Jayden Fevrier Signs On Loan from Stockport County

They gain promotion, Tanto looks a world beater again and we can either decide to keep him or sell him to those clubs, including Stockport, who would love to have him in their team next season. Pretty smart bit of business by Charlton if you ask me 😉oohaahmortimer said:Messaged my Stockport county mate and got back “🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣⬇️⬆️🤣🤣🤣🤣 a pleasure doing business with you ££££££££”
Personally, looking back I think we took him on a season too early.1 -
I dont follow other teams or know anything about the players we have signed. But all of them will have a point to make.
Lyndon Dykes will be desperate to play in the world cup for Scotland,Clarke looks good and will only get better,Coady was an England international 4 years ago,he is 32,not old for a CB,he may be slow, but show me a rapid CB,Is Harry Maguire quick,Jake Cooper,Lloyd has often been done for pace,Lewis Dunk is not the quickest, but what a defender.Luke Chambers has been around the Liverpool squad for a time, seemingly held back by injuries,he is 21,I think that they feel he is worth persevering with. There is a gap at Liverpool at LB,now that Andy Robertson seems to be slowing down, just maybe Chambers can make a show at Charlton and put himself in the frame. So forever the optimist,I await with baited breath any further developments today.1 -
It seems pretty likely to me that Fevrier is an Apter or Tanto replacement. Which means he won’t be a starter most weeks and his role will be as a ‘game changer’. What worked very well for us at the start of the year was bringing on pace and power around 60-70 mins against tired defences. Fevrier is not the type of player I’d want to see coming on as an opposition defender. It seems like he is a bit more versatile than both of those two as well.Let’s give him a chance.9

Hence is the problem we need players in the first 11 not bench warmers im sure he will start tho. I hear he is another sunday morning club guy.elbiglad said:It seems pretty likely to me that Fevrier is an Apter or Tanto replacement. What is wrong with questioning some of the decisions made by the club?
Fevrier may well turn out a good loan, but it looks like we heard similar things about Hernandez, Roussillon and a few others we bought last summer.
Our track record with recent transfers is not that great. We need a quality left back by the weekend or none of this will matter, as we will still have Macca on the left being overrun by opposition attackers.
Plainly obvious what we need and that’s all that fans are saying.

I’m glad you’ve written that because up to now I was completely bemused by this, not least because he sees himself as a winger, just as Apter does, and TC. And Tanto coming on against tired defences has not exactly rattled them. If it’s basically a swap for Tanto (with no extra cost) rather than anything to do with the defence per se, it starts to make some kind of sense.elbiglad said:It seems pretty likely to me that Fevrier is an Apter or Tanto replacement. No issue with people questioning the club. There's definitely a few things from this window that don't sit right with me - not signing a left sided defender as early as possible being one of them. But I accept there must be more to it than meets the eye. Hopefully we see someone come in.BigDiddy said:What is wrong with questioning some of the decisions made by the club?

Apologies for being a pedant, but those two you mention should definitely be considered 'hail marys' and are not reflective of our recruitment strategy. They were made for free, outside of the window, and in an ideal world I'm sure they wouldn't have been anywhere near the first team (and JR wasn't!). Recruitment is very difficult; just look at the big boys in the Prem, the money spent and the success rate of those deals.
Personally I'd rather wait until I can see the full picture (i.e. when the transfer window is shut) before passing judgement.1 -
Yep 3 everyday, but come on lets try and be positive about this,if we look for the downside of our signings we will all be slashing our wrists.I just hope somewhere a Conor Gallagher ,Alex Song or Josh Cullen turns up.BigDiddy said:

Cheers for this. Does anyone have the Apter and Olaofe ones? Would be interested in an impartial take (not suggesting for a minute anyone on CL is posting anything other than calm and unbiased analysis, of course)killerandflash said:NTT20 fairly underwhelmed🔴 Jayden Fevrier (RWB/RW) - [Stockport - Charlton] - LoanThis is Part One of ‘Loanee Swapsies’ between Charlton and Stockport. The Addicks are playing poorly at both ends of the pitch and need to find a better balance. At right wing-back, Harry Clarke is the current starter, James Bree is back at Southampton, and Rob Apter has been sent to Bolton (more on that later). Nathan Jones may not have liked what he saw from Apter, but memories of Thierry Small’s interpretation of a hybrid RW/RWB role in last season’s promotion clearly linger – he wants a tricky dribbler available to him, and Fevrier is exactly that.As with Apter, and with Olaofe (more on that later, too), there’s a big question mark around whether or not Fevrier can step up. In 18 months at League One level, he has been patchy. One particularly good spell towards the end of last season didn’t roll over into this campaign. It would be a surprise to see him used as anything other than a bench option, and we may even see him feature a little on his ‘natural’ left side. But it’s hard to see Fevrier having much more impact than Apter.1 -
Tanto couldn't get in the team so it makes sense seeing as we cover a position that needs covering. I think what we are seeing is an acceptance from Jones that he has to mix things up. Whether it works or not, he has to try.0

