I thought QPR were a bit slicker on the ball, but we played with heart and that's a good thing.
I'm guessing Jones was hoping for a Berry goal from nothing, I mean he's done that before, but this wasn't the game for that. Quite relieved to hear the ref's whistle. We live to fight another day.

Probably about as well as we can realistically play with the team we have. We could and probably should have made our advantage count in the first half, then second half it tailed off quite dramatically.
If the hallmark of our best performances is keeping it tight for the first 60 then using the bench to overpower the opposition then this was the complete opposite of that. No explanation for why TC was so poor when he came on, he just felt miles off it today. I don’t necessarily blame Carey for shooting every time he gets the chance - I think he feels under pressure to make something of our attacking play as it is an area we really struggle in and therefore goes as direct as possible when he can. It was a real shame he didn’t slip Clarke in when he had the chance.
I thought Ramsay struggled again - at the start of the season it would have felt mad to say this, but he is currently the weak link in the back 3 both physically and technically. Useless he’s playing with an injury, I would argue that he has regressed at this level since the start of the season. Collins may well end up being an upgrade in the long run.Doc was good again and Dykes looks a really good addition. Lots of pressure on the Stoke and Pompey games now - we need at least 4 points minimum. Feels like they will be attritional games like tonight’s one was, and victory will require slightly more quality from us1 -
Dykes gave a battling performance, cleared the ball off the line and only missed a goal to cap the performance. Playing for a place in the Scotland WC squad and looks really fired up. Its going to help the team.Kelman worked hard. We created a number of good chances but didn't do quite enough to score. Coady looked to play forward and gave some calmness at the base of the midfield. Bell excellent and Chambers looks good. If Charlton are to stay up, these two need to stay fit. Clarke looks a great addition and didn't go missing.Charlton as a team pressed and worked hard. That was good, and QPR could not have complained if they had conceeded.Midfield legs had gone at 75 mins and needed reinforcement. Chambers got to 75 mins and had to be subbed. If Fevrier is the cover for LWB then why bring on TC at LWB ? It does not work. TC made a couple of runs but gave the ball away more often. Needed fresh legs and Berry was not it. Mystifying subs from NJ could have cost the game, Thank F*** that it didn't.Carey needed to be be subbed near the end. He was starting to drive me crazy. Shooting at every opportunity, mostly woefully, losing the ball and not playing Clarke in, Why didn't NJ sub him ?Glad for the point, and important we didn't lose, but from these run of home games, we will need to get some wins & points to move us away from the relegation scrap.5

Tc is wasted at wing back. Doesnt know if he should get back or forward. Ends up lost.Dont think its his fault.6

Thought Dykes was outstanding as was Bell
TC had a pantomime spot for 15 mins
we competed well and had five shots on target … and didn’t give the game away in the last five. Signs of new players settling in4 -
Dykes is a warrior!4

Not knocking him but sometimes players see the headlines as their about to shoot. That was definitely one of them.se9addick said:
I think that’s just Carey, he’s about the only player in our team willing to have a shot. The vast majority of his attempts don’t go in, some are wild (unfortunately that was our experience tonight) but he’ll be our top goal scorer come the end of the season.Chippycafc said:I thought it was a good derby and if we had our shooting boots on could have won. Ref today was excellent let a few niggles go and knew when there was a proper foul he called it.
WTF was Carey doing near the end blasting it into space when a simple pass.put Clarke in. Campbell should have been bought on earlier and played out on the tight where there were tons of space.
One point gained towards our goal.
To add thought kelman was poor tonight.0 -
Much as goals won games, and we need to find someone who can score, anyone, but keeping a clean sheet is almost more important. The strategy for the season ending is about defence, defence, defence.
Keep it tight and fuck expansive football. Punt it long and chase the knock downs, in the hope that anyone might just get lucky.
Keep it tight and we secure a point. Get a lucky break and it's 3.
That's it. Both keepers made match saving saves, so a game of two keepers.
Forget his name, but the post match chat said their no.5 made 22 clearances, only 2nd for the Championship this season, so he put in a hell of a shift along with his keeper.
Another point on the board. Something to build on rather than feel it's back to square one.
Leicester's points deduction may still come into play as the months roll on.2 -
I think kelman just needs 2 instructions
1) anticipate the knock on from dykes
2) get in the box when the wingbacks look like they are going to cross5 -

Playing wingback isn’t an excuse for not being able to pass to a team mate. When he had the chance to go forward with the ball he looked to pass back.2121 said:Tc is wasted at wing back. Doesnt know if he should get back or forward. Ends up lost.Dont think it’s his fault.2 -
45, 65 now 75. As soon as Liverpool let us play Chambers for a full game we’ll be better for it.8

