  • Carole Kaye was 90 a couple of days ago. Carole who? You might ask. You might not have heard of her but you will have heard her bass guitar as she was one of the most prolific session musicians, apparently having played on over 10,000 tracks, including many absolute classics. Google her for more info.
  • Herb Alpert is 90 today. Remember his music well, he always seemed to be guest star on shows in the seventies with the Tijuana Brass. Just given myself a Spanish Flea earworm typing this!
  • Rita Moreno. Actress Born 11 December 1931.

One of the few to have won an Oscar, Tony, Emmy and Grammy.

Appeared in Singin' In the Rain, The King and I, West Side Story (both 1961 and 1921), The Muppet Show and The Rockford Files amongst many others.

Sadly Chirpy is no longer around to tell me that she is not a celebrity.

    Ken Rosewall. Tennis player.

    Born 2 November 1934.

Won every major except Wimbledon during his career. Rod Laver, an all time great, was around at the same time as Ken.

Connors beat a 39 year old Rosewall in the Wimbledon final of 1974.

EDIT: Wimbledon final of 1974 not 1934 which was when Rosewall was born.

  • Keith Burkinshaw, the Spurs manager responsible for the signing of Ardiles and Villa and who was in charge when they won the UEFA Cup, was 90 yesterday.
  • Appreciate that Mel Brooks has been raised on this thread previously but as he's still going at 99, perhaps, he does deserve another mention?
  • Some very nice comments about Andy Nelson in the  Graham Tutt autobiography (compared to Foley)
  • The Dalai Lama is 90 today.
  • The Dalai Lama is 90 today.
Born in 1391……so a bit older than that.

Sorry.  Got them the wrong way round.  Andy was tough and uncompromising and known by the players behind his back as “Andy Hitler”.  Theo Foley the opposite.
  • Not as old as some on this thread but surprised me that he wasn't older is former cricketer and more famously umpire David Constant. He is 83. Back in the day when most of the umps were seemingly senior citizens he was umpiring in tests from age 29!
