  • Another reason for signing him on loan, is if we plan for him to be "competition" with Chambers for Left Wing-Back, then it might not make sense getting someone on a perm... Especially with Edwards returning in the summer, and us not knowing which Division we'll be in... An ideal scenario is we're in the Championship, and Edwards comes back, because we know all know who'll be first choice.
Gives us a chance to look at Fevrier before assessing the situation properly in the summer. I also imagine its one reason why we potentialy didn't want to waste £1m on Mumba this month for example, when it was that sort of value on someone who is neither being brought in as a "First Teamer" or for "Potential"

Has been kept out of Stockport’s starting line-up this season by a talent called Tayo Edun.
What the fuck are we doing here
There is no truth to the post you’re quoting, just someone trying to get a few LOLs.

Edun plays LWB and Stockport have never played Fevrier there in two years.

Does he have a very hard shot?
Is Sandgard jnr our next signing  :o

Sounds like a punt then.  Not seen it in league one but expected to hit the ground running and deliver in a seemingly potential relegation dogfight in the Championship.  Let's hope he's up to the challenge.

A complete punt, like the two we’ve loaned out. Not categorically better Nathan. Shitshow this is.
All signings are punts though. Carey was a free transfer, Small was rescued from the scrapheap, Ramsay was from L2 Harrogate, Jones a free from Cambridge. Our best signings are usually the unheralded cheapest ones, it's the ones we pay fees for that haven't worked out so far

He has spent most of the season on the bench there by the looks. Only started 7 games
Looking at his stats he’s featured in 21 games, but only got more than 59 mins in 4 games.

    Its all very strange
Sounds like Chuks. Needs his minutes managed & cant last 90 mins.
Or our young scouser that we've just signed.

In pure squad/depth terms, with Godden now back and Dykes signed, swapping this guy for Olaofe makes sense

but it feels like a huge punt as a player who can't get in a L1 team if this is what we are signing with the aim of him being a game changing addition of quality

and yet another loan - you have arrived at Desperation Station

we'll see. here's hoping he has an impact like Small did when he signed - I remember thinking he would be shite and a nobody random signing then he turned up at that Bolton away game and was unreal

Chuffed with this.  He’s actually very decent.  Could be any number of reasons why he hasn’t played much at Stockport this season Or he could just be home sick a bit like Rob Apter maybe wants to go back up north.  I have had an eye on him for awhile and he is fast and strong and could give us something different.

Give him a chance.  I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the fact there is no option to buy, it’s probably just Stockport keeping their options open. should they get promoted

If he plays well and they don’t go up, he will join us I expect.  Sounds to me like he is more suited to playing as a wing back than Apter who is not strong enough.
So in reality we should've bought him for 1.5m instead of Tanto and then saved 2m on Apter?

And spend the 2m that we saved on Lyndon Dykes…

Well obviously, we're a promoted side who can't spend what the ridiculous teams who were promoted with us can. Did you expect us to be splashing out huge fees on categorically better players, because that costs £20m+ per player at this level. We were always going to be fighting to stay up. It's beside the point anyway - we have some players who have proven they are Championship level and they combined probably cost us less than £1m. The fee and the history of the player isn't necessarily an indicator of quality, it's if they fit into the way we play.
  • We need wing back cover and someone that can attack but in true charlton life fashion, not this wing back who can attack?

@swisdom is a scout and rates him and the signing has pleased a former charlton wing back.  I'm disappointed that Apter has gone but we have someone in that position that is more suited to the way the manager wants us to play.  It gives us more options from the bench where fresh legs with pace to burn can worry tired defences.

I know this goes against the Charlton Life rules but can we please see him in a Charlton shirt before all the negative comments

Completely agree. The poor lad’s going to look on social media and see nothing but abuse and stick from fans of the club he’s just joined.

He’s a sensible signing. We need defensive cover and options. He’s versatile, can play both wings. He can get back and get forward, which we’ll need because injuries are inevitable.

Hes far more suited to our current set up than Tanto or Apter

Not loaning out two key summer signings in January without (as of yet) replacing them with better.

Well promotion of course!!  If all the signings we make are punts and that’s how you approach the championship, then we will get what we deserve.

Would you rather they stayed and not played?

Swapping them both for two players (Dykes and Fevrier) who will actually impact the first team makes sense to me.

I asked two mates who are Colchester fans what they thought of him. I got two quite contrasting messages back:
    • Jayden Fevrier... quality player, fleet of foot, decent cross. Can play as an emergency wing back if required but better on the wing!
    • Too good for League 2 but Stockport seem to think he is not good enough for League 1
First answer makes it sound like he's exactly what we need. The second sounds exactly what we don't need. Welcome Jayden, please be more like the first answer.

He asked what we were expecting.  I did expect to be in the bottom three before we kicked a ball and even when we were flying high in the playoffs kept saying to people at work and friends commenting on how well we were doing that all i cared about was staying up. They seemed bemused at the time because of the league position.  But it was obvious as bookies favourites and the fact that it's a tough tough step up that we would struggle and battle relegation.

What I didn't expect was that our recruitment would be so misjudged that we're heading into the last third of the season on a downward trajectory whilst getting rid of two expensive signings who've either not delivered and/ or barely got a look in and are (so far) replacing them with punts.

I think there are two aspects to this, the Tanto one, and the Bree one.
It might just be the case that Bree's loan wages could equate to Coady's loan wage.

To be pedantic, both of your mates appear to agree that he was excellent at Colchester. How many Stockport games did your second mate watch?

I agree with that FA and I think a Marquee signing or any signing on a permanent in this window is a non starter. We would be stuck with those contracts if relegated and that would hold the club back as it prepares a promotion challenge.

Hard to get excited by someone who effectively has been a L1 squad player this season. When signing players from the division below you in January, generally you'd hope to be prising away one of their top players, someone their fans would be gutted to lose...

I felt that the poster I responded to inferred that the reason we were in the bottom six is because we spent money on Tanto and Apter.

It was fairly obvious from the beginning of the summer we would have one of the smallest budgets and it would take some very impressive effort to not be exactly where we are. Could the money have been spent better? Well yeah I think that’s fair to say now, but no transfer is ever a guarantee.

We’ve replaced two punts with two different punts. That’s just how it goes for clubs like ours sometimes.

They just sold 10% of their club for £48m. We’re not playing the same game as them unfortunately.
