I've got to be honest, I'm not usually a fan of the match preview threads. Aside from the opening posts which are invariably excellent, there's a tendency for the discussions themselves to quickly descend into a seemingly endless round of personal predictions, betting odds and petty prejudices about players who may, or may not, get picked.
This one's different though. This one's special. As well as FA's magnificent opening, the quality of posting has been sky high; nearly everyone has pulled out all the stops to give us their best insights, displaying considerable knowledge and footballing nous in the process. There have been several posts so careful and comprehensive in their analysis that they would make make good opening match previews themselves. I can't imagine many club forums being able to produce a match preview thread of such quality. Charlton Life at its absolute best.
Bearing all that in mind, here is my own carefully considered contribution: 1-1 at full time, 3-1 to Charlton AET.11 -
Don’t think this will be a pretty game. Orient have the ability to play nice stuff but NJ will want to turn this into a physical battle as we have stronger, fitter and bigger players. Orient will need to go into the last 15 mins at least 1/2 up if they are to win. Our CBs should get some chances from set pieces if our delivery is good enough and the idea of REG having to deal with either TC or Godden and then Aneke gives me some confidence.
Orient do have pace, notably Agyei but he tends to play on the right where we are defensively solid.
I’m slightly worried about our CBs giving away a penalty at a set piece. They aren’t as blatant as Beckles have been but they do love a wrestle. Gillesphey used to do this all over the pitch but part of his upturn in form has come from him going for the ball and not the man.
I think we’ll just about have too much for them but if we score it will either be in the first or last 15 mins. The 60 in between could be incredibly painful to watch.5 -

For brevity I would say that the danger from Leyton Orient is they play good progressive football in an effective style and have forwards, including Kelman of course, who can hurt you. They must not be underestimated.
However a feature of our play this season is we usually finish games stronger than our opponents, so if we can keep Leyton Orient out we might be much stronger at the finish.
Possibly the two factors that will be significant are the known long throws from Edwards, and the unknown (for us) impact of the VAR system.5 -

The 2019 match wasn't pretty either. Apart from the goals there wasn't too much goal mouth action. Phillip's saved one early on (finger-tip save round the post) and Lyle Taylor had a dipping volley yards over the bar. If Bauer hadn't had scored when he did & it went into extra time (and probably pens) it wouldn't be seen the way it is now.
1998 was obviously much different. Goals a plenty, the lead changing hands, goals in extra time etc etc - but football much much different then. That game was on Sky a few days ago & I showed my son the first 15/20 mins. No passing around the back & certainly no goal keeper giving the ball to a defender from a goal kick. The ball was played quicker & with more purpose. Played today & there would be no hat trick hero.4 -

I am getting more and more nervous as the day approaches. We've never been favourites in our 3 wins. Orient really have nothing to lose. So many of our fans seems to think we only need to lace our boots to win. Bringing my daughter and brother in law.

When we lost to Crawley at home, I really thought that Jones was taking us downwards. Not to relegation but bottom half obscuridity and ugly, hoofball at the same time.
I worried for our future. Leaburn would go, Jones would go, Small wouldn't stay, we'd sell TC too and that next year would be horrendous and I couldn't see what on earth we could do to get out of this mess with CM and AS still around.
Well, kiss me with a badger - the turnaround has been nothing short of miraculous. AS went, CM has gone, Jones re-signed and we went on a most impressive run and only through sheer exhaustion and injuries did we succumb to Wrexham and miss out on automatic promotion, which seemed almost unthinkable that cold lonely night walking away from the Valley towards the end of 2024.
To the players, the manager and the owners, I salute you. You truly do appear to be giving us our Charlton back. 39,000+ tickets for Wembley sold almost as quickly as was humanly possible. There is a fanbase out there desperate to see us climbing back up the Divisions. United. As one.
The football at times is not pretty, it's not expansive and we sometimes look like we have run out of ideas. Not The Top 20 podcast say that our crowd versus Sunderland is the loudest set of fans they have ever heard in all the play off finals they have attended and reported upon.
Well, let's go one better. Let's be louder and for longer. Support the players, the manager, the club and I believe destiny will take care of the rest. It's not going to be pretty, but I am desperate for TC to show he can become a big game player and he scores the only goal of the game until Matty Godden scores on the counter attack in the 89th minute.

On Saturday afternoon my wife and I are going to see the new Tom Cruise film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
I've not seen a trailer or read anything about it but I think the story starts in early December last year with Tom Cruise revealing that his Ethan Hunt character is actually the alter ego of a manic Welshman called Jones. The film then charts the struggles to see his team through to the desired conclusion culminating in the "Final Reckoning" at Wembley.
The film co-stars Ving Rhames as Curtis Fleming, Hayley Attwell as Tracey Leaburn and Simon Pegg as Matty Godden. The running time is almost three hours which makes me wonder whether that's including extra-time and possibly penalties.

this is my first post apart from saying i will wear the 1947 cup final shirt. my father took me first time to the valley in 1953 and since then i have experienced the highs and lows of followingthe addicks and you know some of the lows have been accute in the last few years . I saw the 7-6 huddersfield game but also cried all the way home when we lost 4-3 to blackburn in 57 i think it was, only needing a draw to go straight back to league 1 as it was then. Im very nervous about sunday but that comes from seasons of disappointment , what I will say is I think that what the manager has brought is hope , hope for a brighter tomorrow irrespective of sundays result for the club /team/supporters. Play offs area lottery , a slip a missed chance an off day and its done . I will continue to follow the reds robins addicks whahtever, whilst there is still breath in me . Really really hope and pray for our win ., none of this " I just want to enjoy the day. I want us to win " for all our sakes60

One of the coolest defenders i have seen playing for us. In fact the only defensive risk i think we have (and it's not a big one imo) is when our keeper comes out and mis-positions himself for a back pass. Yeh he's great from what I've seen of him.
Not in direct reference to him as a player at all, just that he's on the back line.
The Dillon Phillips and (forgotton his name) og at wembley 6 years ago was possibly one of the most shocking Charlton moments to witness.
The rest of the match at least made it more forgettable, but still.
