Six spinners (Rashid, Ahmed, Dawson, Jacks, Bethell and Root). Is this the most number of spinners we've ever had in an England team?
If that's not the case then I am happy to have a bet with anyone that we have never bowled four spinners in the first dozen overs of an international.

Crawley out injured for the second ODI so Ahmed to open
Fake injury, so Zak can watch the Millwall game  ;)

Big wicket of mendis due to presumably a bit of a brain freeze/communication problem from the Sri lankens as it was a run out.

    72- 3

And the 6th spinner to be utilised. That has to be a record for England.

Asked BBC this question, (I did ask any international match but they've just gone for ODI) they must of seen as just 5 minutes later they wrote on their website this...

"This is the first time in ODIs that England have employed six spin-bowling options and only the fifth time by a non-Asian side in ODI history."
  • Why are we warming up for a T20 World Cup by playing a 50-over series?
    2.5 games instead of 1?

Great delivery on Ahmed by De Silva

Can't say anything about Ahmed as opener. Think he needs the next ODI and hope he shows a bit of what he can do in that position. Unless they go back to Zak again.

    20 - 1

Anyway from the den let's go to the heat of Colombo

Root sounds like he's come out to play

    104 for 3 Root on 42

    116 needed from 28 overs

    Root gets his half century

  • Need Root to stay there. If he goes, I'm much less confident.

    Scotland officially replace Bangladesh

Pakistan are thinking about supporting Bangladesh and they might possibly pull out as well.

India moan and they get to play 2000km away from host nation last year yet all Bangladesh wanted to do is play at the other host nation in this tournament.

    Well we win

Brook in his press conference has possibly upset the Sri lankens by saying that was the worst pitch he has ever played on

It was a poor pitch. Without Root we would have struggled to make that target.

Superb 100 for Root. Such a master in Sri Lanka.

    Root with a sublime century.

Brook has got himself a half century just before getting over the line with a six.

    269/3   5 overs left

What a pleasant change to see England batting responsibly and not going crash bang wallop and not seeing out the 50 overs

It's been a decent series for England this, in that in each game they've batted better, showing the benefit of acclimatising to local conditions.

Brook about to get his century.

Pitch different to how it's been in the previous games. Not a huge amount of turn.
Sri lankens in the field look a bit weary. Maybe they can't deal with the heat and humidity.

Superbly paced innings by Root giving a platform for Brook to show his incredible hitting talent.

Sam Curran looks like his melting out there then the camera turns to some bloke wearing a giant lion costume dancing around.

Great to see the group booking Saga holiday crowd enjoy the Root and Brooke partnership where they crucified the Sri Lankan bowlers in their own unique way.

Jacks gets the wicket. Just loops up and lands straight to Ahmed. Poor from mishara.

Brook proves to be a 1 day supremo (just superb, destructive batting) now he needs to adjust his game for the tests

Sri Lanka playing Bazball. Massive sixes, but 3 players holing out.

Overton with figures of 2-48 off 4 overs proving that some wickets are expensive to buy!
