I'm off to Malaga and Granada for nine days next week. Any recommendations for restaurants / bars and things to see would be much appreciated. Cheers0

Can I ask how you will get to Granada from Malaga?CheshireAddick said:I'm off to Malaga and Granada for nine days next week. Any recommendations for restaurants / bars and things to see would be much appreciated. Cheers
Wasn’t sure how easy / cheap that journey is to be able to visit Alhambra etc.0

When we did it, we just drove a hire car. Can't remember that much about the journey, but it certainly wasn't problematic. I do remember the hire car people saying to be very careful of the speed limits, they have some very clever technology (drones?) to monitor speeds. Parking was easy, but had to be paid for - as you might expect they've got all that stuff well stitched up. Not sure what the etc might be. The Alhambra is massive and took us all day.valleynick66 said:

We're taking a Renfe train. It's £18.00 each way and takes about 1 hour and 45 mins. I believe there are plenty of coaches that go there too starting at £8.00 each way.valleynick66 said:

We're doing 3 nights in Malaga, 3 nights in Granada and deciding on where to spend the final 3 nights depending on what Malaga is like. We may go to Benalmadena for the last 3 nights1

We always use the regular coach service from Malaga bus station. Straightforward and inexpensive. You can then jump on the new tram service outside Granada bus station.valleynick66 said:

Just to add airport to Malaga bus station/renfe train station use train from airport to Maria Zambrano station. No need to queue for a ticket just swipe credit/debit card at barrier.1

Definitely, we often have a stopover in Torremolinos. Nice walk along the front and all very chilled out. Would recommend the Tent hotel for overnight. Inexpensive and great buffet breakfast included.HastingsRed said:

We're off to Seville on Thursday, 4 nights there & 3 in Cadiz. Any tips/recommendations appreciated & do you know if most places take card payments or should I take a good amount of euros ?0

Was looking forward to seeing one or two Charlton games while in Rhodes next week.
Checked the fixtures and it's international break week GRRRR0

Did the same and got a speeding ticket. The limit changes so much it's hard to keep track.Stig said:

Pretty sure I parked at the science museum (worth a visit with kids) and walked to the city centre, bus back.
It's probably a bit of a tourist trap given the location but Bodegas Castañeda is still a great place to have lunch.0

Don't forget the sun screen, it will still be in the mid 30,s.housemate said:We're off to Seville on Thursday, 4 nights there & 3 in Cadiz. Any tips/recommendations appreciated & do you know if most places take card payments or should I take a good amount of euros ?
Seville has great places to eat and drink on just about every street corner and most take cards but we did drop on a couple of smaller bars/cafes that were cash only so a few euros will be handy.
The cathedral, Alcazar of Seville, plaza de España, casa de Pilatos and Triana district are just a few of the must see places in Seville.
Not got to Cadiz yet, can you let me know how easy the trip is from Seville?

Cathedral & Alcazar already booked but will definitely check out the other places. We are travelling to Cadiz by train & have pre booked tickets, as limited number of direct trains. Journey is just over 90 minutes & hopefully straightforward but will feedback.1

I’d recommend the Setas de Sevilla (The Mushrooms I think also referred to as).housemate said:

The cathedral is good but I wouldn’t bother with going to the top of the tower as the view not always great either the number of tourists. 2 2

My impression of most European countries is that they are less card/phone payment dominated than the UK is now, so always bring some cash as well.
And 1 and 2 Euro coins are really useful to have, as a lot of museums and galleries have coin operated lockers.1

La Riviera is an authentic tapas bar in Granada. There is a list of the “free” tapas so you can ask for any of those you prefer with your drink, then there is a menu for more complex items that you need to pay for. I highly recommend the Gambas “pil pil”: prawns in bubbling olive oil with garlic and chilli. If you like meat, in the Albaicín district there is Casa Gabriel. We had the Pluma Iberico and the Presa Iberica, possibly the best meat we have ever tasted. I assume you will go to the Alhambra (a must see) but you must book a timed ticket in advance. If you fancy Flamenco then the show at Casa Ana is excellent, but there are lots of options. It was our first time in Granada and we will definitely be back!CheshireAddick said:I'm off to Malaga and Granada for nine days next week. Sorry, just realised this is way too late! Anyway, hopefully useful for anyone else planning to go!0

We loved Granada such a classy place. Loved the market which sold the tapas to eat. We eat some really strange fishy things.. see below. Will definetly go back.
We really like Malaga too, lovely old town and beach. Already booked to go back for a few days in December 👍. And the weather is still fantastic 26 degrees 😎

Thinking of a holiday in South Africa, possibly on the coast somewhere. Has anybody been, any recommendations?0
-

I lived there for 3 years, so have lots of recommendations, depending on what you want to do and for how long and when - and if you love wine! Someone on here (President?) lived there longer-term than us.CAFCTrev said:Thinking of a holiday in South Africa, possibly on the coast somewhere. Has anybody been, any recommendations?0
