Can understand why it’s grating. To put into perspective though, looking at more expensive seats it’s a £90 increase. The average gas bill is going up £120 per year for the same product.

Wouldn’t be buying a season ticket anyway, but my 14 year old has said he wants to go some more games next season (yesterday was only his second game) so the season ticket price will obviously affect the match day price to protect the value of the season ticket. My 12 year old is West Ham so he can do one , so I can save money on him though.3

Sorry chaps will try a house buying analogy next time! Basically the point I was trying to make is that no ever wants to pay more but lots of things go up in price that we have to suck up.
I don’t think what works out as the price of a pint once a month will put people off if they really want a season ticket.Matchday tickets will go up too so the ‘saving’ will likely be similar.
I’ll shut up now and moan about it at next year’s renewal!1 -
But, how much value do you assign to the ticket priority that a season ticket gives you?0

If the club really wants to get some momentum and start to generate revenue (which because of financial rule changes are likely to be more critical in the coming seasons than in previous seasons) they are going the wrong way about it.3 -
Issue I have is I sit in north and west as depends on which of my mates are going as they have season tickets in different areas so I’ll most likely continue to buy on a match by match basis, away games with the exception of Millwall, qpr and Oxford should be quite easy to get tickets.0

With midweek games and things like dates moved for TV, you only have to miss 4 games and you might aswell have not bothered. After yesterday’s day out id love to commit, but it just doesnt make financial sense for me to do so. Cant wait for the fixture list to come out though and get some dates in the diary.

Yes the prices have gone up, but so has the product.
We had @40,000 fans at Wembley and possibly could have sold 45,000+.
I read a number of times that no Charlton fans are better fans than other fans and it makes no difference how often you turn up to support your team.
Let's not forget every fan could have bought at the cheaper prices but chose not to.
So let's hope a decent percentage of the 30,000+ non season ticket holders really do want to help drive the club forwards.
We've got to try and compete with parachute payments for Southampton, Ipswich & Leicester.
Plus clubs such as Sheff U, WBA, Sheff W, Stoke, Derby and the rest!10 -
Do we focus too much on season tickets?
There were 30000 fans there yesterday if you could get them coming to half a dozen games each the attendance would boost alot.

we all want the ground to be as full as possible and of course, lower prices help that but personally, if we are being charged the going rate and it helps in some way to assembling a better team, i'm happy - people waste a lot of money on all sorts of chuff so id be surprised if an extra £50 or whatever is really gonna put that many people off - we can't keep thinking we can do things on the cheap - i firmly believe the 'product' is more important to our fanbase than the price14

Sheff U, WBA, Sheff W, Stoke, Derby and the rest!At Charlton you will always get in to a home league game if you want to - we don’t and won’t sell out yet. Therefore the season ticket needs to offer some significant financial value (particularly for new holders) over and above purchasing game by game. Even more so because if you are not 100% committed you will miss some games through other things - holiday, sickness, family commitments etc.
Also as others have highlighted we can expect fewer Saturday 3pm matches. The downside to ‘ newbie's’ remains cost of alternative entertainment options and Sky / streaming options.Pricing people out of a significant upfront spend is the wrong choice. If you got people buying thus week off the back of yesterday you’ve guaranteed a better atmosphere with more people in the ground. You’ve now given them a reason not to bother.4 -
I sometimes wonder if Methven actually left?1

Southendaddick said:I get the reasons why as they wouldn’t sell but would be great if they did a Saturday season ticket
Tuesday nights with a 10 year old not going to bed till 11 or later and up for school the next day are a bit of an issue so have mainly watched on sky sports plus
And where I’ve always sat in the AC stand £695 is a bit of a chore when I know ill miss at least 5/6 games
To be honest £695 is a bit of a chore anyway although I get that’s a choice and not the only option
I just need to be on the ball when the tickets come out to make sure I get the seats I want as Leicester at home might be trickier than Crawley
I would definitely buy a Saturday season ticket, but I think it's too difficult for the club to judge the pricing of that as games often get moved from Saturday to midweek during the season due to cup runs, international call ups, postponements etc.0 -

All those moaning about the price increase, why didn't you buy one before yesterday? Are you that fair-weather?6

They already do a half season ticket in Winter. What about a ticket for certain number of matches, perhaps 10 over the season paid up front. It would suit me as I'm 3 hours away from the Valley, so can't justify a season ticket as I will miss more games than I will attend.I'll likely buy singles next year, mainly on a Saturday but with half day holiday might grab a mid week game or two under the ( hopefully new LED) floodlights1

Yes the Zone 3 prices are very competitive, but that's 4000-5000 max, so less than a quarter of the home sections of the ground, and it's Zone 2 which has gone up the most. My Zone 1 price in L1 was poor value, I accept it because I don't want to change my seat of 31 years, but that reason doesn't apply to new ST ticket holders.0 -

Because the majority of the people moaning are people who either have no intention of buying one regardless of price, and just love to have a moan, or are people who have hung on and hung on and are only now thinking of getting a season ticket because we're in the Championship, and are now moaning because it's more expensive than it was last week.
If it's gone up, it's gone up, it was obvious it was going to happen, every season they go on sale at one price, then that price gets increased after a period of time. There has been plenty of time to save up and buy a season ticket at the lower price, they've been on sale for a while now.3 -
I tend to spread my ST across is payments. I forgot to renew early on but now it’s £375. But I don’t mind because when you break that down to 10 months which is pretty much a season that’s £37.5 a month which is nothing. Probably one match ticket a month! And only a £5pm increase for better quality football.4

Hope this thread hasntturned into a my support is better than you argument the day after such a great day
We should be trying to fill the ground in the best way by whatever means
Lots of people don’t have season tickets but are still fanatics of this club home and away
Me and many others are in a difficult position of not being local can’t do certain games and want to sit in seats that are expensive and probably still available to buy quite easily we haven’t made it yet so it’s just easier to pay per game
Nothing wrong with that I’m actually genuinely torn on getting 3 tickets just for the security and the priority for away games

Well the good news is, if you want a season ticket and are worried they'll sell, there's no rush, cause we won't sell more than 13k based on those prices, and that would be good going.
As for the argument of funding a better team. An increase of let's say £80 average per season ticket works out to 800k, being very generous here as that's 10k season tickets and most people would have bought early birds. Divide that by 52 so a players yearly salary and you're looking at a player for 15k a week, a lower average than most clubs top earner, and that's just one player, or, an £800k to £1 million transfer fee on a player.
Fleecing fans for an extra 50-100 quid on a season ticket is not going to make us a competitive championship side. It takes a lot more than that.
I also don't think there's much incentive here for loyalty points as most grounds will give big enough allocations, so the loyalty points won't be as meaningful, I can only see Millwall and QPR being the games that will be difficult to get tickets for, be plenty of tickets for the likes of Blackburn, Preston, Boro, Sheffield clubs, West Brom etc.
I think this is an own goal, and a bit short sighted.7
