A week is a long time in politics… and an even longer time in football
Seven days ago we’re getting mauled 4–0 by the Millwall Lions, licking our wounds, and fans questioning Nathan and most of the players and wondering why we do this to ourselves every weekend. Fast forward a week and suddenly we’re swanning off after a tidy 2–0 win over the Leicester Foxes like it was all part of the master plan with the new signings looking very good indeed. Proof, if ever it was needed, that football logic is a myth. One week you’re lion food, the next you’re outfoxing the Foxes, helped of course by the red card and fantastic support from the travelling Addicks. A really enjoyable win and its a big relief ! Now roll on the next three games at the Valley, let's hope we can get much needed points out of these vital games. Roll on next Friday v QPR. COYA’s

I actually thought we played better than we have on recent weeks & was "pretty" on patches. The 2 goals for example were well crafted & very well taken. Clarke put in a few excellent crosses & in the 2nd half Godden got away a 2 occasions.....albeit the first he was a few yards offside 😀.SOTF said:Much, much better performance. Pretty? Absolutely not.
It’s clear what we’re going to be for the rest of the season, but if it keeps us up, there won’t be a single complaint from me.

Much needed win but second half poor.
Even though he rightly sent their guy off for the foul on Leaburn, thought the ref was always looking to give them something back. The disallowed goal from corner was a joke and the penalty extremely soft.
Rode our luck a little in second half but overall fully deserved, thought Cody looked good as was Leaburn, hope injury not bad.5 -
Certainly better than AndersonSOTF said:
To be fair, he was concentrating on whether the player behind was going to track back and just lost sight of the ball.golfaddick said:
At one point towards the end of the game Docherty picked up the ball just outside our penalty area & strode into acres of space. He kept going and going and going and then gave it away which lead to another Leicester attack. He had time to play it out wide but just didn't know what to do with it.Southbank said:Simply, we had a proper defence for the first time in months. Our problems have been very straightforward. Three good centre backs and two proper wingbacks fixed it. Now also clear that our midfield is a huge problem with none of them capable of making a decent forward pass, partly why we were on the back foot for a lot of the second half
Four more wins will keep us up
It was unfortunate, but I think today showed we’re a better team with his off the ball work. Although he does have a tendency to drop to deep into the penalty area leaving the edge of the box free.0 -
Hopefully the lost the dressing room talk will be parked now, don’t get me wrong things didn’t look great, but I said at the start of the week, we will find out a few things this week.1

We really needed that
First off Leicester were poor, even in the second half when they had a firework put under them I didn't think they were operating as a unit
For us, nobody had an off-day, Bell was naive for the penalty but what followed was hilarious
I really hope Miles is not seriously hurt, he has grown so much as a player and in that role we will miss him terribly.
Felt Jones got all the changes spot on today, best form of defence is attack and we looked like we were capable of looking early season using speed to get us up the pitch. Very impressed with Chambers and Clarke too
Also honourable mention to Connor Coady, I've never really rated him, possibly unfairly, but he was very professional today15 -
PWR. Not going to get too carried away but that was a solid, professional performance. You can only beat what’s put in front of you but I thought Leicester were poor and playing ten men for 75+ minutes was an obvious advantage. An obvious red card thankfully given but a shocking decision to rule out a perfect goal. Thankfully it didn’t impact on the result and we fully deserved the win, scoring two good goals.
Positives were Coady, Clarke (an upgrade on Bree), Chambers (good going forward), Miles and Dykes. Special mention for Docherty. Been saying for weeks we are a better side with him in it and he returned and put in a very good performance. Everyone else put in decent performances.
Have we turned the corner? Too early to say but a good start. Need to build on this with the next three games at home so after that I’m hopeful we will be in a much better position.
Final word for the travelling faithful, you came over loud and proud and were rewarded with the win. Thank you one and all.22 -
He’s lost the dressing room. Fallen out with Doc. Haha!
Very nice post match interview Nathan. And, a very nice win.

