Good evening everyone, and welcome to tonight's Match Thread…

Yes, a nice entertaining game is anticipated under our wonderful new floodlights for the first time, and tonight it's West Bromwich Albion who we welcome to The Valley as we go in search of another three points to add to the one hard earnt point Saturday, that was a tough watch at times.

West Brom currently sit in 12th spot, four places and two points adrift of us after a 0-0 home draw with Shef Weds Saturday, but we ain't looking in that direction tonight are we, no, we could potentially finish back in the top 6 with a win tonight, and why not, team selection could prove interesting, but sure Nathan will have them fired up tonight…

Both Amari’i Bell and Reece Burke will be assessed after being forced off during Saturday's match, while Matty Godden continues to make positive progress, but Josh Edwards remains sidelined, Toby Collyer, Jayson Molumby and Jed Wallace are all doubts for the visitors.

We've gone toe-to-toe on 62 previous occasions, winning 21, the Baggies 21 and the remaining 20 encounters ending all square, our last meeting ended in a 2-2 draw at The Valley back in 2020, with Josh Davison and Tom Lockyer both on the scoresheet.

There will then be a period of silence pre match tonight to honour all of those who gave their lives in service to their country since 1914…

Here we go…

Team News…

Onel Hernández will make his first start for the Addicks in tonight's game against West Bromwich Albion at The Valley as Nathan Jones makes three changes to the side that drew with Swansea City on Saturday.

Kayne Ramsay and Miles Leaburn also start as Reece Burke, Amari’i Bell and Charlie Kelman all miss out due to injury. U21s captain Keenan Gough is named in a league squad for the first time.

Ramsay joins Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

James Bree and Onel Hernández are expected to operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Sonny Carey and captain Greg Docherty making up a midfield three. Leaburn partners fellow academy graduate Tyreece Campbell up front.

Gough is joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Joe Rankin-Costello, Karoy Anderson, Luke Berry, Ibrahim Fullah, Harvey Knibbs, Rob Apter and Tanto Olaofe.

Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Bree, Carey, Coventry, Docherty (c), Hernández; Leaburn, Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Gough, Rankin-Costello, Anderson, Berry, Fullah, Knibbs, Apter, Olaofe

  • Under the (new) lights at The Valley.#cafc have won eight of their last nine midweek league games.

West Brom have lost their last three away matches in the Championship.

But this division doesn't really tend to follow the script all that often.

  • First time in a while I’ve felt a little on edge. Not sure why this evening. Possibly the injuries we got last game meaning we might need to go to plan b.

    Mon the reds

No. They just don't like selling tickets online in the hours before kick off.

I got told off on here once before for thinking that was all a bit odd in this day and age.
  • Depleted squad through injuries, especially in the back four. Our strength all season has been a solid defence and hard working midfield. I feel the relentless nature of the Championship is starting to take its toll. I hope Jones's inspirational motivational skills will overcome our injury situation, but I'm in the concerned camp.

    I think it odd.
  • I would be there tonight, but due to jury service in Manchester I won't be able to make it.

Unless we're playing four at the back and going 4-3-3 - Dont forget that looks similar to how we ended against Swansea on Saturday, with Hernandez and Campbell either side of Leaburn - With Bree and Ramsay Full-Backs in a back four.

So the Kelman rumour was true. Typical, gets off the mark then gets injured. Hopefully not out too long.

That’s the team pretty much everyone predicted. Even with Kelman fit it’s the team I selected to start. Losing Burke means we need Leaburns height back in the side for set pieces.

Hopefully find out from NJ tonight how long Burke and Bell are out. Literally down to the bare bones at the back.

Be surprised if he releases any info, he's usually keeps injury lengths quite close to his chest.

We dont even know realistically how long Edwards will be out for.

It was injuries that completely destroyed our last season in the championship, absolutely dreading a repeat

Doesnt take a Sherlock to find out, but Cawley has confirmed that Kelman is on the injury list.

Number of injuries for #cafc tonight - Charlie Kelman, Reece Burke, Amari'i Bell and Josh Edwards all sidelined.

Still no Matty Godden as well.

Especially as Terry Smith bloody quoted that 2019/20 just before Saturday, and suddenly we have three injured...

    I blame him!! ;)

This will be a very big test. Three of our seven defenders out injured and no defender on the bench except one who has not played one minute of League football.
Big ask as well  up front for Leaburn and TC to press enough to keep the pressure off our defence, as Kelman and atC have done so far this season.
A draw would be a very good result.

It was far more than that, including a certain player refusing to play. We’re in a very different place now with a fair amount of squad depth too. It’s not a repeat

I wouldn’t say that we’re that far off. And it was way before the snake’s actions that we were in for a struggle.
