Pre match in lounge the Q & A was with Bumsted and Hasslebank.
You write your questions down and they get asked by Terry Smith.I asked could they say what size shorts they wore at Chelsea and Charlton for both of them 😜….

Here's an old picture of the kit man and his team packing up JFH's shorts ready to get them to the laundry.oohaahmortimer said:Pre match in lounge the Q & A was with Bumsted and Hasslebank.

The game plan was clearly to keep it tight first half, which so nearly worked, then second kicking into the Covered End give it a go. Sadly by the time we did, it was 2-0.Most of, if not all Chelsea set pieces went to the front post. Not sure if that is usual for them or a weakness they have spotted?
Great scenes when we scored, but sadly the quick third killed any chance of a come back and the crowd. A real shame we didn’t go into the last 10/15 at 2-1. The Valley would have been rocking and given the players an extra 10/15% that most needed by the 75th min.Miles is really starting to find form and finally managing to play 90mins consistently now. He will be massive for us in the second half of the season7 -
A disappointing evening. We were, unsurprisingly, outclassed by Chelsea but the final scoreline flattered them. Their second and third goals were very soft and the two in injury time, when we looked out on our feet, rubbed salt in the wounds.Leaburn had a fine match, as did Lloyd Jones and Bell, whose injury didn’t look good. I thought that young Keenan Gough also acquited himself well.Let’s hope we can get some reinforcements through the door in the next week or so, together with the return of at least some of the walking wounded. We are certainly going to need them with a series of demanding fixtures coming up.11

PWR. Good God those two commentators were blowing smoke up Chelsea’s arse all game. Their players should look good, the value of their matchday squad was what, 400m? Caicado alone cost 115m. Tossers.
As for us. Thought we did ok. 5-1 flattered them, 3-1 would have been fair. Mannion did well, Gough too. Leaburn MOTM for us. Bell’s injury a real blow, can’t see that being a quick fix. Lloydy kicked the ground, wasn’t fouled, no pen. Mannion got the ball before the man, no pen, but what a surprise it was given.
Back to the league which is way more important. That’s it.7 -
Disappointing? It was Chelsea we played and the scoreline flattered them. What did you expect?Blucher said:A disappointing evening. Just been talking to my son re your last paragraph. Hated the pyrotechnics & "lightshow". Even Sandgaard didnt resort to that crap. Cut all that out & spend the money on the team. .Raith_C_Chattonell said:
How many times have Charlton beaten a team from a higher division in the FA Cup? I go back to the mid 60s and I can't remember too many ... actually I can't remember any - but that may be the whisky talking.golfaddick said:I hate modern day football & pity all those of you born after 2000.
40 years ago we would have attacked them from the off. Keeper would have kicked the ball downfield & our front men would have fought for the ball. Chelsea would then attack & would probably score. But they wouldn't spend 10 mins passing it fucking sideways going nowhere.
I remember the FA Cup tie against Spurs in 1981. Held them a draw at The Valley & narrowly lost at WHL. (There were replays in those days & it was delayed a few times due to heavy snow). None of this keep ball for 10 mins looking for an opening.
This evening was a poor advertisement for football.imo.
I thought we did what we do tonight, we gave it a go, we left everything out on the field and I rewarded my team with applause as they left the pitch - you can't ask for more.
However, the gulf between a good League One side competing in the Championship and a good Premier League team is frightening.
Our owners have done OK, but they need to wake up and smell the coffee. Look at Birmingham, look at Wrexham. The Championship isn't a league to pissball around in using your loose change. The fireworks, DJ and lighting were good tonight, but if you really wanna put on a show, spend the money.
One other point. Did anyone else think it's dangerous to cut out all the stadium lights just as hundreds of people are walking down the gangways. How on earth have Health & Safety agreed to that. Just needs someone to fall headlong down the concrete stairs and kill themselves to ensure a very expensive lawsuit.12 -
It has been like that for months now. It really is a disgrace.golfaddick said:
They didn't piss on the floor. The urinal got block & overflowed. I could see that when I went in before the game around 9.40pm. Was 10x worse when I went back in again after the game had finished.Dazzler21 said:
Can fellow fans not act like normal human beings and not piss all over the floor?golfaddick said:
Do we not have stewards or stadium staff who can sort it out during the game ? This is 2025. ....not 1975.Dazzler21 said:
Might want to look at your fellow fans for that.golfaddick said:PWR.
Don't know what to think after that. My emotions are all over the place. Angry, annoyed, pissed off and feeling sorry for the lads - didn't deserve that scoreline at the end.
Will need to cool down before I post sensibly but all I will say is this.....we certainly need a LWB by next Saturday.
Oh......and the club is a shambles. Toilet block in the AC stand had a floor full of piss. Cant use 2 of the cubicles or the far end urinal unless you want to be able deep in the stuff.
Utterly shambolic on & off the pitch.0 -

