I can't see why they cannot pre-pour 100 pints before the first 45 are up? They know they're going to be sold.

This system works unbelievably well at the Ally Pally for the darts.
weirdly the NU bar towards the West stand pulls loads of half pints and then tops them up when you order, totally pointless - as you say, just have 150+ pints ready to go
They go too flat too quickly I think. The solution is to get those fast filling from the bottom taps they have at Spurs but they must cost a pretty penny
Most football fans who like a drink at a ground are quantity drinkers, not quality drinkers
    Doesn't stop them moaning!
The time in waiting not quality of the amber nectar

Definitely heard both on the concourses, often linked to one another. "Can't believe we have to wait this long and it's flat" etc

If you want a pint, go down the pub

If you want to watch football, go to a game.
Need not be mutually exclusive, and you can manage it at any other sports event.
Problem is it's not just during the 15 min half time. People leave their seats after 40 mins and get back to their seats well after the 2nd half has started......usually at least 5 mins into it & sometimes as much as 10.

As well as a safe standing section, a singing section I think there should be a drinking section......where all those who can't go 2 hours without alcohol can sit together.

That or I just won't get up to allow the drunkards past. Funny how they all seem to sit in the middle of a row 🤔.
Yeah I bloody hate it when people are enjoying themselves

I thought The Fans Bar opened up at half time too? Should help a lot with the demand in the Covered Upper.

Can you see the irony @golfaddick, you're ranting about... "If you want to have a beer, go to the pub. Don't go to football."

Likewise, if you don't want to stand up to let people pass, then stay at home and watch it on your sofa.

last time I went in there at HT they refused to even start pulling pints until the HT whistle had gone - even more pointless

It's a bit picky but I've never liked the idea of pre poured pints just sitting there for a while.

Remember the days when you could order your half-time pint before the match started behind The Covered End, and it would be ready waiting for ya when the whistle went...🍻

Play off home semi vs Wycombe. Sell out crowd. Some booths in Lower West were closed before game and at half time.

For those who travel from afar for the game with tight timings, it can be more than handy tk be able to grab some food and drink pre-match, but the queues and time are poor.

    ---------

We can make much more profit if we improve the speed of service.

It's the proverbial "leaving money on the table"

People want to spend money. Let them!

Could be wrong but think part of the problem is that because Gather & Gather run the bars they presumably take a decent cut of any profits which removes some of the clubs incentives to sort

The service for that game in the lower north was shocking. Staff were rude and arguing with everyone. Needs improving.

To get any sort of system and speed going to maximize the halftime break you need motivated staff who are switched on

The servers at The Valley struggle to tell their left from their right

I don't often drink at HT now but on one occasion last season I was on the beers with a mate so we popped down for one (West Upper). When I got to the front of the queue I waited seven minutes from ordering to receiving the two pints and a sausage roll that I asked for, and when they did finally arrive I had to remind the server to charge me for them.

However you feel about boozing during the game it's pure incompetence and surely something that needs sorting out for the club to maximise takings.

What about food, water, soft drinks? It's not just pints people want at HT, and it's all money into the club

That's what I'm planning on doing. Likely to only go to a handful of matches this season.

Take snacks , water & soft drinks in a bag or backpack .  I do and they’ve never been questioned or removed when the security look in the bag at the turnstiles.

But it's the highlight of my week to look forward to a delicious hot dog or burger.

Sod the queues and decant a beer, or any other tipple for that matter, into a vacuum flask like the old timer in the West Stand and have a relaxed drink in your seat.

Bring back the peanut vendors chucking bags up from the side of the pitch….
If you can't go 2 hours without a bag of peanuts you've got a problem

Arsenal and Spurs have the highest matchday revenue in world football. Brings in about £30 million a season more than Palace bring in (old statistice, probably a larger amount now). They can see the value in it, and have invested consequently - they serve food drink that is of a decent standard at what most people would consider a rip off price, and service is efficient enough that everyone who wants to buy something is able to do so. They are set up to ensure that they receive every pound that there punters are willing to spend.

We serve shit food and drink at a rip off price, plus you have to leave your seat at least 5 minutes before half time in order to be able to have time to get served and drink it. It is absolutely criminal for any business to have customers that want to spend cash and not have the infrastucture to take it off them.

I don't think it's ridiculous to suggest we could have doubled our matchday revenue last season if we'd given it the necessary thought and investment. I don't know how much the "fill from the bottom up" beer machines are that Spurs have, but I suspect they would have paid for themselves within 2 matchdays. Not at all complicated, doesn't require project managers or consultants. Surely at least one Charlton board member of the last 15 years or so has visited the Emirates or WHL at some point - why have they not returned home after that saying "that caterings good, we'll do that at Charlton in bring in a load of easy money." It's weird, I don't understand why it's such a challenge. (obviously not just us, plenty of clubs still offering rubbish product and rubbish service).
Went to spurs with a mate last season and the service was brilliant. I was thinking "we'll be here for days" when i saw the amount of people, but got a beer within 2 or 3 mins pre match and half time! They're really geared up for it, but it helps with the space that they've created clearly.

Even if you don't want to buy anything,  the ridiculous queues for the Curbs stand concourses completely clogs up the Curbs stand concourse areas.
  • We are in the Fans Bar pretty much every game. Best the queues, get a cheaper drink than the main bar, and support a CAFC supporter business! Win win !

Sell bottled beer instead of spending ages trying to pull a pint.
Plenty of clubs do this already.
Bottled beer is available in plastic bottles so no safety problem.
This would cut the length of queuing considerably.
And easier to smuggle to your seat 😂

Anyone go to Old Trafford for the Carabao Cup game? Service was way slower there and that was at a club that are used to handling 70k+ crowds
It was only £3 for a bottle of beer though 😀
