson has offered some really brilliant stuff in an attacking sense in the last two games. There's question marks over his partnership with Ramsay down that side given they'd both ideally like to be right backs, but Watson's intelligent running led to our two best chances against Wrexham, one he should have scored or assisted after a great run and touch and the other he deserved an assist for off another brilliantly timed run. His pass for Godden today was exceptional and if he can keep offering that level of threat we won't miss Small anywhere near as much as we would have feared a couple of weeks ago
You're right. I'd much rather small but I'm less worried about Watson in that role than I was a couple months or even weeks ago.
Ramsay looked world class. Pretty complete performance.
Mitchell looked excellent at the things he's good at - aerial ability both in our box heading every ball away and in theirs, commanding the area, leading and organising the defense, physicality. But looks uncomfortable when asked to do too much with the ball (though there were some moments that were pretty good 2nd half bit he won't get space and time like that in the playoffs) and lacks a little pace. I've said all along if Jones is out he should play that role. We just need to adapt the way that back line operates at little to not expose his weaknesses.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but why were the awards done on the pitch today and not at a POTY event like normal ?
I think NJ cancelled it, as he wanted all the focus to be on what happens on the pitch, rather than a distraction of a night in a bar. He wants them all tucked up in bed nice and early with eyes on the prize. As much as I like the POTY evening, I'm happy to miss it if it means a shot at promotion.

Genuinely devastated that this year we're not going to hear DaisyEdwards' views on how the POTY dinner is a farce and everyone involved should be shot or whatever. That's like my Christmas!
A guy on the International Addicks WhatsApp, whom I don't know, but seems pretty solid, says he was at the match and sat with Thierry Small on the train back, and TS told him that he, Jones and Berry will all be fit for next weekend.
Feels like the stars are aligning for us, doesn't it?

Lloyd Jones will probably play with an injection but fit ? Thierry, we have no idea what his problem was so hope he plays after missing two matches and we were told Berry just had cramp (after 27 minutes !) after his rocket against Wycombe so we really need our best 11 to start and the rest of the 7 on the bench to impact, if and when needed.
One small thing, on Charlton TV Terry and greg were plugging the line that today's attendance was the biggest this season for home fans. But that surely isn't true because the Wrexham attendance was 24,692 and Wrexham didn't even sell out their allocation.
Unless they decided that those wearing half and half scarves didn't count as home fans ?
Mitchell’s goal to cap off his comeback after that back pass. Clearly a popular player and at very least a decent backup centre back. Thought he had a very good game apart from that one mistake.
Fullah hitting the crossbar. Had that gone in on his debut…(it was his debut but wasn’t it?) Godden's goals. Both brilliant.
Gilbert’s passing. Sublime at times. Thought he worked hard as well, and I wouldn’t be unhappy to see more of him in the playoffs.
Watson who looks better and better. He can also pass a bit.
Ramsay, back to his best, looked at class apart at times. Edwards putting on the after burners to outpace their winger. He has pace to burn. And what a ball for Goddon’s second.
Their 20, Srajha, was like a one man defence. Might be worth a closer look.

Feel sick , but 3 mingey clubs in the play offs with us is as much as we could want , we’ll comfortably outnumber whoever we play in the final for the first time support wise . We have done well but achieved nothing, unless we are promoted. last years 3 play off losing teams ended up 8th, 12th and 18th this season (edit*just for some balance the previous season it was the same 3 play off losing teams as last season !) I’ve said for a while play off final losers but this team never gives up , I just hope we have the legs for it , cruising against an on the beach Burton means nowt but job done and wounded Wycombe up next . Very good season (if there is such a thing in League One without promotion ) can become one of the most memorable if we complete the job on May 25th (27 years on since we hit a real high spot in Charltons Life )

What an enjoyable afternoon that was.
Though Srajha was awful, very poor close control and unable to do the simple things well.
Only disappointment was Fullah not getting his goal! Still great debut and you can really see what NJ is doing throughout the club. There is a real cohesion with all academy levels. Looks like we have the right team behind the wheel. Coupled with getting rid of CM and a few of the others this season, looks like we’re a club that means business again.
We were talking about this at the game. We can see the u21 getting decent game time in league 1 next year, but there will probably be too big a gap for most to see them much in the championship.
Really enjoyed yesterday, great crowd and brilliant singing……. even when we went behind it felt like it was just a matter of time and how many we’d score. Loved seeing some of the players…… led by Macca I think…… giving it large to Mitchell after he’d been the catalyst for Goddens first….. and then NJ brought him over to the touchline to do the same…. 👍big thumbs up! Wasn’t so impressed with Doc when Tennai had the spat….. after it calmed a bit it didn’t look like Tennai or the Burton guy were finished with it…… I looked for Doc expecting him to go over to help if needed but he was walking the other way through the centre circle….. not looking…. and then it kicked off again…… Tennai should have done better both times but I was disappointed with Docs demonstrable leadership…… hope someone has a word with him, the next matches will be intense and he will need all his spidey leadership senses tuned right in….. and maybe he should do a bit more shooting practice this week too 😀
Just seen the goals back for the first time. I must have been half-watching in the ground, I'd assumed for Godden's first he was put in by a Burton player, such was the weight of pass and absolute acreage he was in - but great assist for Watson. For Godden's second, I can't be the only one watching that turn past the defender and having a flashback to Mendonca's turn in '98.

You weren’t, a few of us made that comparison on the match thread.

The defender made the stupid decision to try and half block Godden's run instead of actually chasing back with him. I had to rewatch the goal a few times because it kept feeling like the defender had just disappeared into thin air. I think if I was the Burton manager I would never stop beating my player for letting a striker run through so unopposed like that

I was away for the Wrexham game, but it did look pretty packed yesterday, except for the JSS.
Burton’s right sided player didn’t get the memo about stepping up to catch Godden offside. Or it was something Godden noticed early and decided he wanted to take advantage of.
Same bloke he turned 10 minutes later to help us take the lead.
It was great that Burton had just secured their place in L1 in midweek, as they didn't have to play with any intencity, which meant no over physical challenges, which could have resulted in players picking up knocks. Hopefully those rested will be rejuvinated for next week and we can go into this mini campaign at (almost) full strength.
AMB: 7 sold short for the penalty and did ok. RAMSAY: 9 Kayne just glides over the pitch. Looked really good with some great runs forward. MITCHELL: 6.5 TBF he bounced back with a goal after the shocker of a pass back. GILLESPHEY: 7.5 Macca is now the rock even without Lloyd. WATSON: 7 decent game as a stand in. GILBERT: 8 great passing 1st half and pleased he got 85 minutes today. COVENTRY: 8.5 high standard Connor DOCHERTY: 7.5 fantastic work rate but should've had a brace. EDWARDS: 8 consistent Left footed Left back. Solid. GODDEN: 9.5 two cracking strikes to turn the game around. CAMPBELL: 7.5 always a threat and can save a finish for the next games. Lovely assist for the 3rd. Referee: 7 no issues and got the penalty and just a yellow correct with double jeopardy rule.
MBick: n/a keen Kanu: n/a keen Anderson: n/a wins tackles Fullah: n/a should have scored ! Enslin: n/a I thought it was McIntyre who came on so I may need to go to Specsavers.
Saw this got a LOL and read through the whole thing wondering why.
Thoughtful analysis of the day's action, why give him a Looooh I see.