I disagree. I think the game would have been easier if it had stayed 11v11. They wouldn’t have stayed in a low block and countered us so much!golfaddick said:PWR.
Excellent win & the newbies all did well. Looked a much balanced side with proper wingbacks & both goals came from crosses from them. Who knew Coady could play the sweeper role & Dykes and Leaburn both looked sharp up front.
Downsides......didnt think TC or Fevrier did much when they came on and I dont think we win that game if it was 11v11.
But a wins a win. If we can take that solidity into the next 3 home games there is no reason why we cant get a couple of wins before 2 away games. 8 -10 points in Feb should see us looking up & not down as we head into Easter.0 -
Thats only going to be natural, the majority of teams have individual talent streets ahead of us. We are building towards that! Not really too sure how we expected it to go this season?SantaClaus said:A very welcome result but it's still worrying how fragile we look when teams step up the tempo and really put us under pressure, especially when they do it with 10 men.7 -

Your constant negativity, that’s what I have against you. Interspersing that negativity with the odd supposedly positive comment doesn’t offset your constant whining for me.golfaddick said:
I really have no idea what you have against me. I made a positive post earlier about how I thought the team did well & then replied to someones post about Dochety.TheHerminator said:

It's getting to look I little bit like bullying to me, unless I see you pick on the other dozens of posts picking up on something that went on during the match
Just lay off will you.If you don’t like it ignore it. Pretty sure you’ve told me that in the past 👍0 -
Stayed well away today. After last weeks usual and predictable capitulation against those cnuts I take todays performance as a welcome pick up.
Well plated Addicks. Let's not make it a bum clencher, I know it's our way, but let's banish relegation thoughts asap, eh?4 -
You are almost right Beds, another week or two to go , optimistic for a lower mid tableBedsaddick said:After today’s results we mathematically can’t finish bottom 😉
position as I am sure you are (-:0 -
Seen a couple of people say Kaminski saved the penalty - watch it back - Ayew sent him the wrong way, so he was already on his backside when Ayew hit the opposite post!4

Wednesday have 17 games left; potentially 51 points which would put them on 44. We have 35 at present.Bedsaddick said:After today’s results we mathematically can’t finish bottom 😉0 -
I think the only shot Kaminski needed to save was the shot in the 2nd half that he should have saved easily but somehow managed to spill.....and then push it even further towards their oncoming forwards.Weegie Addick said:Seen a couple of people say Kaminski saved the penalty - watch it back - Ayew sent him the wrong way, so he was already on his backside when Ayew hit the opposite post!
He makes some great instinctive saves but does spill a few that should be saved easily7 -
I loved Nathan's interview. Just came across as someone who is invested in and loves the club.16

Today went pretty well with everyone else losing apart from Pompey. Feb is a big month with 6 games to play....4 at home inc Pompey and also WBA away.
Hopefully by the start of March we will be a few more points away from the relegation places.3 -
If Jones keeps to this starting line-up, I personally can’t see any reason why we won’t stay up. I’m convinced there’s only one relegation place left, with Sheff Wed and Oxford taking the first two slots.
All I would say is; if Docherty ain't starting, give it permanently to Jones. I think it a bit silly giving the arm band back to him on the odd occasion he plays, when Jonesy is a regular3 -
Said before the game, but having two proper Wing-Backs in the side again is not to be underestimated... So important to the way we play, giving us a lovely bit of balance to the team. People talk about our Midfield having no creative outlet, pulling the strings... Thats because it comes from the Wing-Backs...Ramsay / Small / Edwards for us in the past... Jack Stacey and James Justin for Nathan Jones when he was at Luton... Now Harry Clarke and Luke Chambers, with both of them getting an assist each, whilst they were both very unfortunate not to end up on the score sheet as well. Keep those areas fit and injury free, and I think / hope that we can start looking up the table once more... Its all about the balance... At least I f**king hope so, because its a drum I've been banging since November, and am going to look smug if I'm right, and a bloody twat if I'm not!!

Nah mate, he's lost the dressing room and has got to go. Apparently. There's a whole thread on it somewhere.altrinchamaddick said:I loved Nathan's interview. Just came across as someone who is invested in and loves the club.7 -
Oh and dont blame me... I got chivvied out the door the moment the Referee put his hooter to his lips... But the guns are firing once more, it should have happened in August against Leicester, its certainly happened now.You know why? - Because Leicester... YOU'VE... BEEN... SUNK!!

Finally a leader on the pitch….organising and shouting orders…..well done Connor Coady….dont care if he can’t get around the pitch like he used to….but he has a footballing brain…..which we have lacked14
