Getting to Wembley, travel tips

  • Looking for some advice, living abroad and haven't been to Wembley for a few years now:

I might have to race to get to Stansted Airport after the game, especially if it goes to extra time. Public transport would be Metropolitan to Liverpool St and then Stansted Express.

Alternatively, getting a cab: how far by foot would I need to get away from Wembley Stadium to get a cab at short notice without it getting stuck in traffic? Alternative would of course be taking Met/Jubilee away from London and then a cab, but I reckon that would eat up more time.

    Thanks!

No!! Just get a cab to Spray street. Liz line to Farringdon and change on the Met Line. Jobs a good un.
    Where's Spray Street? Woolwich?
I think you had a thread on where to get dropped off in Woolwich for the Elizabeth Line? And you chose Spray street if i remember.

Tho as it is a Sunday Spray street is a bit of a nightmare due to free parking and the churches so get out on Vincent Road and walk a little further.

I think there are four trains an hour going from Blackheath up to London on Sunday.
2 out of 4 you need to change at Lewisham.
Does that mean two of them go to Victoria?

I would also normally if on the jubilee line change onto the met line by crossing the platform at Finchley Rd
That’s the one, sheeple always talk about changing at Baker St but those in the know change at Finchley Road.
Why swap to the MetLine at all ?

    is it just quicker?
Yeah the Met misses out a lot of weird stops for places that no-one has ever heard of that the Jubilee stops at (where the fuck is Dollis Hill?)
  • Just remember that the tubes and trains to Wembley are likely to be rammed, so don't assumed you'll be able to jump on the first one.
  • I'll be travelling up to town by train - then tube to Wembley. For the first time with a wheelchair user in among our group.

I'm expecting the path of least resistance will be to get off at London Bridge - then Jubille to Wembley park. I think that's served by lifts all the way and very easy. Anyone able to confirm it'll be a straightforward journey?

I'll drive to Abbey Wood from Strood, get the Liz Line to Farringdon and then up to Wembley Park

Be far cheaper than using South Eastern for the first leg of the journey... Aiming to get to Wembley around 11:30am

Thinking of doing the same with my son, but from Canterbury. Should be a similar time frame but much, much cheaper. A return ticket from Canterbury West to Wembley, taking 2 hours with 2 changes, £53.40 each. A bit cheaper if you have more changes and taking much longer.

You'll need to ask for a ramp at Wembley Park as there isn't a level platform from the Jubilee Line trains there.

If you've not parked around Abbey Wood for the Station (Hopefully be quieter as will be a Sunday), but I find along Alsike Road a really good option whenever I go up that way to get the train into London. Ridiculous really as its cheaper to do that than pay the £31 for the High Speed.

We are staying in Bexleyheath, TFL planner is suggesting Superloop 3 to Abbey Wood, LIzzy Line to Farringdon, walk to Barbican and the the Metropolitan to Wemberlee Park. Don't get why they are suggesting walk to Barbican?

    Yes
  • 40mins in an Uber for me, which is half the time it would take to go into London and back out.

I don't see why TFL is suggesting the walk to Barbican (As its done the same for me)? - You can get the Met Line from Farringdon.

Did just see this on one website, RE: the connection from the Liz to Met Line at Farringdon.

If changing from the Elizabeth line to Circle/Hammersmith & City/Metropolitan at Farringdon , you may find it quicker to follow signs to National Rail (Thameslink) platform 4 instead, then walk along that platform to the footbridge at the end of the platform which will take you directly to the Tube. There are also Oyster readers near the footbridge if you need to touch in/out. This can avoid you having to exit the station and then re-enter it from across the road.

When on Liz line, go to Farringdon and get the met line. Always surprised how much quicker met is than jubilee line.
this is the best way I reckon, Liz line runs every 10 mins - change at Farringdon and jump on Met line.

