In JRC and Carey it sounds like we’ve added a couple of players who can drive forward with the ball in midfield. Definitely something we needed more of in that area, taking some pressure off the wide players to offer that.

I can't remember the last midfielder we had who could play on the half turn. Panutche could do it but he never played. Before him... I'm struggling. Probably have to go back to Aribo.

What exactly are these injury problems because as far as I can see the guy in 2024/25 was selected in 44 out of 46 Championship match squads!!  You don’t get to do that if you are not fit.

In 2023/24 and 2022/23 he made 30 and 35 match days squads - not stellar I grant you but hardly disastrous.
Are you looking at the right player?

He played 29 league games last season.
27 and 24 games the seasons before that.

    Read the bottom line

Squad 44 Starting Eleven 13 Substitute 16 On Bench 15

Managers don’t put players in match day squads who are not fit

Attention admin, someone’s hijacked Grapevine’s account, that last post is far too short and pithy😉.

Lots of mixed reviews about him and his injury problems worry me. We just have to pray Dr Abbott can keep him fit and Coventry doesn’t miss many games - we’d be in huge trouble if we have to start Anderson and Docherty together.
Best thing to do is see what’s happens in his time at Charlton.

Judging by the Blackburn reporter’s comments on Cawley’s Substack, sounds like he’s better as a CM

    Or Colonel Sanders

If so we could have a finger licking good player on our hands.

Yes they do, as we have seen this first hand as Charlton fans, and there are probably thousands of examples where a player has been on the match bench or even starting when they're not 100%.

There's also a lot of Blackburn fans telling us that he has fitness issues and injury issues, but if he can play, he's decent etc.

There's a 9 page thread on the Blackburn forums discussing his injuries, best position and how he plays etc, feel free to give it a read for yourself

No player plays a season every match at 100%, if he’s available enough to be on the bench he’s available enough to play

JRCs seems to have a comprehensive record of his injuries in FM going back to his damaged cruciate ligament injury in 2018. That looks like the longest he's been out.

Last season he had a couple of minor injuries that kept him out a few days.

In 23/24 he was out about 2 months with a torn hamstring, and about a month with a knee injury.

22/23 he had a couple of minor knocks, so similar to last season.

He had a few more longer injuries before that, but we're talking 4-5 years ago.

There will be players with better records, but it doesn't look anything too alarming based on the last 3 seasons.

So if I politely accept the apparent testimony “from the terraces” could you kindly explain the value of selecting a player for a Championship match day squad who is deemed not physically able to perform? In this instance on 15 occasions?

    Solid signing --

    Very smart business so far.

Building a solid unit of players -

We need a little more flair, the boy from Blckpool would be excellent.

We have brought in players with Championship experience, that is great.
We shall have to see if they are good enough to keep us up.

Well look at us even recently, Aneke on the bench knowing he can't play a full game and is a breakdown risk, playing Lloydy through injury and giving him injections. Think we were playing May last season with a knock as well.

Clubs do it a lot, it's the same in a lot of sports, people may not be physically 100% but compete anyway.

Again, I am only going by his playtime (which I've broken down) and Blackburns fans opinions who I doubt are gonna just make up he has injury/fitness issues.

Sometimes clubs have to play a player through necessity.

Either way, I think he sounds a decent signing with his attributes and versatility, I am just not expecting him to play most games this coming season.

How did I miss him from the list? We’ve had:

    JCR
    JFH
    JFC
    JRS
    JRC

    And missed out on JCH.

That has to be all of them?