Couldn’t make it today. Family birthday. So watched on phone etc, feeling it as if I was there, seeing it somewhat objectively.
We held our own.Be proud of our club. Be proud we are Charlton fans not generic plastic prem whatevers.Don’t let the likes of golfaddick suck the positivity from us.Let’s stick with the boys, stay up and keep competing at these levels and never lose a sense of who we are.
I love CAFC17 -
Wasn’t a humiliation? It wasn’t far off. They could easily have got 9 and the near post goal was arguably one of worst bits of Charlton defending ever.jose said:Despite the margin it wasn't a humiliation.Concern for the injuries.
Would Leaburn have enhanced his value after this evening? I thought he competed very very well against Premier class players. But the players tried hard and Leaburn gave them problems.3 -
Despite the result, I enjoyed last night, a friend from Brooklyn came and we had a good catch up in Valley cafe. I'm a sucker for razzmatazz, so loved the pre match build up and pyro display and the fog rolling in was very atomspheric......
If nothing else last night proves, time and again that Charlton have a large fan base who will turn up for the big guns, important matches and if we were pushing for promotion. We just need our owners to invest in the team as the crowds will come back if the team does well and starts getting results.....
its really that simple. COYA

In the game for an hour but ultimately outclassed. Last night i went to bed thinking 5-1 was harsh but now i've seen the highlights back as well as the match stats i don't think we can have too many complaints (apart from the penalty). Chelsea had 30 shots and 16 on target. If it wasn't for Mannion it could've been more.
As a comparison, an almost identical Chelsea side (Tyrique George started instead of Garnacho) had 19 shots, 6 on target and beat league one Cardiff 3-1 last month in the league cup.6 -
Mannion - at least as good as Kaminski but commands his box better, releases the ball quicker and more accurately and doesnt cost £20k a week
Leaburn - looked a handful for their v expensive centre backs and scored. Good day for him
TC - with bell on the pitch defended against Gittens well, still made some forward runs although would have liked to see more but dis well, less well when Bell came off as Macca isnt as good as bell
Coventry - looked exposed
Docherty - i wouldnt have started him and he showed why. Only offers anything out of possession and hasnt got the legs to back up his nouse. guess he starts to try and break up Chelsea counterattacks and because we have limited ambition to create forward moves but given Carey's form has fallen off a cliff and is plumbing the depths of the Mariana trench I'd rather see Anderson and Costello
Carey - played well start of season with Apter, then looked great without Apter, now looks shocking. Not sure where he's left his mojo but he needs to send out a search party
Bell - what a class player he is for us. Eill be sorely missed for however long his current injury keeps him out
Gough - looking forward to seeing more of him, looks good already and hope he continues to improve rather than suffering the massive drop in form and confidence that so often seems to accompany our youth players incorporates into the team while young
Bree - looked rapid today. Havent seen him zip about with such pace for a while. Won several foot races against quick chelsea players. Fingers crissed his injury is clearing up and if he signs on a oerm we see more if this bree not the ine from the last 6 or so weeks
Lloyd Jones - great player for us
Kelman - still improving, he and Leaburn look good together
Overall disappointing to not really be in the game much after they scored and felt thwir first goal was a bit weak, they coups have been down to 10 although others with better eyesight say that would have been harsh, we shouod have been better for their 2nd and 3rd but they had other opportunities. Looked a pen to me which could have taken it to 2-3 and their oen wasnt a pen.
2-3 would have been a fairer result but 1-5 i dont really care other than the injury to Bell and the hope TCs was just cramp and he came off as a precaution

