For a club that’s getting a relative windfall in the form of the TV money uplift on the back of effectively inconveniencing it’s fanbase by agreeing to only play around 8 or 9 games at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, they should look to giving some of it back. One way would be to give every ST holder a 50% discount on the new shirt for the coming season. They should still make money on each shirt and they’d probably sell a lot more, which in turn could encourage others who might not normally buy one if they start seeing a lot more red shirts all around the ground on match days.

Despite getting more tv money, the club increased prices for what effectively is likely to be less games at 3pm on a Saturday and more games at a time that will less convenient to travel to and get home from. If we are not to repeat the wasted opportunity of the last two promotions we really do need to encourage fans to come along more regularly. If it’s too late to reverse the price hikes then giving something back, which might actually generate more money ultimately seems a logical place to start.

In my innocence I had always assumed that people who bought season tickets and traveled the country going to away games did that because they wanted to. I’m only just finding out that it’s actually an enormous act of sacrifice and self denial, so I will be more respectful in future.

I don’t go to the early rounds any more because they are treated like reserve matches and I wont attend the pisstake papa johns or whatever - im fairweather when it comes to the cup for those reasons - never used to be

I don't have to get online, choose a seat (maybe one I don't want), pay for it and print it every game. I just walk straight in.
Over the years, I've gradually got to know those that sit around me, they're the same every game, we only discuss Charlton and other football matters, but they're "like minded". At the end of the game, I say "bye, sorry must rush, train to catch". I wouldn't have this if I bought a ticket for each game separately.
One other thing, all the moaning about season ticket prices going up. If you'd bought a ticket when they were first offered, and from what I can see the zone 2 ones (the ones being mainly moaned about) were available for £485 and as your saying they're now £550 and that's a price increase of £90 so they must have been £460 last year, so your price increase would have been only £25. (£485 - £460)

Well my scepticism leads me to think the Community Trust 500 tickets plus all the other designated tickets for comps and freebies are being included in that to make the 10k headline number. I’m sure the language will change once we do actually sell over the 10k number.

I don’t know about CACT tickets but it’s highly likely the players, staff and match officials are in the total and have been for a number of years. Quite possibly the press, too.

The issue in this case isn’t Ronnie, it’s the idea that a business deserves an arbitrary, unevidenced amount of sales. Relative to what?
Half a century ago the club published an article claiming that crowds were a disgrace for a borough the size of Greenwich, which showed a staggering lack of awareness of both its own performance over the previous 20 years and where its supporters lived.
The reality is that the public owes the club nothing. It is up to the club to make its offer attractive. People who aren’t buying STs will in some cases not do so because they are not as committed as those who do. There is no moral appeal to them that makes any sense. It’s up to the club to persuade them.
We do need to understand that whether you are a supporter or not is not a binary condition. It’s a spectrum and what motivates people at one end isn’t the same as what motivates others, and even if it was people have different obstacles to overcome - time, distance, money etc.

I appreciate that no-one pays at the turnstiles now, I was just saying that was just one of my original reasons for getting a season ticket. But plenty still buy on the day, I have to avoid the big queue at the ticket office every match. But I also don't have to remember to buy and print my ticket in advance before every game either.