@PragueAddick get dropped to either Abbey Wood or Woolwich, much quicker than North Greenwich

How far is it from getting off a Lizzy Line train to getting on a Met Line train though? You have to walk so far at most stations to get to the Elizabeth Line platforms that you may as well have just walked to Wembley!
2 minute walk From front of train, up escalator, through ticket barrier, cross road enter Farringdon [Thameslink/Tube] & go down stairs onto North/Westbound platform for [Circle, H&C & Met lines].
You don't even need to do this. If you cross to the southbound thameslink platform you can access the north/westbound tube platform from there.

Can't help with your second point but just bear in mind that actually getting in to the underground station at Wembley after the game is likely to take ages

Driving up to  Bexley village,(project Brock in place)Parking, then  collecting son 1, being driven by his wife to Bexleyheath station, hoping to go to Victoria , meet son 2 who is coming from a wedding at Sittingbourne, then tube to Wembley Park. I think it will be at least a 15 minute walk to  have a drink, and meet the rest of the party, ( or is it longer) apparently they have reservations/booking. then on to Wembley. Leaving at 7.45 in Hythe , God knows why the M20 has operation Brock on!, who goes to on a Sunday to France for a couple of days!. Sitting up in the "Gods" , but at least there . Come on you reds!

That’s what I was wondering. Is it quicker changing.
im thinking to stay on the Jubilee as it will be manic. Once on the train I don’t want to try and squeeze on another when so close to the ground

Might save yourself 10 mins....but like you say not worth it if you have a seat on the Jubilee train. Worth checking out CX to Wembley Central....a tad slower (more stops) but might not be as busy and certainly less Orient fans that way. Also going to Wembley Central is handy for 'our' end of the ground and for 'our' allocated pubs.

  • We was doing Lizzie Line (change at Farringdon) and Met Line to Wembley Park.

But now carrying on to Paddington and changing to Bakerloo for Wembley Central  (shorter walk to JJ Moons).

    Noted - thank you!
  • 0800 train from Southampton to Waterloo getting in just after 10am. Then Jubilee or Metro line to Wembley then off to the Green Man as the weather is looking a little better!
I'd hazard a guess and say that by 11am the Green Man will be full and stop letting people in.
  • depends where your planning to go, straight to ground or going for a drink around Wembley first ?

Eltham Addicks get the train to London Bridge and the Jubilee to Wembley (just under an hour total duration). What’s all this nonsense about driving to North Greenwich?
Agree totally. Why are you messing about going to North Greenwich? Bexleyheath Line is fully operational Sunday. Get a south-eastern train from Eltham to London Bridge and then Jubilee Line to Wembley.

Alternatively, stay on the same south eastern train until Charing Cross, Bakerloo line to Baker Street area for food and drink stop and then fast, frequent Chiltern Line train from Marylebone to Wembley.
Because when I asked for time comparison on the web, with the starting point Eltham and NG, it gave NG as the clear winner. Then when I fed in the 3rd option of Liz line from Woolwich it said that was comparable to NG/Jubilee, but Eltham still wasn't getting a look in.

Thing is too, as @guinnessaddick says, 2/4 mean a change at Lewisham. We did this in 2019. The Loop line train that came in, was absolutely rammed. Since my sister is offering to drop us at any of these three places (her gaff is about 12 mins walk from Eltham station and I'm still walking a bit slower than usual) it's not really messing around.

When it comes to the Met line we did that switch in 2019 and I seem to recall it was nice. We got seats. Can't recall if we got on at Finchley Road tho' might have been Baker Street.

But isn’t your starting point Eltham? Obviously if you start at NG then it’s going to be quicker to start at NG than Eltham!

If you’re starting in Eltham (assuming somewhere relatively close to the station) then I don’t really know why you would travel to North Greenwich when you could spend the same amount of time travelling to London Bridge and be further up the Jubilee line in the direction of Wembley.
That's possibly true. I'll go back and give it the exact address and set time, and  see what it says. But if it involves a change at Lewisham we'd probably opt for one of the other two.
  • FWIW I’m going via Eltham, just less faff