Interesting post match analysis from Kim Grant, which was pretty much how I saw the game too.My honest thoughts watching my former club Charlton Athletic FC tonight 😫🤬🙌First of all, I can’t fault the effort. The lads worked and tried. But effort on its own isn’t enough, especially in a cup game at home, in front of the biggest crowd we’ve had for a long time.We gave Chelsea Football Club far too much respect in the first half. We played too deep, sat off them, and reacted instead of being brave on the ball. I fully respect the level of the opponent, but that can’t mean fear.Apart from Leaburn, who carried real threat, and Mannion in goal, we didn’t do enough to hurt them. We used a lot of energy, but not in an effective way.The stats tell the story. We barely had the ball, Chelsea created far better chances, and our collective defending — especially recovery from midfield — was poor. We spent most of the game chasing. From around 70 minutes, the energy dropped completely. That’s what happens when you press without structure or cohesion, and when transitions after losing the ball aren’t right. Counter-attacking was almost non-existent.Defensively, it was all over the place. Standing off players instead of pressing the ball. Half the team stepping out, half dropping in. No togetherness. When you look at where we are in the league, defending like that explains why results have been difficult.Set pieces were another big problem. The defensive line was a mess — half going out, half going in. No clarity, no control. At this level, you can’t defend set pieces like that and expect to survive.Going forward, we were too predictable. I didn’t see overlaps, third-man runs, rotation, or real link play around the box. We played far too deep, which made everything harder. There were spaces to get on the ball and hurt them, but we didn’t recognise or use the pockets. This is a cup game. A one-off. Whether you lose 10–0 or 1–0, you go for it. You press high with balance and cohesion, play on the front foot, show bravery, want the ball in tight areas, and try to control the game. At home, in front of your fans, you have to want to impose yourself.I’m not questioning the desire — the lads worked. But the set-up, defensive organisation, and lack of cohesion made it very difficult. There are good players in that squad. Real potential. But unless the team defends and plays together properly, results like this won’t be a surprise28

I can only think that the area behind was for wheelchair and it allowed a clear line of sight.IR94 said:Any idea why a section of seats in the away end was covered over and not used?1 -

We're arguably still in that run. It's 1 win now in how many games, with that win being a narrow one over a poor Oxford side at home 6 games ago. So a 5-1 loss, whilst doing themselves proud, was quite possibly the last thing we needed last night confidence wise. I'd have taken a scrappy 1-0 defeat last night and played poorly.FreshHaddock said:1-5 is an awful scoreline, but I'm not annoyed with how the Addicks played this evening. They did themselves proud in my opinion. What pisses me off, is if they had played like that through that run of terrible results, well, it wouldn't have been a run of terrible results!
Let's see what the reaction is next saturday. 🤞0 -

@golfaddick spurs was 1-1 at WHL and the second snow affected game was at the Valley and was 1985 winners had Liverpool live away on the Sunday (which would have been massive for us )
@Raith_C_Chattonell think you asked about cup shocks we done Blackburn in the fa cup (were they prem league champions)and Sheffield Wednesday (i think) when they were prem and us second tier
@Off_it quite A few Chelsea I looked to see who had a photo with hasselbank as the gauge .
No one jumped up when they scored so all on best behaviour I had 3 Chelsea youngsters in my group and they knew to stfu .
lounge had 140 ish against Coventry and nearer 220 tonight .
hopefully the ill fella is fine but his injury time cost us 😉
as usual the failure of the scum and palace brings the only footballing joy but knowing palace can mix it with Chelsea’s first team makes me feel sick and confirms why I can never watch a game with them until the last few mins when they’re losing , light years away from us .
i’m jut a miserable twunt but all the daytrippers singing the play off songs “the reds are going up” yep right o can clear off , musical chairs and fannying around , roads busy as fuck that late on and just people , nope not for me
championship will do , wanky kick off times and tourists and half and half scarves not for me , the kids better not have got me one but there was some disappearing when we got to the ground .
give me 538 Charlton freaks at a snowy freezing Blackburn away Over the circus and fireworks and lighshow gimmicks
some YouTuber was sat near us apparently the kids recognised him big John a goalkeeper
Chelsea had two (motor vehicle) coaches their entourage was ridiculous more hangers on than you could believe , they asked for 20 of their back room staff to have access to the tunnel , they asked for a 55 inch plasma in the changing room bunch of cnuts fuck em .
Roman Abramovich , fuck off putins puppet and the club built on Russian blood money
fucking hate chelsea

One of the benefits of turnstiles in the west not being open, and the subsequent very long queues, was that I missed the pre match “entertainment”.
Oh for the days of a marching band 😊.

