1am and just arrived home. Got to love an M25 closure and night-time roadworks on just about every other road down to the west (ish) country. It’s somehow less irksome after a last minute winner.6

WBA are another Championship team (like Swansea) that for much of the time look much better than us, but lack the cutting edge to threaten opponents enough. We are the opposite. Often not attractive to look at, BUT really effective and with enough attacking threat to grind out wins. Even after missing a penalty with Doc's limp effort.
Jones was a rock all game, my MOTM, with Gillesphey playing well also. Not everything Coventry tried came off, but I liked his approach. He tried to make things happen in midfield. Hernandez tried his best, but his lack of a left foot meant we had little width down the left.
As for Carey, such an inspired signing.
The subs improved us. Knibbs was more impactful than in recent sub appearances, while Fullah was imperious.8 -
I have bad enough insomnia without Charlton scoring another late late winner to leave me buzzing all night.12

Par for the course. You spouted off without knowing what the fuck you were talking about.golfaddick said:
Watching on tv you could see NJ looking for someone to hug as the team congregated on the touchline. He was like a virgin in a brothel.robroy said:

At the time I thought it was NJ but perhaps it wasn't as he seems to be in the middle of it all. Anyway....there was one of the coaching staff looking for someone to hug !11 -
Why do some people have to have a go at others for no reason? Did your parents not teach you any manners ?Major said:

Apter's best role is clearly wide-right at the top of a 4-3-3 or maybe wide-right in a 4-4-2, as long as he has cover behind him, a bit like our great Icelander JBG.LargeAddick said:
The corner that went out of play was weird. From where I sat I thought if he takes it like that it will surely go out then back in and so it did. He's still better than Apter defensively and I'm not sure Wrexham away would be the place to change it. Apter will find him place in the end higher up the pitch. He's young and on a four year contract, his time will come.golfaddick said:
If Apter can't get ahead of Bree on Saturday he might as well put in a transfer request. Bree's dead ball delivery was woeful. 2 corners went low to the near post that were easily cleared (I do realise we then scored when it wasn't cleared well enough but the goal was all down to Carey) and another corner swung out of play before getting anywhere near their goal.FishCostaFortune said:
I don’t think they are being phased out. Apter is just unfortunate to be behind someone as talented as Bree, and JFC is not going to be brought on as a ‘game changer’, so unless we have an injury crisis in midfield he is going to have to wait his chance.Pelling1993 said:
I have no idea about JRC but there’s a player in Apter. He will get another chanceIR94 said:Feels like Apter and JRC are getting phased out by Jones, so strange such excitment around JRC signing but he has barely played a minute.
Bree is a shadow of the player that came into the team in Sept. Whether he's been told he will be recalled by Saints in Jan, or just going through a bad patch......but whatever it is he should be "rested" for Sat.
He did OK as the RWB in our 3-5-2, but, just like TC, it's a lot to ask for an attacking player to do that, by contrast Bell, Edwards and Bree have done very well in that slot.
He has time on his side but it is hard to see where he fits in at the moment.4 -
I was over for the 3-0 smashing of Derby on October 19th, putting us 7th in the table.Callumcafc said:

We have already won 6 of our first 14 games this year!
It was winning only 6 of the following 32 that killed us.
That game must have been the sixth of those wins because we didn't win again until Boxing Day!6 -
Just a comment about the penalty...
Fair play to Doc for taking it. There were 2 strikers on the pitch, and they both shied away from taking it. I thought strikers only metric was goals scored?
If either Kelman or Godden were on the pitch, do you think Doc would have got the ball out of their hands? He'd have had to kill them first...12 -

Great result.Funnily enough I think those last 5 excellent results have been a downturn in the overall quality of our performances Vs a lot of the earlier season games when we produced more mixed results eg Bristol Scum Leicester.I think we’ll need to improve our performances if we are to stay inside the top 10, especially with such a tough run coming up - I hope the positive results/ all these late goals etc don’t cause us to ignore/ underestimate the need to try and improve as you can’t rely on nicking late smash and grab goals every weekFullah looks exciting, Carey is different gravy
I feel sorry for apter

On holiday so missed the game, have just finished the highlights.
I didn’t think the penalty was too bad, just the right height for the save if the keeper goes the right way.
Looked quite the howler for the goal. Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.1 -
That concern about results masking the reality is underlined reading Jones comments about it being thoroughly deserved and we had real control. I felt we were fortunate to win and really 2 underwhelming home draws against midtable sides is what we deserved from the last 4 days.
Hope we can get a positive result at Wrexham and then get a well earned international rest before we return against saints, typically we fare better against those sort of sides performance wise but who knows what they’ll be like under new management..3 -
Just watched this commentator's reaction to the goal on Youtube.
He doesn't like their manager, didn't like the substitutions and kept muttering Charlton Athletic in a rather disparaging way ... oh and he absolutely hates Nathan Jones.
Not easy watching a fellow human breaking down, but I think I might watch it again.

