Loved having Jorge at Charlton for that brief but enjoyable period during the 2001/2002 season. The most talented and consistent defender ever to represent our club RIP

Mad to think that he went back to Porto after the loan spell in 2002, won the UEFA Cup as captain in 2003 and the Champions League as captain in 2004.

Crazy that they even let him out on loan in the first place.

Special player. One of the best to ever wear Charlton’s colours.

RIP Jorge. One of, if not the best CH I've seen in our shirt. Not the quickest, but he didn't have to be, he could read the game so well.

R.I.P Jorge Costa you absolute legend of a player.

Will still have him in my all time 11 I’ve seen at Charlton. I surprisingly met him and even played football with him at Cape Verde years ago. Absolutely gutted about this.

Truly heartbreaking news. Was a great player for Charlton and formed a fantastic partnership with Mark Fish. 53 is no age. Taken far too soon. RIP Jorge Costa
  • Awful news and way too young. He was great during his spell with us.
    RIP the Tank.

Does anyone remember that tackle from him against Chelsea at home? Think it was Hasselbaink about to pull the trigger and he just took the ball off his foot with ease. Class.
    Wasn't it Gudjohnsen?

Always remember this story as well...

I can’t recall exactly, but I think Curbs said joining us was a way for him to get his fitness up/recover from an injury.
  • Absolute shock. We need some recognition on Saturday before the match. RIP Jorge

Hardest in the tackle of any centre halves in 73 yrs of watching and that includes the great Derek Ufton and Paul Miller
Saw Jorge at Old Trafford - at the whistle the entire United team queued to shake his hand . Professionals recognise and respect those players who show genuine skill and class
    RIP Jorge

    RIP.

The love was mutual between Jorge and Charlton.

I remember reading on Instagram when we got relegated five years ago he described us as one of the two teams close to my heart.

I hope the club pays tribute to him Saturday
  • No age.

    RIP big man.
