NJ is doing brilliantly but how on earth he nominated docherty to take penalties is a mystery - Carey, Leaburn, Bree and Gillesphey have all proven they can strike a ball cleanly with power and pace - i said to my son before he took it, i just couldn't see him scoring - the only way he scores with that shot is if the keeper goes the wrong way. I've hit penalties like that and wouldn't again. I've also blasted them over - its nothing to do with bottle, its about people who know how to hit a ball. Carey would have struck it so it didn't matter where the keeper dived.

The performance - as i expected - not pretty but the formula works and really pleased with the subs made and the improvement thereafter. Fullah provided much needed 'fizz' and WBA backed off and we regained control and there was a belief again - the crowd sensed it as well. Felt like we were going through the motions before that, waiting for the cavalry and our superb defence were holding the fort.

Fullah is a massive bonus and i believe central midfield is his position - couldn't be better. Doc's done well but we need options there
Come on now, it was a bad penalty but Docherty definitely knows how to strike a ball. You just have to look at his goals against Bolton, Northampton and the one he hit against Huddersfield. He strikes the ball very well and he took a very good penalty in preseason, he just hit a bad one yesterday. Nominating our right back who has scored 6 career goals in 300-odd appearances as a better option shows just how silly we're getting with this.
Everybody I saw at the ground, have read on here and spoken to since thought it was silly that docherty was taking it - Carey should have, no question

I fancy Fullah up front, maybe with TC. They would give any Champ defence the run around and Fullah has goals in him as well.

Can’t we at least wait for Fullah to start a game or two before the doom and gloom please 😂

I thought Leaburn looked poor against the Massives, great at Ipswich, and average last night (he was feeding off scraps mind you) so tge same problem might befall Fullah. I'd give him 20 minutes at the end against Wrexham like last night. He looks a real game changer. Let's bring him through carefully.

NJ has to be careful with him of course. But he is more talented than any of our other attacking players and it would be great to take advantage of that. And as NJ himself said, "If.. I threw him in, then I’m not sure he would come back out.” So let us see what happens now he has been thrown in to such good effect.

Naturally, after everything we've been through and only 1 previous Championship season in the last 9 years - many of us still seem to be thinking a 21st place finish will be success.

Nathan Jones evidently doesn't think this way - all season he's been saying "competive", "momentum" "building something", etc.

Maybe time to take a leaf out of NJ's book?

Time to stop looking over our shoulder, fearing the worst?

Time to look up, and enjoy the moment now?

We may not have the division's most talented footballers.

    But .... We've got a proper team!

    Well said

One real positive that came out of this game is that if later in the season we have a penalty in a crucial game, Greg Docherty won't be taking it. 😊

What's impressed me is the side's resilience to injuries and other absences. We lost Edwards, I got concerned, and we adapted; we lost Bell and still kept a clean sheet last night, add to that the Ramsey suspension a few weeks back and the fact we still performed without him and it's bloody impressive. Plus, that's not even mentioning we've been without last season's top scorer all season.

We've got a proper squad with no passengers and everyone knows how to play and fit into the system.

We're crying out for Godden to link up play between the midfield and the likes of Leaburn and Kelman. In fact we could also really do with a ball-winning playmaker who can pick a pass. Amazed to see Docherty start every game this season as I just don't think he is a championship player (along with a few others). Not an easy watch.

HOWEVER - this lot just never give up. The work rate and 'giving a shit' is there for all to see, kudos to Jones for that as well. The subs were great, suddenly looked less one-dimensional and the feeling that anything could now happen. Thought Hernandez was bloody impressive too and offers something different.

Good vocal support for us, and also the Baggies fans that came down.

The fact we dug in and won that with key players injured is bloody inspiring.

Feels surreal being 5th - tho as long as we don't go down I'll see this season as a roaring success.
I don't think there are too many ball-winning playmakers that can pick a pass in our budget unfortunately, or even in the championship as a whole. So if it's one or the other, our style of play favours the ball-winning aspect, hence Docherty and Coventry. For sure we can improve on this area with the right funds, smart scouting or maybe growing our own.

46 points from 19 home league games this year with a cup win against Stevenage and playoff semi final against Wycombe added on top of that. 16 wins, 4 draws, 1 loss from 21 games. Absolutely incredible how quickly The Valley has turned from a toxic ground with 6,000 fans in it into a fortress. Teams hate coming to play us here
Low crowd last night though just 17k lots of gaps even in Covered

I think we will do well to count the amount of times other fans say we were shit and they should have won this season. Eventually they might start to realise that NJ has got this squad absolutely horrible to play against and willing to run through walls to stop the opposition playing. It might not be pretty but it seems to be effective so far
