Now that there has been a reshuffle with the trust board hopefully we will see various things change.

Everyone interested in transparency needs to read this, it is disappointing to read how the Club has changed the format.

We can combat the “chilling effect” by submitting sharp coherent questions on non-football matters, e.g.

    - the policing issues of recent weeks, options re dealing with away fans, or more specifically Millwall.

    - whether we are competitive in the league regarding  the fitness and medical set-up. ( if we ask why Will Abbott left we will just get an answer straight out of LinkedIn)

    - the more people submit questions the more chance they get some kind of answer.

    It’s a long term project.

The board are fully committed to the club and NJ.

We have to live within our means.

    Staying up is the priority.

    Only the right recruits.

We are hoping to resolve the CEO position sooner rather than later.

Still things behind the scenes to fix but we are getting there.

We need to do better in the match day experience.

Please contact your fan liaison contacts with any issues.

The Millwall thing was beyond our control and we acknowledge it wasn’t good. Hopefully in future it can be more like the Chelsea arrangements in future.

    Anything else?

    😉🤔🙂

Yes, we're aware milk doesn't go in an Americano, it won't happen again.

But who will ask the CAST question about “why would someone become a Charlton fan…all together, all different etc “ ?🤔😉😆

    Hilarious.

By the way what happened to the Fan Advisory Board? Or whatever it was called...does it still exist, if so where can I find out what it has been doing, and with what results?

We don't have a Fan Advisory Board, we have an Advisory Board (yes, there is a difference I promise!). You can always ask that as a question on Thursday

Great. So this Board was set up. To great excitement and some bitchiness we fans participated in a democratic vote for two fans who would represent us. And now in order just to find out whether it has ever actually done anything or is trying to do anything I first have to ask in another "fans forum" whether it still exists?

    And that's all good?

The Advisory Board (Stakeholder, not Fans) consists of four representatives for fans (2 x CAST and two independently elected) two representatives from CACT (one of which is Chair), a former players rep and a Sponsor/Hospitality rep. So 50% are fans reps.

Their role is to advise the Club, not to make decisions in terms of the Club's operation - it is then entirely up to the Club what they do with that advice and how any actions as a result of the advice are implemented. All members of the Advisory Board are also subject to Non-Disclosure Agreements (as is appropriate).

If any fans want to know the nature of the work of the Advisory Board and content of any advice given then the Club should be asked - as suggested by @fenaddick above.

Both CACT reps, are Addicks and could potentially answer your question @pragueaddick?

Equally, you could also ask the two elected fans- one of which is a Fan Advocate (appearing on the MtD show)

As is the repetitive answer, fans could/should always use fans@cafc.co.uk as your first port of call 🫡

Why do they always hold these meetings during the transfer window. Surely it would be better once the window is closed as they can say this is what we have done, instead of saying vague statements like we are working hard to get in better players, and then the next opportunity to talk to them is in the next window so we just go round in circles.

True would be better after the window so they could have an analysis on the window and better conversation on the future of the season etc,but as you say the vague doing our best answer is easier to give out and I'm sure they are but their best and what some fans expect might not align possibly.

I don't want to "register an issue".

I was asked to vote for two fans to join this Board. The election was conducted seriously, and all the candidates made pretty high-brow claims about their intentions. The fans who won the vote did so because they gave the impression that they might prioritise issues that some felt CAST did not. And I voted for them myself, because I thought it would not be a bad thing if different legitimately elected voices were heard by the club. Since then, nothing. Nic, nada, nothing. At the very least the Club website should have a section where it answers my simple question: "what have you done, what are you doing?". I don't have this problem with CAST at all. I'm getting a weekly email digest, and the website thoroughly explains what it (and only it, from a fans POV) is doing about the current most difficult non-footie issue - policing- and a whole load of other things.

As for the meeting tomorrow, I don't suggest the proposed format is an existential crisis because I feel that the Club is in very good hands generally. However I smell a nasty niff of corporate control-freakery creeping in. The priority seems to be slick presentation above genuine openness. Someone thinks it's important to "control the narrative". The best way to push back (another grim PR phrase, sorry) will be to flood the meeting with sharp relevant questions. I hope as many of you as possible will do that - and maybe cross-post them here.

I made the mistake of reading the "Fan Engagement Plan" that @valleynick66 posted earlier. It's just made for Hugh Bonneville in his W1A / TwentyTwelve role.

So there is a Supporter Liaison Office named Isabelle Rogerson. She is a full time employee of the club and apparently answers that fans@ mailbox. She "triages fans’ issues". You wot?

There are two "Fan Advocates", Lucy Bishop and Lewis Catt. They are not to be confused with the two fans whom we elected to the Advisory Board, because of course the Advisory Board is not a Fan Advisory Board as @fenaddick likes to remind me. However, there is good reason for confusion here, as you will read below. They have their own email box (
fanadviser@) If I recall correctly both are volunteers who have been appointed by the club. But I see no information there on what exactly is expected of them.

The Advisory Board is where the two fans sit whom we voted in. They are Jon Whitfield and ...Lewis Catt😂. They are "democratically mandated". What the mandate is, is not stated. I voted on the basis of what they wrote for the election, but I have no idea whether they are making good on what they wrote - or whether they have any chance to do so.

To be clear, the fans named all seem to me to be good people and they are giving up their time because they love the Club. As of course do the members of the board of CAST. But, to put it politely, that  looks unwieldy and confusing. To call it a "strategic" approach is an offence to the word "strategy". The word is often abused by charlatans in my experience.

Put it to the test for yourself. What non-football  issue bothers you most at this time? For me it's the Millwall policing fiasco. Are you aware of the statements or positions on it of any of those people  ? I am fully aware of the CAST position, it has been clear on the website, is available for everyone to read, and it makes clear that they remain active on it.

The rest? I am not aware of a peep.

I believe Evie has left the club and there is a process underway to replace. It is a concern that our club finds it difficult to recruit and retain an SLO. CAST benchmarked the role across other clubs in the Championship and shared the findings with the club. Many of them have long term incumbents - often fans who have chosen to take on the role professionally. I don’t believe our club are prepared to pay much above a basic / starter salary for this role, which makes that difficult.

Why do they always hold these meetings during the transfer window. Surely it would be better once the window is closed as they can say this is what we have done, instead of saying vague statements like we are working hard to get in better players, and then the next opportunity to talk to them is in the next window so we just go round in circles.
I think you have answered your own question there mate!
  • I made the mistake of reading the "Fan Engagement Plan" that @valleynick66 posted earlier.

They have their own email box (fanadviser@) If I recall correctly both are volunteers who have been appointed by the club.

Many thanks for posting this, PA.

A job well done , that needed to be done for those who were unaware of the complexity of this Fan Engagement Plan should they ever need to refer to it.

How much time & effort went into this I know not, but the outcome is clunky, confusing & IMO, not fit for purpose.

Far too many cooks with no positive feedback to check whether the "dish" served was cordon bleu or consigned to the bin ....

It is pointless asking any questions about transfers and injuries etc. Just allows waffle and non answers akin to the weekly NJ briefings.

If people are interested the questions need to be pointed and closed to elicit specific answers to issues or queries prople may have to mitigate the inevitable corporate waffle.

    Maybe things like:

is the investor board composition changing

What other infrastructure is being invested in

    will a CEO be appointed

will more be spent on transfers next season

How much will ticket prices increase by next season

Did the lights / advertising upgrade represent pure cash spend by the owners or was it funded from a combination of advertising deals / grants ?

    Hopefully you get my drift.
Specific questions rather than broad topics and football management matters they can’t comment on.