🟢 Tanto Olaofe (ST) - [Charlton - Stockport] - Loan
Completing the game of ‘loan swapsies’, Charlton send Tanto Olaofe back where they found him, in return for Jayden Fevrier. Olaofe featured in 22 of Charlton’s first 25 Championship fixtures, the majority off the bench, but the signing of Lyndon Dykes knocked him down the pecking order. In truth, Olaofe struggled to make an impact in the 700 minutes he did play.
With a number of other promotion-chasing League One clubs sniffing around, Stockport moved quickly to make sure Olaofe returned to them. He has a good understanding with Kyle Wootton and will likely play up top alongside the big man, running in behind and peeling out wide to the left, where he caused damage last season. Olaofe, 26, was by no means prolific in League One – just 8 league goals to follow the 20 he scored in promotion from League Two – but Stockport have missed his athleticism in the first half of this campaign, with their attacking play lacking its previous verve.
This is a statement signing; one that should instantly improve the first team and ensure that County’s attacking depth is something to be envied.
Rob Apter (RW) - [Charlton - Bolton] - Loan

The green shows where Rob Apter made 1+ goal contributions for Blackpool in League One starts during 2024/25, the red where he didn’t. It neatly illustrates the curious patchiness in the 23-year-old’s game: stretches where he looks bang on it, followed by others where he fades out entirely.
Realistically, that comes with the territory of an inverted right-winger who wants to come inside onto his left foot and strike for goal. The spectacular does not always land. The injured man he is covering for, Armando Cozier-Duberry, can attest to that too. The difference is that ACD is, by some distance, a bigger contributor to the all-round game, with greater involvement in build-up and a stronger record of getting stuck in defensively and, as a winger, win the ball high up the pitch.
That said, Bolton have acted quickly since news of Cozier-Duberry’s injury. Yesterday it was Corey Blackett-Taylor. Today, they double down, plugging the gap further with Apter.

It's an odd situation but trying to be positive - his inconsistency isn't really a concern for me. Small's end product was comical most of the time, but one of his biggest benefits was that his pace and power took attention away from our other attackers. Currently we're so easy to defend against because TC can't even get forward from the wing back position and if he does, defenders can double up on him knowing that they don't have to worry about a threat opening up elsewhere. Godden is also a very intelligent runner capable of creating spaces for others to run into, so if that trio are on the pitch at the same time, it will give us a dynamic that we haven't had all season. Only real worry is that Stockport fans are adamant that he is a winger and not a wing back, so not sure how it all works defensively.6

Seems like they think both are decent business for the other clubs, but equally there aren't saying wtf are Charlton doing / they've had their pants pulled down. Both struggling to contribute at this level and struggling for game time.
Doesn't mean I'm not a bit gutted not to see more of them both but I do get it0 -

That's a really useful illustration with Apter. You can't realistically expect an inverted winger to be contributing goals and assists every game and there will be long stretches where there's nothing, but the trade-off of that is he then needs to be on it with the other side of the game every time. All players make mistakes but in a Jones team you don't need to be getting goals and assists every game, you need to be part of a collective that scores 1 or 2 a game and doesn't concede. Apter's problem is that he got us 1 goal and 1 assist and could fairly argue that but for poor finishing from others he might have had more assists, but he increasingly stopped bothering with the defensive side, or took up the right positions and bottled the work when it arrived. Can you afford to have a player who's going to go a 10 match stretch without contributing to the goal tally as well as not fulfilling his defensive role? Not in this team you can't.MarcusH26 said:PeaksAndValleys said:

Shouldn’t we have seen he had those weaknesses before buying him? I could see the potential for him to have a better end product than Small, but he seemed an odd choice for a team built around keeping clean sheets.Garrymanilow said:

Maybe we did and thought the weaknesses could be coached out of him but he hasn’t taken to the training as we hopedScoham said:
Shouldn’t we have seen he had those weaknesses before buying him? I could see the potential for him to have a better end product than Small, but he seemed an odd choice for a team built around keeping clean sheets.Garrymanilow said:

But it’s hard to see Fevrier having much more impact than Apter.Tweet from Maxwell when we signed Olaofe: https://x.com/AliMaxwell_/status/1940340942554464267Cant see anything on the Apter signing thread.

I think the idea was it's easier to coach him how to be a better defender than coach attacking instincts into someone. I think Jones has made Lloyd Jones, Ramsay, Gillesphey and Edwards all better defenders. He obviously did good work with Bell previously, rehabilitated Thierry Small, even made the likes of Thomas, REG and Hector at least be as good as they could be for the level. With Apter though, the switch-offs in terms of tracking back got more regular. I can accept that, it's a part of football that still has Premier League defenders getting it wrong, but letting players ghost past him and not even bothering to make a challenge or put in a foul before an obvious breakaway is something that comes from the player, Scienza has never had an easier day than he did against Apter. In the second half we put Hernandez at RB and he just started kicking people. It wasn't fancy and he wasn't good but he made sure at the very least attacks weren't building so much down his side. Apter bottled it completely. There's no coaching for lack of effort like that. I would gladly have seen Apter get it wrong here and there and develop over the course of a season but he gave the distinct impression that he didn't really fancy it quite quickly.Scoham said:

Stockport fan on twitter saying he's a winger who they've forced into playing wingback, which is why he hasn't had many starts this season1
