You can criticise (are we allowed?) the players, manager, recruitment, tactics, team selection (tonight wtf?) but ultimately it boils down to one major factor - the squad is just not good enough for The Championship.
The amount of money we spent you think there would be some fight, poorly spent budget o no players that aren’t even in the squad. Should’ve brought in less for more at a higher quality
When I saw our activity in the transfer market in summer, I think it's safe to say that the goal was to hopefully just about stay up or, failing that, keep most of the squad and bounce straight back up.

We have to hope that one of either Blackburn Rovers or Portsmouth do worse than us for the rest of the season. Otherwise we're gone.

Unfortunately, I think we'll be lucky to get more than two points before March.
West brom look dodgy too fortunately

I worked out after the game I've only got about 937 weeks of work left before retirement. That lifted my spirits mate  👍

Looking at the fixtures coming up across the league over the next few weeks, it's likely we'll be in the bottom 3 by the time we play our next home game against QPR. Unless we find more than a point from the next two away games.

We're playing without purpose and without knowing our best eleven - all of which have nothing to do players not being good enough. We're not giving ourselves our best chance.

Not sure how or when things turn round, but they have to, urgently.

    Here's a radical thought.

If we are to persist in playing a system that requires wingbacks sign a couple who can perform the roll.

If we don't have decent wingbacks in place then for God's sake change the system.
And if you want to give up possession and counter attack, maybe coach attacking with some purpose and speed.

It would be interesting to know how much time they actually wasted - I seemed to spend a lot of the game looking at their goalie messing around and kicking his post .

This is the exact post I was going to do last night but held off! I just think he has no other plan up his sleeve and fear that what we saw last night is as good as its going to get?
Wish I could be a bit more upbeat but...
Ah- well off we toddle down to the toolbox for a spannering then eh?

In terms of the dark arts I’m more concerned we don’t do them well

TC wins man of the match again in the lounge
I get he scored, but his body language and lack of running near the end of the first half was nothing less than disgraceful
Body language? His body language has never changed. He’s a shy lad, and he’s never demonstrative.
His lack of awareness for their second goal was what was worrying me.
Had we played in the second half like we played in the first I’d now be very worried.
I think we all know this issue. With our best players fully fit we can be a lower mid side. With injuries we’ll struggle.
Survival is everything this season. I won’t boo the team because I don’t think it increases our chance of survival.

I’m not sure what game Jones was watching. Saying we were unlucky really? We were abysmal. I like him but let’s be honest gaffer.

The two games at The Valley in the last four days have seen more opposition red cards (three) than home goals (two).

Leaving aside the farcical lack of a left back for 4 months, the biggest issue for me is our turgid, and at times completely ineffective attacking play. Looking at the team and tactics out there, especially in the first half, what was the thinking and how did NJ think we were going to score a goal, other than from a set piece or giving it to TC and hoping he could do something?

Two big strikers together, so who is going to provide the crosses? On the right we had Ramsay at right wing back, who seemed to have a nosebleed once he crosses the half way line. Not once did he drive forward towards the byline to whip in a cross across the box. Instead he crossed from much deeper positions, a much easier ball to defend. On the left, TC is an inverted winger, so instead of getting to the byline to cross, he much prefers to cut inside, onto his stronger right foot.

If you are going to have 2 big lumps in the middle, you mainly need right footed crosses from the right, and left footed crosses from the left, delivered across the goal to give them something to attack.

On the left, at least TC tried to attack, and other players helped him by joining in and creating passing moves. On the right, Clarke came on and got forward well (when Ramsay gave him the ball) but so often was by himself, with no help at all. It's as if NJ has told the players not to attack down the right, and just rely on TC.

Do we practice attacking throw ins? When we have throws ins in decent attacking positions, so often we throw the ball backwards, that player is pressed so he passes back again, and from a decent position, it's back with Kaminski. You can't be offside from a throw in, yet we never have players ahead of the thrower to exploit this, and stretch the opposition defence.

It's hardly surprising our strikers score very few goals.
100% - i do NOT blame the strikers. They get zero service. Midfield is our main problem and has been all season

If NJ/Owners do no not strengthen our midfield by the end of the month, we will go down.

I thought TC was excellent both going forwards and tracking back. Do I wish he could consistently have a bit more killer instinct and end product…yeah, but last night for once our big problem wasn’t really that position imo.

I’m also in the minority it seems by thinking Dykes looked really decent and the Leaburn Dykes pairing, while not amazing, was literally the least of our problems.

Our defence, usually our foundation, was a disaster zone. I guess he was injured but Jones made mistake after mistake, misplaced passes and got bossed by their massive number 7.

