From what's coming out of Aus I think that is a best case scenario. He had a stress fracture and apparently only started running in the last couple of days. They were hoping he would be bowling off the short run by this point. I cant see him appearing before the 3rd test and given the last 3 are back-to-back-to-back I cant see him playing more than 2 tests. I think there is a decent chance he doesn't appear at all, it will only take a minor setback in rehab and there is zero chance.

Must have been living under a stone re TNT - as wasnt aware they had Ashes.
Oh well, now time to ditch Sky then as my protest about the Gary Neville rant.

I pay for my TNT subs via Sky. Can't remember how much it is extra per month (£20 / £25 ?) and was going to cancel it in the summer then found out that they are showing the Ashes so decided to keep it.

Saying that you do get all the CL and Europa matches as well so might keep it going once the Ashes are won in early Jan 🙂.

Watching England's 2nd  ODI.  New law re wides down the leg side. Twice in 1 over Root played at a wide one, no contact, and no extras given as it was inside the new tramline. Next ball he manages to get a bat on one & is caught behind.

They are finding new ways to piss around with the laws & England manage to fall into the new laid trap.

Pissing me off so I'm off to bed.

Hell of an effort from Archer that, but sadly the game at the other end was very different

Yes but we're nailed on to win the dead rubber in this series. Mustn't feel too sorry for the boys though because they all have their golf clubs with them.

Imagine if we could bat for 50 overs, though, what we might have achieved:

First game - 223 all out (35.2 overs)
Second game - 175 all out (36 overs)

Since the WC in 2023 the only team we've beaten in an ODI series is West Indies at home - and we lost to them in two other series (home and away) as well as to India, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

These players are too good to be producing these sort of results but, all the time the ECB's priorities are elsewhere, things are unlikely to change.

In terms of the Ashes, the batter offering the most concern is Duckett. Since that Mickey Mouse competition (in which he averaged 17.57), he has batted five times with scores of 5, 14, 31, 2 & 1. He also asked to step away from the game due to burnout but that seven-week break doesn't appear to have done him much good.

I'm not sure what we will do for the final game. Duckett, Bethell, Root, Brook and Smith, from our potential Ashes top seven, are all in the side already but one suspects that we will take the opportunity to shoehorn Crawley into the line up. Otherwise, what was the point of taking him? Apart from for the golf of course. I suspect someone in the current team will become "ill" overnight or "be feeling a slight twinge" on the morning of the game. Possibly even Duckett.

Quick reminder that the women's semi-finals today (England v SA) and tomorrow (Aus v India) are at 9.30 not 10.30, because their clocks don't change when ours do.

On a good pitch SA are 93-0 off 18 overs.

If there is a criticism, it is that we've packed the offside for Wolvaardt in the knowledge that this is her strength but then fed that addiction by constantly bowling 5th/6th stump to her. She's too good a player not to take advantage of that and adopting an off stump line would have served us better.

SA three scores of over 40 and 3 of 0 or 1. England taking wickets in clusters which is a positive.

202-6 now, Ecclestone running out of overs but being very effective when she does bowl

319-7 in the end. Can't see us getting that. Brilliant 169 from Woolvaart.

Considering we bowled out SA for 69 in group stage, 319 aint bad !!

BBC saying England's highest successful run-chase is only 264, so this is a bit of a stretch. It would need the second highest chase ever in the women's version of the world cup, behind only the Aussies chasing down India earlier in this competition. Hmm.

And while I was typing that we went from 0-1 to 0-2.

Time to switch off the radio and go make a cup of tea, I think.
