We've got to match them physically but essential that we do so without losing our heads. We certainly don't want any red cards on the night but I also guess that two yellows over the two legs means players miss the final - puts Doc at risk.
Do you? - Never known that one before
Edit: Nope its not the case, like the World Cup which is the example I imagine you're thinking of
Yellow cards, on the other hand, are reset for the play-offs. That means players will not miss the final due to bookings picked up during the play-off campaign itself. Only a red card would lead to a suspension in these critical fixtures.
I expected us to prioritise not losing. We had to win in the Easter game but getting to the Valley level puts us in a strong position. I think their best chance was to grab a goal or two last night.
Being able to start Small & Campbell on Thursday is key, I think. If we can attack and press from all angles, we should be ok. We must be on the front foot from the very first second, don't give them an inch. A repeat of the Huddersfield performance is called for - for those not at 100% maybe the adrenaline will carry them through.
If things don't go to plan, Aneke as the option off the bench ought to be unplayable - he's had a few weeks to be focused on this one opponent, and one game.
Proud of every one of our players and those on the bench in not rising to Wycombe dark arts.
It was clear they were going for physical/bully tactics from the start, and when that didn't work they tried to purposely hurt us (Kone stamp on Ramsay prime example), and then they were just trying to get us to react and get ourselves sent off.
None of it worked and I'm sure Wycombe will be annoyed by that, and will be coming up with a different dark arts plan for Thursday.
Well done everyone in not reacting and keeping 11 on the pitch.
As I thought they would, they tried to rough us up, it didn't work and by the end they had run out of puff and we almost nicked it. Our defence was as tight and superbly organised as it has ever been.
The game itself ? .. one where the referee could have called it off to save the ball further punishment. One for the committed, little skill, all about defenders taking no chances, hoof it anywhere out of danger, BUT of course always intriguing. Not one for the 'purist' but a great watch for us Addick fans. Can't wait for chapter 2
Everything about this 'tackle' is mindblowing. This image is at the BEGINNING of the assault, literally the definition of dangerous play. He goes with his right foot and doesn't get there so he swings his left and is so so far away from the ball. Look where the ball is in relation to where he makes contact?!
Its a no brainer red card on VAR and its also one of those where by giving a yellow it's almost more insulting, the ref must have seen the tackle/something to produce a yellow but has decided its not red worthy. The guy rides the back of his Achilles like this for a good meter or so
Throw in that Orient goal where you can drive a bus between the defender and offside goalscorer and it's been a successful weekend for L1 officials.
Last night summed up league one, whoever came up with the phrase ‘The beautiful game’ needs shooting!
A couple of hours before our game i watched El Clasico. If you'd never seen a game before yesterday and had no idea what football was, and then watched that game and our game, you'd think they were 2 different sports.
Looking at the Wycombe message board, I think it's quite telling that they thought the referee was good in complete contrast to the views here.
They also seem to think that our post Xmas good form and large crowd will work against us which kind of defies logic. I do think some players (e.g. Coventry) suffered from nerves in the 1st half last night but I also think our coaching team will make sure that is long gone come Thursday.
Expect us to go right at them from the off.
Got to admire the cope there from their supporters, we've had 20k+ a few times this season, and not lost. It's like a few people on here who said Wrexham would fold under the pressure at the Racecourse, and it ended up lifting them up.
for those watching at home be grateful you were not there and thank your lucky stars your ear drums missed out on the 1986 MegaDeath album we were subjected to at half time.
The most bizarre show of half time music ever played, particularly given setting and fanbase. My ears are still badly ringing this morning.
Bizarre place Wycombe.
Perhaps Mr Sangaard could serenade the away end (only) on Thursday with his guitar, as a one off comeback special- with the volume cranked up to 11. However, as it appears that WW are only bringing 48 fans, it would be cruel to inflict this on our own supporters if we do get to split the stand.
