  • Wouldn't like to call second place - almost 20 players separated by 2 shots. Meanwhile Scheffler goes clinically along his way with a 7 shot lead.
  • This is absolute domination from Scheffler. In a class of his own
  • Dechambeau opens with a 78.
    Finishes 9 under.
    Unbelievable really
  • I'm so glad I changed my bet from Scheffler to Rahm. I kind of want him to win by double figures now.

Post-Open it's always such a long wait until the next major. I wish the PGA had stayed in August.
  • Even the rescue putts from Scheffler are different class.
  • Not so good at decision making in the fairway bunker though.
  • At last, a mistake. Just 6 or 7 more needed!
  • Is it just my eyes or is the camera work at this open really shit?

    And a double bogey!
  • Is it just my eyes or is the camera work at this open really shit?
An example was Parry's hole in one yesterday. It might be my eyes too but I must have looked at it three or four times and still couldn't see the ball.

    I was exactly the same.
  • Scheffler way ahead in the world of golf at present. Another dominant performance.

He is,we need other players to step up otherwise these events will become very predictable and really boring to watch(Not that Scottie is boring,we need competition)
  • The only part of schefflers game that isn’t the best is driving distance. But no use being 30 yards in front and in the shit

I think the LIV split ruined golf.
  • Liv golf this weekend. Last year was really good and shows the open that maybe there’s a need for change with shotgun starts with play done in 4 hours. Next years open only an hour away next year for me but £300 more expensive than Liv golf this weekend. I appreciate it’s the history etc but the experience to see some of the best at the price is really good! Anyone potentially 50/50 about going then I recommend you do!

I don’t doubt that LIV is a good spectator experience, in a very different way, but no thank you to The Open becoming a shotgun start. Also not sure where you are getting £300 more expensive from. LIV Golf at JCB is £42 a ticket, The Open at Portrush was £120.

  • I mean, you cant really compare LIV to an open, thats an outrageous call/ slur even.
Yes if you want to go watch golf and maybe entertainment why not, but lets not compare the two as its not a proper event.
  • Probably cant even compare LIV to a regular Tour event...esp not a Rolex one.

My favourite outside the Open is Wentworth. Lovely course & a great competition.

So how come I’ve paid £86 for 3 days but for Birkdale next year it’s £130 for one day? Why don’t you want it to be a shotgun start when you’ve not experienced it? Golf needs to modernise itself. Playing from 07:30-2100 even after the cut isn’t going to get younger fans involved in the sport. Maybe not shotgun starts in the open but shot clocks need to be involved going forward. Anyway my post was to say that if you’ve never gone and were on the fence about going and like golf then I’d recommend you go, even the course itself is a joy to walk round.

I have no idea what you’ve paid and why, but the ticket prices for this year at The Open were as I’ve stated so saying they were £300 more is just wrong.

I have been to a LIV event thanks, and it’s a completely different experience. The Open had 280,000 people attend this year so I’m not sure why it needs to modernise itself when it’s doing pretty well as it currently is.

LIV is a great way to bring new people into the game, but calling for The Open to go the same way as it. Just no.

if he’s paid £86 for 3 days at LIV and £130 for 1 day at the open then yes it’s £304 more expensive
  • I am a keen Golfer but I often think the routine of 18 hole 4 round golf can be a bit boring for the fan and the participants alike.

Why not team tournaments/matchplay/ scrambles etc on the main tour.Golf in this country does have a participation issue and I think it could do better

Oh and bring back a round with Alliss..obviously not him but someone else .Wayne Riley for instance
  • If they're right handed they should play a round left handed and vice versa.

But no one is paying £300 for anything. You can go to The Open for £120. He was talking about £300 as a way to show that LIV is so much better value than the The Open, so yes if you go multiple days you will save more money but the point is the open doesn’t cost £300.

Would love to see your stats to back up golf having a participation problem in this country? I actually think you'll find that golf participation in this country is at pretty much an all time high.

Here at LIV now on a corporate jolly

I was at Portrush last week.   The experiences are chalk.and cheese.    The Open is for real golf fans.

Liv is for people that want a day in the sun with some good tunes and bang average golf.   Small crowds and little cheering.

I've enjoyed it but it's nothing like the true challenge The Open brings.
  • Shotgun starts are ok but it depends what you want from a golf day.
Went to the LIV event last year and because everyone starts at once you can watch a few groups in one spot and walk around to see some other holes but you can’t see every golfer and every hole too.

Went to the BMW at Wentworth a few weeks later and it didn’t feel as rushed to get round and see everything. We walked backwards round the course so we saw every group play and got to check out every hole too.

as I say, depends what you want from a golf day.

You are right and I am wrong I stand corrected it seems that post covid there has been an upturn..whilst this is the wrong thread its a shame that so many local courses aren't around to cater for it eg Beckenham ,broke hill, natts valley, Austin Lodge etc
