Gotta say I do enjoy penalty shoot outs.
Every Sunday league final I've been to (as a supporter) that ended in penalties, I've come out on the winning side. Remember a coach trip to Carshalton FC with the Horse and Groom years ago and a couple to Croydon Athletic, I think one was with the old Cons / Liberal Club. @DA9 or @ROTW should be able to confirm who and where. Great days on and off the pitch and in the pub after.
Edit - Pretty sure there was one up VCD n'all?0 -
Is NJ the type of manager to substitute his keeper in the 29th minute of extra time if he feels the one on the bench is stronger at saving penalties? I wouldn't put it past him.0

2. Play 90 minutes.
3. If the scores are level, the team that won the pre kick off shoot out is awarded one goal.
4. 30 minutes extra time, with goals counting double.
This way, the game is either decided in the ninety minutes, or in extra time: goals scored on the pitch, within time decide the result, not a post-match shoot out.I like a mix of both ideas - you only bring in the shootout if it’s still level after 90 minutes.
Say it’s 0-0 and Team A wins the shootout - they’d go into extra time with a 1-0 lead. Goals in extra time would count double, ensuring that one team is ahead by the end of 120 minutes. That way, it feels as though the match has been settled by 30 minutes of football, not by a coin flip shootout after 120 minutes has been played.

Nothing works better then pens, it's brutal if you lose, but for the theater, for the tension, and the cleanness of how its done, its the best option6

I know it's a bit of a dirty word but ultimately we watch sport as entertainment and the drama of penalties is very entertaining. I will always watch a penalty shoot out if I can, even if I haven't seen the match before it because they're great drama0

I absolutely love penalties. It's the most memorable way to win an important game. Pure ecstacy for the winners, agony for the losers.
I'll have to confess I loved every second of our shootout Vs Doncaster, one of the best experiences of my life, wasn't at the Sunderland shootout.
We were very lucky to witness a penalties win followed up with an injury time winner last time. More of the same drama please.
Or a nice 10 nil will do.2 -

you will just have one team defending and timewasting to protect their penalty goal0 -
Anyone know our record in pen shootouts?? Must be a boffin on here .0

Adds a bit more skill to it & the keeper can choose to come off his line and narrow the angle or try to smother the ball. The "penalty" taker then has options whether to go round the keeper or take a shot.
Allow multiple touches but put them on the clock and no rebounds allowed.
5 V 5 corners could also be interesting, also more of a team tie-breaker than individual.
I doubt either could replace shoot outs though, which I'm not a fan of!1 -

Hate them, but it does seem the fairest way. On another note I would scrap extra time and get stuck into the penalties straightaway.2

Probably won’t ever happen but I’d like to say it trialled somewhere to see how players and fans reacted to it.1 -

Start with one goalie, then add another each time, until they miss.1

That team (despite having someone who would go onto to be an England international) was never gonna get promoted looking back0 -