MANNION: made the one save he had to make EDWARDS: unremarkable GILLESPHEY: occasionally indecisive and distribution was sketchy JONES: decent under the relentless high balls RAMSAY: unremarkable but slowed up by Kone's vicious and cynical assault - hopefully he'll be fine for Thursday DOCHERTY: awful relentlessly gave the ball away COVENTRY: see Docherty CAMPBELL: shackled by the dogged cheating Grimmer and his colleagues BERRY: ineffective WATSON: unremarkable GODDEN: made the absolute most of dreadful service, unfortunate Norris was on top form Referee: yet another hopeless blight on the game - declined 3 clear cut offenses for which Kone should have been dismissed and one for Udoh's elbow - these hopelessly inadequate losers with whistles may not consciously seek to change the result but their degree of unsuitability for the task at hand ultimately cheats we supporters and removes the integrity of the game.
Co-commentator has to give it to a home player. As none really stood out she just pick a name out. Another 10 mins & Norris would have got it
I can't agree with this. I think Grimmer was their best player in BOTH matches at their place this season. I'd be more than happy to have him as our right back if we needed to make a signing. If it has to go to a home player then she definitely got it right.
Grimmer played well. He dominated TC all night.
TC completely had his number at The Valley this season. The first time TC went past him, Grimmer didn't know what to do, so decided to dive, pretending TC had fouled him. TC was about 12 yards away when Grimmer began going down and nobody else was anywhere near him. A textbook Wycombe move that I have seen them do many times before.
For the rest of the game, Grimmer kept trying to kick him in the shin at the earliest opportunity, but TC was too quick for him.
Some appalling behaviour from a few of our supporters tonight.
A few people who found their seats occupied were threatening those in them with violence and hurling abuse at them.
Ridiculously, this was happening at the back of the stadium by people who wanted to sit!
First an old man hobbled to the back of the stand with his grandson supporting him. They found their seats taken and, instead of asking them to move, they IMMEDIATELY began shouting 'C*nts' at them over and over. The people moved, but several others got involved and politely informed them that, if they were sat at the back, they would be standing for 90 minutes. These people were also called c*nts for trying to be helpful.
Subsequently, another old man arrived by himself and found his seat taken by a youngster.
The young guy politely explained that people generally sit where they like at away games, but the old man was adamant that he wanted his seat. The youngster moved for him, but the old man still kept kicking off and was threatening to beat the young supporter up for having dared to sit in his seat in the first place.
The youngster quipped back asking the old man if it was the first away game of his life. Ridiculously, the old man responded with 'Actually, it's the second away game I have been to! Wrexham the other week was the first away game I ever went to!'
He didn't seem to realise that he was proving the youngster's point as, when others also asked if he would be fine standing for 90 minutes, he proudly boasted that this was his third game all season (he also went to Burton at home) and that he used to be a season ticket holder when we were in the Premier League, so he knows what it's like. It was reiterated that everybody in front of him would be standing, but he kept going on about how many seasons he had watched us at home in the Premier League, so he knew best.
Queue kick-off and the pair of old men began kicking off, yelling at those around then to sit down and be respectful, since they had paid for tickets and deserved to be able to watch the match just like the rest of us.
It was pointed out to them by those in front that, if they sat down, they wouldn't be able to see as the people in front of them would be stood up and so on as almost everybody was standing.
They complained to the stewards to try and get everybody to sit, but the stewards had witnessed their earlier altercations and reminded them that they had been told to sit at the front if they wanted to sit down as neither allocated seating or seating itself was being enforced.
The old man who was alone was a nightmare for the rest of the match. As well as constantly whining about having to stand, he was complaining that Charlton fans were singing and the drummer was drumming!
Instead of accepting responsibility, he directed his anger at the youngster who was originally in his seat, constantly threatening to beat him up once they were out the ground.
It was already a rather dull game, especially the first half, but having to endure 90 minutes of whining on top, made it an evening worse experience.
It's came up many times before about how Valley Gold is overvalued and supporters who actually attend matches miss out over those that don't go. But seeing a guy who has been to three games in the past 18 years attending a sold out away end tonight really takes the biscuit.
How the hell do people like this get enough loyalty points to get tickets?
Referee leniency in play-off games isn't a new thing. Who remembers Peter Shirtliff's knee to the back of Ian Baird's head at St Andrews? (not saying Baird didn't deserve that btw...)