More like 31, no?Bedsaddick said:Just 21 points away from safety 😉0 -
I wouldn't disagree with that Golfie, I think it should be noted that both Swansea and WBA made sure our wing backs didn't have any space to work in, if they don't get forward our midfield end up lumping the ball forward. I think Hernandez was a pretty good replacement for Bell but Apter has still a lot to learn when it comes to defending, I'd rather see what happened last night with Fuller injecting pace into the midfield three.golfaddick said:

Correct me where necessary, but I reckon these are the late decisive goals in our favour, this calendar year, 80+ mins.
Bolton (away) 2-1 - Anderson 86
Shrewsbury (home) 1-0 - Small 90+6
Peterborough (home) 2-1 - Gillesphey 89
Orient (away) 2-1 - Gillesphey 90+2, Ramsay 90+7
Wycombe (home) 1-0 - Godden 81
Watford (home) 1-0 - Knibbs 90+4
Sheff Utd (away) 1-0 - Olaofe 90
Hull (away) 1-1 - Berry 90+1
West Brom (home) 1-0 - Carey 90+5
Late decisive goals not in our favour, this calendar year, 80+ mins.
Blackpool (away) 2-2 - equaliser 87
QPR (away) 3-1 - winner 84
Millwall (home) 1-1 - equaliser 88

Again didn’t play particularly well again but came away with all three points. What Jones has built and is still building is so special. What they may lack in skill they make up for in hard work and effort.
Had we have drawn I would have questioned why subs were made so late as they changed the game in the last 15 minutes especially Fullah who looked like an experienced championship player. But who am I to question the Welsh wizard whose game plan once again worked out perfectly.
Nothing needs to be said about Carey, he is an absolute revelation and fastly becoming our most important player alongside Lloyd Jones. My only worry is the reliance on him for goals, TC and Leaburn largely ineffectively today but do feel sorry for Miles just getting long balls pinged at him all night. He does what he can!
Anyway, another tough game Saturday, we come away from this three game week with 5 or 7 points it’s another good return.6 -

I think we lose a bit of perspective here. If a year ago you were to tell me that we would be picking up drawers against Swansea and then West Brom (who let’s not forget have been in the play offs/challenging for the play offs last two seasons) I wouldn’t have used the word underwhelming.paulsturgess said:That concern about results masking the reality is underlined reading Jones comments about it being thoroughly deserved and we had real control. Yes midway through the 2nd half after they had a couple of chances our fans really stepped it up right to the end.oohaahmortimer said:Thought the fans were more than decent last night , got behind the team from the off , much better than Saturdays library , well done the cupboard end8 -
Nothing beats coming on Charlton Life the morning after a last minute winner and finding two insomniacs going at.27

I am probably getting a bit carrieed away here, there used to be a time, when players from lower divisions got England recognition.I think our championship apart from the top level clubs is as good as some of the other top leagues in Europe. We do not have a really dominating Centre half in the England set up,Step forward Lloyd Jones,if he was a bit better on the ball,he would walk into a mid table premiership side, and I have not seen a better header of the ball anywhere ,yes I am a bit overwhelmed by our club at the moment, but thats how highly I and everyone else rates this man.
Our fitness level last nigh was phenominal after a tough game on saturday,to lose 3 players, and finish that strongly was incredible.Play Wrexham,2 weeks rest and we will be ready to go again.3 -
Caught myself humming the Sonny Carey song and grinning to myself while out walking the dogs this morning.
Thought we were outplayed in the first half, but the WBA strikers couldn’t hit the side of a barn and the defence and Jones were imperious.
Second half much better and a moment of daring from Sonny means we’re up to 5th!7 -

We have a much stronger squad,we wont have to use untried teenagers like we did then, also we wont lose our best player halfway through the season,we will be playing in front of our supporters ,not on empty stadiums.and hopefully we wont give away 10 plus points to last minute goals.Callumcafc said:

Budget-wise they are way ahead. If either offered 6-7 mill for Jones in January the club would have to consider it? He is 30+gringo said:

I think his age counts against him, thankfully.