Ramsay was absolutely awful, scuffing 10 yard passes and looked completely devoid of the confidence we know him for. Offered almost nothing for most of the game and looked like an accident waiting to happen.

Not made my mind up on Clarke, he seemed full of enthusiasm but made some pretty weird decisions and just looked like a CB that had somehow found himself on the wing. Crossing wasn’t too bad.

Macca just isn’t at the level.

Why would he not play JRC in a game where Derby packed their own half and we needed a bit of cleverness to unpick it? Anderson is literally a body in that midfield and offers so little going forward. It’s a shame, but I think League 1 or even 2 will be his level.

There's a whiff of relegation about this team now. I'm hopeful that we can add a few quality players to give us a decent shot of survival. Must strengthen at LB and CM.

It’s already been said but what concerns me most is looking at where our next 3 points is coming from. We need about 4/5 more wins to achieve the average points finish for safety (which isn’t guaranteed to be 50).

With the way we are playing atm I am filled with no confidence we can achieve that unless everyone we play until now and the end of the season plays with 9 men.

Confidence is looking like a massive issue with our squad at the moment and with the form we are on it’s not looking like it will improve any time soon.

I really hope I’m proven wrong and we pick up some form and confirm safety in this league as that was the priority at the start of the season but we are definitely one of the worst teams in the division over the last couple of months which does not bode well for us.

Macca makes us one dimensional, having two target men up front makes us static, having no creative players in midfield makes us create no chances. We have no good wide players who can cross a ball, we have no good set piece takers. Where are the goals miraculously going to come from.

First half was awful so was the line up. Can’t play Dykes and Leaburn up top together. Second half better but too little too late.
Shades of Jason Lee and Leaburn!

I've become immune to it over the years. If we win the Saturday home game, it's almost certain we won't win the Tuesday night home game.

You'll be alright on Saturday afternoon, once we've beaten Miiiii........

I feel what we need more than anything is a mid season break. Schedule the o/s Pompey and Stoke games for later in season, hope there is horrendous weather to get the QPR game cancelled and we’ve created a break gap between 31st Jan and 21st Feb.

Give the players a week away to forget all this, reset and go again

PWR. I thought TK should have come out and cleared the ball to snuff out the danger before their second.

Under Jones our best runs of form have come with a settled team. The constant chopping and changing at the moment - some of it enforced by injury - makes it clear that Jones doesn't know his best team. Some players need a run in the team to feel trusted and for their confidence to grow. I know bad performances mean players may get dropped, but I would prefer to see a settled team of the players we know can perform at this level.

Like others I am miffed by the disappearance of JRC, Apter and Docherty. While I don't think JRC will play like he did against Oxford every week, he showed enough to be given a longer run than he got; he was also purchased with the promise of versatility and yet I don't remember seeing him play more than a few minutes at RWB? I wonder if we may see him there as the season goes on.

I think Anderson has a role to play and wasn't as bad as some are making out, but he isn't ready to be starting at this level regularly.

Dykes appears very one dimensional and I don't think he's particularly good at that skill, anyway. Hopefully Fullah is trusted as the season progresses. We only need to be the fourth worst team in the league and I still think that is achievable. Crowd were a lot better last night and the effort shown by the players in the second half has hopefully shown them / Jones that we need to start games with that ambition and drive. We no longer have the defensive unit to sit back and soak up pressure like we did earlier in the year. But we DO have the attacking talent to scare teams. Let's give it a go!

The kind of game that makes you think yep we're 100% in a relegation scrap now. Derby were bang average, defended deep and hard to break down, not much going forward but still we concede two. What happened to the resilient team that kept clean sheets? Saturday will be horrific because as much as it pains me to say Millwall are a free flowing attacking team who score goals 4-0 them is my prediction.

Norwich are picking up form and Pompey are spending. My guess is the third relegation spot (Sheff and Oxford are doomed) is between us, Rovers and West Brom. This window is now massive we need a LWB and midfielder

Just on TC, I can see him becoming a bit of an Albie Morgan with the fans - flashes of brilliance and the odd great goal, mixed in with a fair bit of frustrating mediocrity.

Personally think he’s better coming on off the bench.
  • In the game we had two free kicks about 10 yards outside the opposition box.  Both times we played the ball backwards.  Can't remember seeing that tactic ever before. A bit of Hylton genius?

Wrong selection at the start, better second 1/2 when Clarke and Fullah came on. Too late mate
We won't win games if Nathan has no idea after over 1/2 a season what is his best line up

He should have magicked it into their goal as well, and brought about world peace, and cured cancer. We have a lot of problems right now and TK isn't one
