A guy on the International Addicks WhatsApp, whom I don't know, but seems pretty solid, says he was at the match and sat with Thierry Small on the train back, and TS told him that he, Jones and Berry will all be fit for next weekend.
Feels like the stars are aligning for us, doesn't it?
Fantastic but NJ won't like that being in the public domain if true 😬
I reckon NJ told Thierry to travel by public transport and spread rumours, knowing it will probably end up here, Wycombe will be spying on our forum, and now they don't know what our likely line-up is.
It don't matter what lineup we put out, they're in the bin mate...🙄
I was in the barbers and a bloke was having his decent length hair all shaved off, so i asked him 'bit of a drastic cut any reason? And who do you fancy for the league one playoff semi-final wycombe Charlton' and he said 'why comb mate? And Charlton'

Nice run out in the sun - and avoiding a trip to Stockport. Happy Days.
Midfield was very effective today with Gilbert adding finesse in the first half with some lovely passing. Ramsey was having a ball at the back and driving forward at every opportunity but my shout out goes to Mitchell who overcame that early horror pass to play very well at the back.
I can't think of another individual player to ever stage such a turnaround from a mare in the same game.

That Mitchell back pass, I've seen Charlton players trap a ball further than that! But he recovered and is obviously more comfortable in the middle of a three. Probably, not growing up in an academy, he didn't play much as a full back,so doesn't know the nuances of covering accross.
I don't know the quality of the coaches at New Windsor Kestrels but Alex Mitchell joined Millwall at 17 and has had 6 years of Professional coaching so I don't understand where a poor attempt at a back pass has anything to do with not joining an academy earlier 🤔
Read my post again. The academy comment was about him not playing FB because he was already quite tall for a kid and didn't get RB exposure , hence his naivety at RCB. Even at 17 his main sport was rowing.

This sort of error could and has happened to anyone, remember Gerrard falling over and losing the title with that one mistake.Fair play to Mitchell and his team mates,he was immediately consoled and played very well for the rest of the game.

Agree, It was brilliant to see Mitchell bounce back, score a goal, playing well after the terrible attempt at a back pass. The Jeopardy involved is high yet it's the modern way and watching the highlights of EFL it happens with many goals conceded; Slipping over is different but poor passing back or shorts kicks from keepers to defenders while being closed down is the risk business that the majority of teams and their coaches have signed up to.
Mitchell is only 23 and being a young rower as a teen is a tall strong guy who only lost his place, as Ramsey, Jones and Gillesphey became the 1st choice trio of CB with Small and Edwards as the wing backs.
If/when needed let's hope it was a one off 🤞🏻 for Alex as it wasn't a pretty sight to see him down a river without a paddle !
Remember those teams of the week are all based on aggregated stats and not watching games. His goal will have bumped him up above most CBs despite the error. He had a decent game otherwise too
Mitchell’s goal to cap off his comeback after that back pass. Clearly a popular player and at very least a decent backup centre back. Thought he had a very good game apart from that one mistake.
Fullah hitting the crossbar. Had that gone in on his debut…(it was his debut but wasn’t it?) Godden's goals. Both brilliant.
Gilbert’s passing. Sublime at times. Thought he worked hard as well, and I wouldn’t be unhappy to see more of him in the playoffs.
Watson who looks better and better. He can also pass a bit.
Ramsay, back to his best, looked at class apart at times. Edwards putting on the after burners to outpace their winger. He has pace to burn. And what a ball for Goddon’s second.
Their 20, Srajha, was like a one man defence. Might be worth a closer look.
What an enjoyable afternoon that was.
Though Srajha was awful, very poor close control and unable to do the simple things well.
Well from the covered end we really noticed him in the second half, and he certainly wasn’t awful. Good close control, good touch and hardly put a foot wrong. Put in a few really good blocks as well.
Think he fits that subsect of un-combative, positionally poor CBs who flatter to deceive because they look elegant gliding around the pitch. It's telling that we could've scored three more in the latter stages of the second half, with all our front players being from the youth team!
That’s why I said we were saying he was a one man defense, as the rest were so awful. I’ll try to watch the second half again on Charlton TV, as maybe I got it wrong. Always possible :-)
Burton collectively fell apart, and we could easily have scored five or six. Very enjoyable game, either way. Let’s hope Wycombe fall apart in the same fashion.
Haven’t watched the second half again, but looking at the highlights Srajha totally blew it for Godden’s second. He gambled that Godden would turn to his left, so when he went the other way he was left behind.
I might have to cross him off the scouting list for that alone, because it was such a fundamental error.
The Team of the week must be picked by AI looking at stats. By any criteria a defender making an error that led to a goal can't possibly get into a team of the week when you have 24 teams to chose from unless a robot is involved in the selection 🤖
I thought the ref had a decent game. In terms of the penalty, he got it exactly right under the laws of the game. It is the double jeopardy rule where yes, AMB denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity but the ref deemed he attempted to get the ball. So a foul which involves holding, pulling or anything else where there was no possibility to play the ball, it would have been a penalty and a sending off. The Man Utd v Athletic Club on Thursday was a clear example of the latter.
Team of the week is always based on numbers presented by sites that rely on data collection.
Mitchell scored a goal as a centre back. That will always heavily increase his number for the day.
He also had a 80% pass accuracy, 7 long balls attempted with 4 being accurate, 60% of aerial duels won, 100% of ground duels won, and 16 clearances.
The goal would have outweighed the error leading to their goal, he didn't directly give a penalty, so the data site will read it as more of an error for AMB.
I've already said it on this thread and others but Mitchell is very very good in the air in both boxes. I'd go as far as to say on a par with Jones in that respect. He rises high and can act like a sweeper and head crosses away before they come to anything.
He has the physicality, commitment and leadership/organisation aspects down too. Similar type player to Jason Pearce.
What he doesn't have is the ability on the ball that our first choice back 3 do. He also lacks a bit of pace (also like Pearcey). In the right setup I'm convinced he could be an absolute monster at this level. Not sure that works in our setup where we want to play out from the back. But a back 3 can work with 2 ball players and one more physical. Whether he dies this with us or elsewhere depends on what Jones wants and what league we are in.
If Jones can't play it should be him and we adapt our setup a little so he isn't expected to do too much on the ball. Don't put him in situations like yesterday's, and give him licence to just lump it if he needs to.

He was in a no win situation.
That said I don't rate AMB at all. I think he is a bit crap to be honest
Technically he only played a weak pass for their goal, he didn't give away the penalty, despite his actions causing it.
Its why "stats" only get you so far.
