Just seen a post on X about Kone and Kelman - we’ve come a long way since the early months of the season when Kone was meant to be the much better signing and Kelman a dud.
Kone scored 3 in 3 in August/September, including 1 against us. I hadn’t realised he’s only scored 2 since then.1 -
After the Oxford match, in which Leaburn was excellent, Nathan Jones was keen to point out that Miles is being asked to play as an old fashioned No.9 target man in a way he not really been asked to before, and that NJ felt he was starting to grow i to that role. He’s being asked to adapt to that, the Championship, and still re-finding himself after a long injury, while still only just turned 22. Lots for him to learn still, but absolutely he shouldn't be written off yet. NJ certainly seems to be happy with his progress and has shown faith in him recently.Scoham said:
Leaburn’s still young enough and new enough to the Championship that we shouldn’t write him off.crookester said:Lots saying we need a partner for him but I actually think him and Leaburn are showing real signs of promise.
There are some over the top views on both sides, one side very defensive of our youngsters, the other extreme who write off all youngsters that aren’t immediately Lookman/Shelvey/Gomez level.
I want to see more consistency from him in terms of his hold up play, do that and we’ll improve going forward and he’ll create more for others.9 -
I was definitely on the Kone side but tbh think I might have said somewhere in this thread that Kelman might score more this season even though I think Kone is the better signing.Scoham said:Just seen a post on X about Kone and Kelman - we’ve come a long way since the early months of the season when Kone was meant to be the much better signing and Kelman a dud.
Kone scored 3 in 3 in August/September, including 1 against us. I hadn’t realised he’s only scored 2 since then. The reason Kone is a much better signing in my opinion is because he’s got a lot more potential, he might not fulfil it but if he does he could easily be a £10m+ sale for QPR. He’s only 22, has the physical profile that top flight clubs are looking for in a number 9 and has also had a lot less professional coaching than a normal pro, so there should be a lot of room for him to improve from where he is now.If Kelman maxes out his potential he will be a top championship striker, if Kone maxes out his then I think he’s a premier league player1 -

He's starting to come good - really think we're about to turn the corner but i'm more convinced than ever that he needs a strike partner and that, in addition to a wing back or 2 should be our transfer window priorities - a proven mobile target man - let TC and Leaburn continue to learn from the bench2

Make of that what you will…
That Kelman and Olaofe are our most accurate strikers and that if they were given the same amount of chances to shoot as TC and Leaburn they'd likely convert more into goals.Player Total Shots On Target % On Target Kelman 6 4 66.7% Olaofe 5 3 60.0% Leaburn 15 6 40.0% Campbell 23 3 13.0%

That was Ellis Simms, one of the best championship strikers. If we can upgrade to somebody like him then we obviously should but they don't come cheap.Steven81 said:
Yep he's young and growing with every game but for what we need now in the championship is someone who's got that bit extra and more polished,I don't really care about opposition players or learn there names but one of there strikers today was controlling balls fired into him and spinning soo well laying the ball off etc that's the kind of striker we need with kelman.Crispywood said:Think he’s a great option to throw on last 20 when you may want to play more direct because he does cause carnage and wins a lot of headers but need someone with a bit better all round play2 -
Not sure on how much they paid for Simms in 2023 but I would be surprised if it was under £6m. Then again they banked £18m for Gyorkeres in the same window so that was smart business.crookester said:

The battling and work rate is great to see, but I don’t want him forgetting he’s a striker and needs to shoot to score, I thought he should have done better with that chance yesterday, we don’t get enough chances to be squandering them. Same with berry when he got through what happened there?NabySarr said:
Even though he was poor against Norwich, the team were even worse after he was subbed. Playing a key role at the momentpaulsturgess said:Do Not underestimate the job Leaburn is doing at the minute. Norwich aside, he’s been excellent the past few games and I suspect if you asked opposing defences in a lot of those games they would say he was a nightmare to play against.
it seems like it might also be lost on many of those heralding Kelman’s upturn in form since returning that he is now playing with a new partner as opposed to all season pre injury when he was struggling. That might not be a mere coincidence.0
