No doubt about it, it was a difficult watch. If it hadn’t have been Charlton, I would’ve switched off and turned over to watch CountryFile. As we were going into the last few minutes I typed out a post saying we’d get a chance. But decided to delete it as I didn’t want to jinx it. Then Godden had the chance but it wasn’t to be.
In rugby, players can be cited for foul play after the final whistle for incidents that the referee missed. Shame you can’t do that in football otherwise Wycombe would be missing key players for Thursday.
Still all to play for. The players and the supporters need to bring their A game on Thursday. Let’s make it another night to remember.

Yep. Watson naturally sits about 20 yards deeper than Small which meant we wasnt a threat down the right.
I also noticed that our players seem reluctant to pass to Watson. The ball could have gone out wide to watson twice in the first half but both times (once coventry, once doc, i think), both turned back and knocked it back towards the centre back
Anderson not getting enough credit on here imo. Him and Small brought about a better shape and kept us further up the pitch. Docherty started to be more effective too. Solid defending throughout thankfully.

On Sky you could see their tunnel has “Rock n Roll Football” painted on the wall, clearly all a hangover from Ainsworth
A truly horrible game of football Wycombe were fired up and were clearly going to be all over us like a rash. It worked to a degree but they needed to score first half when they were on it and when we got to half time 0-0 I felt comfortable we’d seen off their best.
I don’t think we can absolve ourselves from the dire game of head tennis on display. Constantly clipping balls in the air to their two lamp posts at the back was never going to work and it was only the last 15 mins when we tried to get the ball down and stretch the pitch a little wider that it looked like we would step up a gear from there.
Small and especially Karoy I thought had a real positive impact when they come on, though in Small’s case I think it was the right decision starting with Watson to keep us more defensively compact
In the end, a little disappointed we didn’t nick one second half, though I would have took a draw beforehand. Wycombe clearly struggle with goals lately so now they have a game plan to frustrate and counter on Thursday.
I think both managers just ended up out cancelling out each other’s tactics. Wycombe set up to press and be as horrible to play as we usually are, we sensed that, didn’t invite pressure and danger and just went long. A bit like the Stockport game away.
Got no problem with that, Jones very happy with a goalless draw away I reckon. Will be a different kind of game at home and we will open up a bit more. Small back will be a big plus, Berry didn’t seem fit enough. Defence solid and Watson did his job. Roll on Thursday!

What can be done to turn Tyreece into the player he is capable of becoming. He struggled again today. He is obviously a confidence player. If only we could inject the cocksure self-belief of Lyle Taylor or the presence and resilience of Yann into him.
They did a number on him, cant see it being the same in the 2nd leg.
After seeing the challenge on Ramsey I'm surprised our players didn't make more of a meal of it to the ref. A real cagey game where it was a case of just keep the ball as far away from your own goal as possible from both sides.
I hope and I'm confident we the fans will play our part on Thursday and make it as hostile as possible for Wycombe. I feel we need to score as soon as possible though as they will come here and fight like beavers as kammy would say.

Some appalling behaviour from a few of our supporters tonight.
A few people who found their seats occupied were threatening those in them with violence and hurling abuse at them.
Ridiculously, this was happening at the back of the stadium by people who wanted to sit!
First an old man hobbled to the back of the stand with his grandson supporting him. They found their seats taken and, instead of asking them to move, they IMMEDIATELY began shouting 'C*nts' at them over and over. The people moved, but several others got involved and politely informed them that, if they were sat at the back, they would be standing for 90 minutes. These people were also called c*nts for trying to be helpful.
Subsequently, another old man arrived by himself and found his seat taken by a youngster.
The young guy politely explained that people generally sit where they like at away games, but the old man was adamant that he wanted his seat. The youngster moved for him, but the old man still kept kicking off and was threatening to beat the young supporter up for having dared to sit in his seat in the first place.
The youngster quipped back asking the old man if it was the first away game of his life. Ridiculously, the old man responded with 'Actually, it's the second away game I have been to! Wrexham the other week was the first away game I ever went to!'
He didn't seem to realise that he was proving the youngster's point as, when others also asked if he would be fine standing for 90 minutes, he proudly boasted that this was his third game all season (he also went to Burton at home) and that he used to be a season ticket holder when we were in the Premier League, so he knows what it's like. It was reiterated that everybody in front of him would be standing, but he kept going on about how many seasons he had watched us at home in the Premier League, so he knew best.
Queue kick-off and the pair of old men began kicking off, yelling at those around then to sit down and be respectful, since they had paid for tickets and deserved to be able to watch the match just like the rest of us.
It was pointed out to them by those in front that, if they sat down, they wouldn't be able to see as the people in front of them would be stood up and so on as almost everybody was standing.
They complained to the stewards to try and get everybody to sit, but the stewards had witnessed their earlier altercations and reminded them that they had been told to sit at the front if they wanted to sit down as neither allocated seating or seating itself was being enforced.
The old man who was alone was a nightmare for the rest of the match. As well as constantly whining about having to stand, he was complaining that Charlton fans were singing and the drummer was drumming!
Instead of accepting responsibility, he directed his anger at the youngster who was originally in his seat, constantly threatening to beat him up once they were out the ground.
It was already a rather dull game, especially the first half, but having to endure 90 minutes of whining on top, made it an evening worse experience.
It's came up many times before about how Valley Gold is overvalued and supporters who actually attend matches miss out over those that don't go. But seeing a guy who has been to three games in the past 18 years attending a sold out away end tonight really takes the biscuit.
How the hell do people like this get enough loyalty points to get tickets?

A few people have already said this, but Karoy was superb when he came on. Starting with when launched himself at a header he had no right to win that nearly knocked him out! He brought energy in to a non functioning midfield and showed a few moments of real class with some lovely touches and passes.
He blows hot and cold but when playing well he's a superb asset in our midfield.
If he were to find some consistency he'd play at Championship level for a long time I think.

100% this. Imagine on 65 minutes, second leg so the legs are a bit sore prematurely and Karoy and Chuks enter the fray. Would be incredibly disheartening for a tired Wycombe midfield

Agreed, we can hardly complain about the primitive Wycombe football, when for most of the game we were doing exactly the same.
Seems to me that Karoy is often very good when he comes on as a sub, but less impactful when he starts - and it isn't a matter of energy, he's got a good engine. Not sure if it's psychological but it would be nice if he could play that well when he starts.
Looking at the Wycombe message board, I think it's quite telling that they thought the referee was good in complete contrast to the views here.
They also seem to think that our post Xmas good form and large crowd will work against us which kind of defies logic. I do think some players (e.g. Coventry) suffered from nerves in the 1st half last night but I also think our coaching team will make sure that is long gone come Thursday.
I think we need to be careful ahead of Thursday. The crowd is definitely going to work in our favour, so if I was Dodds I'd get them to put similar pressure on us from the off, and try to shut the crowd up - At least that's what I'd do.
Last night summed up league one, whoever came up with the phrase ‘The beautiful game’ needs shooting!
Summed up the officiating standard as well. How they did not have two sending offs is beyond me. I know he got a yellow but Kone's was a red every day of the week. It can still be reviewed if a clear refereeing error which it was. Ref was terrible even for League One.
We've got to match them physically but essential that we do so without losing our heads. We certainly don't want any red cards on the night but I also guess that two yellows over the two legs means players miss the final - puts Doc at risk.