They had him standing on the pitch in the centre circle for quite a few minutes waiting to be interviewed.aliwibble said:

A good effort. Gave them a bit too much respect in the first half but gave it a go after the break. Coventry got buffeted out the way for the 2nd goal but wouldn’t have happened if he’d been goalside of Tosin. Poor positioning!Mannion unlucky with the 3rd as could only react late as the ball went under Lloyds feetOverall I think the main reason we got well beaten was the new manager bounce. There was no chance of catching them not being up for it and despite including a lot of fringe players, those players would no doubt be regular starters in most prem teams1

Focus now must be to get some effective bodies in by the middle of the week at the latest.2

My point is that he doesn’t need to “send messages” through an interview, and therefore he wasn’t.Sword65pf said:
Talking about needing a good window isn’t reviewing the game he did review the game by expressing his disappointment about how we defended the 2nd and 3rd goals, so what’s you’re point.SporadicAddick said:
Or maybe just reviewing the game, and not “sending messages” to anyone…Sword65pf said:NJ in his post match interview is either sending a message to the fans to say don’t worry we know we need players and we’re working on it, or he’s sending a message to the owners to get the money out, hope it’s the former. The club are in a good position to consolidate this season but they need to act aggressively on it.0 -
Can’t disagree with anything from Kim Grant and saying the scoreline flattered them just because they scored the last 2 late just meant we were just keeping it respectable up to 90 minutes, it could have been a lot worse.
Hopefully the extra income from last night might get us a couple in we are desperately short of bodies at the back and quality in midfield, he has to
get some through the door this week
Mannion, Jones, Bell, Bree, TC and Miles were admirable the rest looked totally out of their depth and when you think our league one side didn’t look that bad at United 3 years ago it doesn’t look great
Just pick up the points we need at home 🙏2 -
In the cold light of day, and having read all the other posts.
I get what people are saying about Chelsea's posession and the number of shots, but I still felt the scoreline flattered them. Perhaps if it had been 1-5 at 80 minutes I might have felt differently? Two goals in injury time will always make me feel a bit hard done by.
Two "maybe" penalty shouts, he gives theirs but not ours. Theirs absolutely wasn't - Mannion touched the ball. Jones? If VAR was available that would have been one for the ref to take a look at again. One of the few times the TNT Chelsea fan club said something I agreed with. We saw four or five angles in quick succession and they and I thought that was all that was needed to send it back to the ref, it took seconds, but we all knew VAR would have been pawing over that for minutes before making a decision. Why must it take so long? As a Charlton fan, I saw their player get a foot to the ball but barge Jones over, whether Jones stubbed his toe is irrelevant, it was a clumsy attempt to get the ball from behind. Outside the area, many, many times you see a free kick given for that whether the tackler has touched the ball or not.
I still say playing the first team was correct, despite Bell's injury, but delighted that the naysayers can say I told you so, I am sure it has pleased them no end.
Were we too passive in the first half? That Chelsea played the ball around in their half for a full two minutes from kick off showed me that their game plan was to draw us out and exploit the gaps once they opened. So maybe NJ realised that would be their MO and told our players not to get caught by it? Just a thought.
It was an ideal scenario for Rosenior, he could play a mostly reserve team that was still worth more than Mayfair, and nobody was going to criticise him. All those players were guaranteed to give it their all to impress the boss in his first game and prove they should be in the starting line up. Anyone gets injured? Well it's a benchwarmer anyway. Charlton take the lead? Well here's Park Lane and Oxford Street waiting in the wings. Unless we turned into Real Madrid for the night, with no points at stake, he couldn't lose.
The TV coverage took me back twenty years. Playing any of the big six and seeing how completely and utterly skewed towards the money club it all is. Two former Chelsea players as pundits, only Rosenior interviewed, and as for the commentary - I would bet that Chelsea TV's coverage would have been more balanced than that - seriously. Don't they get that outside the half a million glory hunting Asians watching, everyone else (bar Millwall & Palace) wants the underdog to win?
Anyway, onward and (hopefully) upwards. Popping over for the two games next week, so fingers crossed...12 -
Agree with this, Mannion had loads to do and made some good saves but he can’t kick the ball properlysam3110 said:
Pushed at least 3 or 4 shots back into the danger zone, just like Kaminski has done in the past.cafc4life said:Mannion should start on Saturday. He was excellent tonight
Lots of glazing of his performance tonight, he made a few decent saves but he doesn't look any better than Kaminski IMO, they're both bang average
even in the warm up he almost managed to smash a ball into Nathan being interviewed in the centre circle when he was actually aiming a good 20/30 yards to the right.
he did nothing to show he should replace Kaminski0 -
Was the pyro show us or TNT?0
