You can't restrict free speech for British people and allow others to say what they want. Anybody with a brain knows that aint gonna work
Who are the "others"? Who is doing the restricting?
Having a hard time understanding what you are trying to say. Got a link to some kind of incident?
Do you really want me to post incidents or are you just wanting a silly argument? There are plenty of examples of two tier policing going on. Look how quickly some people get arrested and jailed in some circumstances eg Southport.
Who are the non-British "others" who are, I have to assume, not being restricted in their speech by UK authorities as Brits are?
Whatever you are trying to raise seems to have a specific incident in mind... so... am trying to get you to spell it for those of us who are unaware?
You are just acting dumb to try and make me say something you want me to say i guess? Are you unaware of two tier policing?

That isn't what was said. Try this:

There's usually a good and bad side to everything but people should be able to voice their opinion.
I know there are Internet trolls and there are people who just want to cause harm.
It's just strange these days how relatively normal people get arrested based on what they write on the Internet.
Let's agree to disagree....
Actions speak louder than words....
Can you show me an actual case where someone has been arrested for writing something on the Internet that wasn't actually committing a crime such as hate speech or inciting violence?
It's not expressing controversial opinions that gets people arrested (as much as the media might lead you to thay conclusion) it's using those opinions to direct hate at or incite violence towards actual people

It would be handy to give examples to support any view.
i can’t see this making the second page
Well an example would be Palestine Action. Able to say what they want under freedom of speech and now they are banned and classed as terrorists
You’re wilfully distorting what’s happened in that situation.
I'm not. It was allowed under freedom of speech and now it should be stopped if they are classed as terrorists. It won't happen tho
Wasn't it because of vandalism? Specifically, breaking into an airbase and damaging some aircraft? Not exactly as bad as what they are campaigning against granted, but not saying the wrong thing either.

Quite. Protest what you want, but attacking this country’s means to defend itself during this time of heightened threats in this world is more than crossing a line. Weren’t Palestine action behind attacking a Jewish business a month or two ago? Smashing the place up reminiscent of a very dark time in history.
Leaving out some very important context here, they smashed and defaced the front of a shop registered as landlords of Instro Precision, a producer of Israeli weapons. As someone whose Jewish family were forced out of their shop and their home on Kristallnacht, comparing the two events is rather distasteful and not at all accurate.
I'm a massive believer in free speech. It should separate us from dictatorships.
Hate speech is a different thing
I think what's going back and forth is speech is free until the wrong person doesn't like it, twitter is a swirling abyss of people second guessing, guessing and then a lot of hop, skips and jumps.
Some people get put in prison for exposing truths, some people don't, especially if they are a councillor in the greater London area.
I don't like what a fair chunk of prominent speakers in the media have to say, I'm glad they can say it thoigh and I dont have to agree with it, like it or even listen to it, thats a good system and that system should be protected. The less the government interferes in lives the better.
Edward Snowden, Tommy Robinson, Julian Assange all have been jailed for non-violent offences in high category prisons and whatever i personally think of them I do not agree with them being jailed for speaking about things politicians don't like

Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, "Tommy Robinson", was jailed for contempt of court. He lost a defamation claim brought against him by Jamal Hijazi. Jamal was a Syrian refugee, and at 15, a video went viral of him being dragged about on the playing field at school and being essentially waterboarded. "Tommy" then decided to lie, saying that Jamal was a bully, and accusing him of assaulting a young girl and threatening to stab another. Absolutely none of it was true, so "Tommy" lost and had to pay damages and legal costs, and he also had to sign something stopping him from making the false allegations again. But he then republished the videos of the false allegations, and so he breached the injunction.
None of that is "speaking about things politicians don't like", he's just making shit up about a kid for being foreign.
Thats not how I understand it but we will start arguing getting into the weeds and i dont suppose either of us can be bothered with that. I could well be wrong and so could you. My point was regarding him as well as the other two is I think people have done worse things and were not sent to prison, Huw Edwards off the top of my head as one. Maybe the ones who don't seem to get punished have better briefs or maybe telling truths, and for the sake of an argument I'm talking about Assange and Snowden here, upset people who dont like being upset or shown up. Assange is someone I really dont like the feel of however I equally don't like how he is being treated or Snowden

Neither Assange nor Snowden were actually charged with crimes relating to Free speech though. The charges were specifically related to what the information was and exactly how they obtained it, and the rules in question weren't retroactively altered to give them something to be charged with either.
If you want to argue they were charged specifically as some sort of revenge plot then you can, but legally speaking they were charged with crimes that they did actually commit as far as I can tell.

Well, I'm reading from the court ruling init. He can spin whatever "silenced and oppressed" rubbish he wants, he's a vile man, he broke the law, he went prison boo-hoo. Whataboutism about other people who have avoided jail doesn't really progress our conversation on free speech. I like free speech, people can say what they like, but they shouldn't be able to lie and spread hate.

Some people (very small percentage) said that they thought Roland was a good owner.
It was an opinion that rustled some feathers and it was hard to understand, but it was still an opinion that they had - and should have every right to express it.
People should be able to say what they think and what they feel.
On the topic of hate speech, I don't really know enough about that. I'm guessing it's in reference to cult leaders or people who have a high influence over others.
I don't have twitter and can't say I care all that much.
Yet you start a thread and don't care
I do care about it. I just don't have an account for that platform. Why? I don't want one.
I wanted to read the HOC group on here. There are smart articulate people on this forum and it's a shame they can't use this platform to express beliefs on certain subject matters.

He asks for money for his court case maintaining he's innocent and that thee powers that be are against him and he can't defend himself without help. Then pleads guilty. Very concerning how effective his grift is.

I think it progresses the conversation in so much as 3 people went to prison for something I don't think warrants a prison sentence and one didn't go to prison for something I very much think does deserve a prison sentence. All subjective I suppose
I'm not on any of their side especially not Huw Edwards. He didn't release things that powerful people didn't like though just downloaded indecent images of children. He didn't go to prison, the other 3 did.
I accept the 3 people I've mentioned are extreme examples however I think they were targeted to be put in prison one way or another.

Again they didn't go to prison (just) for saying things that people didn't like or for sharing information embarrassed people.
Snowden and Assange went to prison because the information they obtained and shared was classified which by definition means it was not normally what would be considered "free speech" anyway and the means by which they got it/distributed it was illegal in its own right.
Yaxley-Lennon was jailed for breaching a court order and again what he had initially said had already been found illegal the first time he said it.
Did they upset the "wrong" people, maybe so. But I don't think it's quite right or fair to hold them up as champions of free speech being held down by The Establishment.

Pretty sure Robinson has several books out, I wonder if they say what he wants to say, or just full of him saying "this goes without saying". ill never know because I've no interest in his opinion

They need to find a way on social media platforms to find an equivalence to good old fashioned pub free speech.
Say what you want - but every now and again you might get a smack in the mouth for what you said.
Come on Zuck and Elon etc. you are smart guys. You can do it.
