We played 442 second half today and still got dismantled. It’s not the magic wand some people think.

But in fairness, they probably havent trained for 442. Just a mad desperate decision mid game by Jones

But you have almost no way of knowing whether we’ve trained 442 or not, unless you have a mole at Sparrows Lane.

Question should be why are we still playing a formation that relies on LWB when we haven't had a serviceable one for months?

Have we had a serviceable left back available to switch the formation?

Maybe because we have only one centre back that can play in a back 4

We aren't solving the left side of defence problem this season.
    Close the thread.

If you’re going to rudely call someone a mug, then at least prove you’re not one yourself with an argument as to why you believe it to be a ’shit line up.’

4-4-2 won’t work for us. A 2 man midfield when nearly every team plays with 3 in there would just mean we get overrun. Unless we completely abandon our press and sit behind the ball instead then us playing a 4-4-2 would see us carved open even more easily than we are at the moment

I actually thought Chambers looked decent in the first half yesterday.

Assuming we stick with a five (and we really can’t play a back four as we don’t have a good enough CB to partner L. Jones whilst Bell is out) I think I’d go:

    Apter
    Burke/Clarke (can Clarke play CB?)
    Jones
    Gillesphey
    Chambers

Ramsay needs some time out, his performances have not been good lately and yesterday was the absolute nadir.

Agree with this but also don’t think Bell is a back 4 centre back at all. We just don’t have the players to play a back 4

I fear you are right. And if you are, that means we’ve basically left ourselves where we are incapable of playing a back four, which is the most standard defensive formation. Complete negligence in that case.

I think Ramsay/Clarke, Burke, Jones, Bell would work but that can’t be plan A if it relies on Burke and Bell starting every game

Think the answer is we need another proper LWB another LCB and send Macca back to Plymouth

Would you trust Burke in that formation? Lot of pressure on him and I’m not certain he’s up to it.

I do like seeing 3 at the back but it puts an extra emphasis on the wingers doing their bit defensively. Definitely not a strong point of Campbell or Apters game. Playing Clarke as a wingback offers absolutely nothing offensively. This is a proper mess now.

I don’t think that’s true, he bombs up the pitch but his teammates ignore him which isn’t his fault

It's testament to how crap our midfield is that WE had that extra man in the middle yesterday, and yet we were the ones getting overrun.

The only way is to move the goals to the left hand touch line, problem solved.

Yes but the majority of people on this site wanted that, and applauded NJ for doing so.

I know I’m cleverer than the majority of people (I’m no relation of Doucher’s )