Wycombe served up the most cynical and determined display of anti-football I've seen in 40+ years of attending matches. The blatant timewasting didn't emerge until the final quarter but the dedication to spoiling, disruption and physical dark arts was remarkable in its consistency. They rumbled the woeful inadequacy of referee Hallam early on and played him like the congenital idiot he is. Were I not a Charlton fan I might even grudgingly admire how doggedly Wycombe stuck to their plan. Mike Dodds's insouciant bullshit after the match was equally impressive in its calm mendacity. Nathan Jones is worthy of high praise for keeping his cool too, given Dodds and Wycombe's conduct. Charlton's 13 did well to keep a lid on what must have been intense frustration. It was truly awful to watch but the 5 minutes of football Charlton strung together after the substitutions gives hope for Thursday night.

Also makes Leahy running into Chuks to get him sent off even more infuriating
I think we need to be careful ahead of Thursday. The crowd is definitely going to work in our favour, so if I was Dodds I'd get them to put similar pressure on us from the off, and try to shut the crowd up - At least that's what I'd do.
WE MUST NOT SHUT UP! Even for a moment. A bunch of anti football Wycombe thug players won’t silence me….I AM NOT A NUMBER BUT A FREE MAN!
As tedious as that was, my grain of comfort is that we know for a fact that we CAN play much better and find another gear - I'm not convinced the same can be said of Wycombe.
If we start the second leg like we ended the first then we should still win comfortably honestly.
You only hold somebody & run into them if you want to stamp on their leg, but make it appear as if it was accidental clash. As you're nearly on the ground, you might as well follow through with a studs-in slide tackle too.
It was always going to be a polar opposite game to the recent 4-0 thrashing as both teams were determined not to lose rather than CAFC had to win or Wycombe would risk a home defeat.
Carbon copy of the Stockport 0-0 arm wrestle or in this game, studs on the ankle to Ramsey by Kone and a forearm smash to the head by Odoh on Macca.
IF both TC and Small can find their best form at the Valley and Berry, Docherty and especially Godden get chances in and around the box. TC and Small always play better in tandem and they can switch flanks depending on the state of the game.
Orient v Stockport was a decent game of football but this was head tennis and wrestling with hardly any control of the football BUT we are level and only the Charlton fantasists thought we would emulate the 21st April drubbing at Wycombe.
Let's beat Wycombe by using the width of the pitch and Thierry finally finds the net from 25 yards with his left foot when he cuts in.

If they double mark both then they'd be leaving HUGE gaps, it just isn't possible, especially with how clever Berry and Godden are at finding little pockets of space
We witnessed some genuinely shocking officiating last night and I hope the referee for Thursday was watching and took notes.
It's also easy for us to say that the large crowd and home advantage on Thursday should work in our favour but the high pressure situation and loud atmosphere could very well spook our boys, too.
If we don't get overwhelmed by the occasion/atmosphere and have a somewhat competent referee then we'll be fine.

I had edited before I saw your post to IF TC and Small can find their best form at the Valley.
The point I was making is both TC and Thierry do get double marked but not at the same time as obviously that would leave mega gaps for Godden and co to exploit.
We need to play passing football on the front foot and hope our wide men can take League 1 defenders to the cleaners as well as being able to deliver.
Well Wycombe gave it their best shot (in fact their only one shot) and came up short. Watching the game was on a par to pulling teeth and an out of his depth ref just didn't have the cojones to properly punish reckless and dangerous play. Kone should not be playing the second leg.
The ball spent much of the game high in the Buckinghamshire sky and our midfielders were just as guilty as the home side of hitting hopeful long balls to outnumbered Godden and TC. Doherty had a bit of a mare with the ball bouncing off him in all directions but forward and he was silly getting the yellow card for a hand on an opponent's throat. The defenders were all excellent and have ticked up another clean sheet. Shout out to the two subs who brought much needed energy and control on the ground when they came on and nearly drove the side towards a two goal advantage, denied by fine goalkeeping.
The Valley beckons and we know it's going to be a different type of game played in a fantastic atmosphere. Can't see Wycombe getting away with the physical stuff a second time although I am sure they will come up with all manner of tricks to make the seconds tick by.
