I can honestly say that having been all round the world, in all sorts of places for many years, there is nothing like Europe - there are some impressive things around the world but nothing tops what we have here and anything they build elsewhere is definitely a second rate version of what we have here.
In terms of culture on your doorstep, absolutely.
Whenever I go to the USA, I always come back thinking that the quality of life there is so much higher than everywhere else. I could earn twice as much working out there, and a good sized house (in Texas for example) is far more attainable.
I agree with you to a certain extent. Lots of things are more expensive. However after any more than a week in the US, I come to the conclusion that there are too many Americans for me to put up with - I couldn't deal with them all the time!
Flying home this afternoon from a lovely 3 days in nice, we have an apartment here but as mother in law and her friend were over we got a small hotel in the centre, really nice and toasty without the crowds as next weekend is when tourist season really boots off am back out here for a week end of July.

But I climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which was one of the best experiences I have ever had.

The bridge climb is awesome - took me five minutes to stop cracking myself though and I am not even afraid of heights. Think it was stepping out on the first bit on a hot balmy day but still getting hit by big gusts of wind.

So what is the best holiday destination you have visited?
Real stand out, life time memory type thing (off the beaten track). I am thinking Philippines as since I was 21 and stupidly passed up the opportunity in Australia I have always wanted to swim with a whale shark. But an alternative maybe walking the whale trail or otter trail in South Africa; or a trip to see polar bears in Alaska.
I don't really enjoy the more traditional sitting by a pool/beach holidays; and have lived in Oz and NZ, and travelled extensively in South East Asia, and USA.
I was in Chile earlier this year. Santiago is a very nice and safe city. Very modern architecture and nice bars. Wished I had booked to stay longer. Only there for a couple of days (was there when Chile had a power cut) but also enjoyed 4 days on Easter Island…again recommend.
Anybody been to see the Veiled Christ in Naples? Will be coming from Sorrento via ferry, but the journey from the port to the church looks awkward. ( Walk Bus Walk) any advice or better suggestions gratefully accepted

Not sure if Andy still owns the place in Belize but he’s now living in the Netherlands and working at AZ Alkmaar.
We went to Andy's place a couple of times - fantastic. Last I heard they were aiming to offload it, mean time it was available as a room-only option possibly.
Belize is brilliant, lots to do, varied.
Thanks, will look into Belize a little more. Shame Andy Hunt is no longer there. I did look 15yrs ago and one of the issues was no direct flights meaning it was a 30 hour trip each way or something daft Hopefully easier now!
