The US soccer federation will be under a lot of pressure if things don't improve. Apparently a big chunk of Poch's wages are being paid by sponsors who were drafted in as they all wanted a big name to bring more domestic attention before hosting the tournament.2

I was trying to work out why the World Cup is now hosted across multiple countries, and it looks like the expansion of the tournament is the likely reason. 48 teams will compete, 16 more than in 2022. I expect the increased costs would make a single country want to spread the risk. There must come a point where we reach maximum teams. 48 does seem an awful lot. The logistics of 3 countries must be a nightmare.2

Depends on what you mean by worldwide I guess. In terms of sheer numbers someone like Kohli might be able to come close but largely concentrated in one (massive) countryChris_from_Sidcup said:

Yes there will players who are considered more famous in certain countries like the examples given above (Ohtani in Japan, Kohli in India) and probably Lebron James in the US, but overall worldwide it will clearly be Messi and Ronaldo.1 -

Slovakia 2-0 Germany is only the second time Germany have lost a World Cup qualifier by more than one goal - the other was in the 5-1 defeat to England in September 2001.

Off Topic, but another crazy stat is that prior to Spain's loss to Sweden in September 2021, their previous defeat in a World Cup qualifier was way back in March 1993 (1-0 away to Denmark).Callumcafc said:

Overnight Messi played his last ever home qualifier for Argentina (and maybe his last home game ever) as he is retiring from international football after the world cup. They beat Venezuela 3-0 and obviously he scored twice.2

We're now up to 16 countries definitely qualified for the finals after Uruguay, Colombia and Paraguay all sealed top 6 places in their qualifier with a game to go. Still just the two qualifiers who have never played at a finals before, Jordan and Uzbekistan. Paraguay hadn't qualified since 2010.

Watching the Denmark v Scotland match. That stadium in Copenhagen is so bland yet so distinctive. It has no remarkable features yet you’d recognise it immediately.0

Disagree. The Parken has 4 separate stands and how many grounds have a stand with 5 (five) rows of boxes?
