That was rather lovely wasn't it? I went into the game not really having any expectations other than the fact this game will be a good representation of what a chunk of the league will be, and it turns out that "Struggling" Charlton are anything but that! Thought the attendance was pretty decent, and the atmosphere was excellent throughout. There was a 15/20 minute period in the first half where we were both cancelling each other out and actually felt a bit flat.. Josh's injury doesn't look good and credit to the guy for wanting to carry on too, but you could tell instantly that it's a concern.

Up steps Macca who put on one of the best substitute displays you're going to see for a while, he didn't show any signs of not being match fit and looked more than alert and ready, I'm so happy he scored quickly as it makes a huge statement! Still think he'll struggle to get in but he may get a few games if Josh is out for a while to certainly make his mark and give Jones a headache.

Second half though, we just clicked. We looked unplayable at times and caught Blackburn off guard completely, dispossessing them and creating constant attack after attack, Kelman showing glimpses again and TC looking hungry for a goal too, luck didn't fall their way today but I like their contributions and wearing their backline down

Tanto and Miles just look like an absolute nightmare for opposition though, they were so full of energy and just ripped them up completely. Special credit to Tanto for that 2nd goal and a few other moments too when he just was fantastic.

What I'm going to take from this result is that it's a massive team result, everyone just played so well together and really seem to be all in sync together. I'm not going to let myself get carried away, but I think this and the last 2 games have shown that we've got that spark together now, yes we're going to lose some games, but we're going to win a lot of games too now and play damn well each time too. I think we're in for a great season together

Can we stop singing about going up into the Premier League though please!

I agree as we wont be able to post the latest scores on here 😂

    He was absolutely atrocious.
That ref would miss his own funeral if he was in the coffin. Browny was initially giving him slack then after about 70 minutes he conceded that he was having an absolute stinker.

Too many challenges were going unpunished or getting decisions wrong about free kicks or corners.

Fortunately we got the late goals but until Carey's blaster it was a game crying out for a sucker punch. Relief was felt as much as anything when the second went in, and Bree's addition was the icing on the cake.

Too many chances we're missed, but we still created lots, so it shows we can compete and take charge of games. Lots to celebrate tonight. On to Derby.

When even Steve Brown is calling out the refs you know they truly are shocking.

    New mascot. Job well done.
Got some bemused looks in suburban Perth wearing  this on AFL grand final afternoon. "Is it Bobby Charlton's team..?"

Sonney Carey has been a revelation. A free transfer due to his contract expiring, probably Charlton fans thought that he was a punt, coming from Blackpool. What has impressed me is his workrate and the pace that he plays at. There was a moment during todays game when he did a lung busting retrieval, when our defence had been broken, and put in a tremendous tackle to snuff out a goal scoring opportunity. I never thought he would show the skill and workrate that he has demonstrated, and to top it off a fantastic 25m drive today, to score our second goal, to aliviate our anxiety. Hats off Sonny Carey, you are a hell of a player, and I'm glad that you a Charlton player.
Got a bit of Stephen Gerrard about him, can do it all

I went into Bet Fred in Tooting in July and tentantively asked what the odds were on Charlton getting promotion. The cashier after a lenthly phone call to HQ said 36-1 but it was automatic top two, so I thought no....lets not carried away!
Lets see where we are after around 10 matches....so trying not to get carried away after yesterdays excellent victory over Blackburn. I think a good barometere will be at end of October after Hull away. All i know is that like every season, I don't book a holiday in May, just in case we make the Play Offs, who knows, its a very long season, but delighted by the start. If there is one thing we all know Nathan teams get stronger during 2nd half  and at the end of matches, likewise in 2nd half of a season.....exciting times....COYA's.

I thought lets see where we are after @10 matches....so not get carried away with how season has straighted, of course I'm delighted by yesterday putting an established championship side to the sword. I will see where we are at end of October after Hull away. This properly is a good barometer of where we are and where we need to go. 18/1 on sky bet.

I don't get to the Valley often due to work and family commitments - but so glad I got there yesterday!  Just a great atmosphere and brilliant performance, particularly the second half.  Could easily have been 5-0.  I thought Doc and Coventry were immense.
    Enjoy your Sunday fellow Addicks.

I am thinking of booking another holiday in may like I did last season. I need to do my bit!

I want to mention Gillesphey though. The bloke was fantastic for us last season and was a key part in our promotion. I understand why he wasn't in the side but his perfomance yesterday was excellent and he is working is way to legendary status.

One of the best second half performances in many years. 3-0 was a fair reflection by a dominant team

Also, I learned last season not to question anything Jones does. He knows what he is doing and does it his way and I am happy with that. And I consider myself a student of the game and like to think about things but as far as Jones is concerend, he could put Warwick Davies in goal and I wouldn't question him. I questioned him last season and was wrong. Big time!

To think at one stage last season I posted that Jones had us playing the worst football I'd recalled seeing and that I didn't think he was capable of turning it around. Humble pie has never tasted so good.

Whatever happens the rest of this season we have a squad (demonstrated brilliantly by Macca and Tanto yesterday) that will run through brick walls. How brilliant it is to have a team of players you feel really connected to again.

One of the things I've noticed this season and a reason why we have not converted great play into more wins, is that the step up in quality of goalkeepers between League one and Championship.

In all the home games there have been efforts on target that we have started to celebrate only to be thwarted by the man in green (or whatever colour shirt worn - how many remember the days when keepers had to wear green and if it clashed then blue and yellow was reserved for internationals)

If Greg Docherty had a barn stormer of a game in midfield last week, Conor Coventry was just as good this week. Winning the ball, pressing hard and some great forward passes he showed the lot today.

But maybe still not my man of he match. For that step forward, James Bree. All I can say about his performance today is who was that Thierry Small character? Wow, can we sign him up before Southampton decide to give him another chance?
If we don’t sign ✍️ him up we will regret the day
as he is a very valuable asset to this team 👍👍

The match report states Alfie May scored the first goal.

Does anyone read what they've typed before posting it.

Charlton's media team leave a lot to be desired (except Charlotte who does great interviews).

It is the Inconsistency that is so irritating. For example, he had us move the ball a foot to the left before taking a FK, and then let them take a quick free kick nowhere near where the offence was committed later in the game.
A blatant push on a player was ignored and a later one punished with a FK AND a yellow. This seems to be part of a new two tier system where a foul is more serious depending on where it takes place.
Jones yellow was for persistent foul play and was justified IMO.
He got a lot right, I just think this “letting the game flow” is bollocks. If it is a foul you either consider play on or give the foul.

Jones talked last season about building a base and then layering things on top. I think it's the same case this season with the step up and change in personnel. Build a solid base then add on the attacking patterns of play, the possession based play, the control of midfield etc. That looked like the first stage of that. Hopefully we keep on getting better as the season goes on