I can't believe you've forgotten Berry tonight alreadysam3110 said:I haven't seen a worse sub appearance than TC's tonight. One burst of energy in the opening 30 seconds, then absolutely nothing from him afterwards, just moped about the pitch, staying back when he should be attacking, then drifting forward aimlessly just as we lose it to be out of position.
When the ball did find him, he managed to pick the wrong option EVERY single time.
Just awful10 -
Got a point - a plus. The side is better with the newbies. But the overall lack of quality at basic stuff is alarming. So many passes astray and uncontrolled easy balls. Most of the time when QPR got the ball they had 3 or four options for passes - we got the ball and mostly only one person to pass to. The space their players got in the second half (and a lot of the first), especially on their left, was why even a mid-table team can make us look like long ball huffers and puffers. Dykes had a good game as did Jones, Bell and Kaminski. Kelman in second gear, Ramsey dreadful, and although I like Docherty for his effort he is out of his depth in the Championship. Carey really tried but not his night tonight. The side is in a better place to face the run in now but still think it will be touch and go.0

Why on earth is Stoke a free hit? Home to a team in average form, I don’t understand that at all.9

If we played like this throughout the season we'd be mid table.

As an Aussie based Addick, I only get to see live games, when carried on Bein sports, so my contribution to the debate is limited by that. However some observations on the second half in particular was that we never really look in control of a game offensively, meaning whilst we defend excellently as a unit, we really lack that midfield 'ticker' that can get on the ball, and KEEP us moving forward, as so often we seem to pass backwards into the back three, before hitting a hopeful ball towards Dykes, which the poor bloke has to try and make stick.
Final point is that it baffles me, the amount of chances and hope that is invested in Tyrese Campbell. He's got a bit of pace and energy, but he is never a left wing back in a million years, and after a promising start proceeded to gift them possession FOUR times in the next ten minutes, in very dangerous areas. Why bring in Fevrier if he's not a straight back up to Chambers? A left footer on that side is imperative, if we have learnt nothing this season, surely we've learnt that?5 -

Bit more quality first half in the final 3rd and it could have been 3 points.
Our midfield is totally lacking in pace and quality. First touch is woeful and inability to pick a pass etc.
Glad that Carey gets forward and gets those chances - if only he could hit the target sometimes!
There was definitely a better balance to the side until Chambers went off. We look to have a better all round team now - but Berry was not the man to come on for the final 15 mins.
Well - onwards and hopefully upwards. Points against lower half rivals upcoming will be crucial.....
What was the question?

"How can I best turn a draw into a loss"?
Your starter for 10 - no conferring- CAFC Jones = "er - pass".0 -

Not the worst 0-0 I've seen, and definitely a fair result overall.
Most of us expected and wanted TC to come on, but it didn't work at all and affected the balance of the team.
Midfield went to pieces last 10 and it was crying out for Coventry or JRC to come on, and Berry seemed like the wrong option
Kaminski, Bell and Dykes the standout players for me.
A point gained, but slightly frustrating after a dominant first half, which suggested 3 points were within our grasp.5 -

Seen Coady taking some flack and feel like I must have watched a different game as I thought his passing was superb16

ForeverAddickted said:I agree JRC adds no pace to the team and rarely gets into a trot - I am pleased we did not bring him in on - as they would have totally over ran our midfield, if he was on .DDOUBLEE said:Every substitution seemed to make us worse. We missed Leaburn as Godden is still getting back up to speed. Why JRC wasn't brought on instead of Berry... Insane, but thankfully didn't cost us.Worth remembering that we dont know what would have happened had JRC been brought on. We bemoan the Berry change, but nothing to say that JRC wouldn't have had a moment that would have proved even more costly had he come on. Hindsight is a beautiful gift, not that I mean it as a criticism as works the other way tooFrustrating we didn't take the chances that came out way. But Jones did his job as Manager tonight

I thought he was very good up until around the middle of the second half where we was getting overun and it needed freshening up it wasn't his fault as he's not played alot but when your at home and you need to take it to teams its where we struggle.YannTheMann said:Seen Coady taking some flack and feel like I must have watched a different game as I thought his passing was superb2 -

Two consecutive clean sheets…Nathan’s gameplan is back on track
lots of shots, not necessarily on target, but lots of shots nevertheless

Their goalkeeper was man of the match..The last 15 minutes was not a pleasant watch,

Compilation of their keepers saves. On another night we win comfortably. Frustrating but a good performance overall.
