because we do so much work off the ball, we end up in the situation we found ourselves tonight where QPR looked the likelier to score in the final 20. All over the pitch you could see the game had caught up with so many. Coady was very much off the pace. Chambers was done. Dykes ran his arse off, and Clarke couldn’t get forward as much in the second half.I appreciate Coady, Chambers, Clarke and Dykes haven’t seen much football this season for different reasons, but it was the throughout those run of games over December and new year. Leaburn was often exhausted by the end of it. I know the way we play is what has got us to where we are now and with safety in our own hands, but we’re getting to the business end of the season now. Bodies are tiring and the season has taken its toll. If we just had a couple of players that could actually let the ball do the work it would make such an overall difference. It’s immaterial as we don’t.
I guess the positive is that because Clarke, Coady, Dykes and Chambers haven’t played much football, you could argue they should be a bit fresher for the final games, but our style really does take it out of the players.We have to as an absolute minimum beat one of Stoke or Pompey and not lose the other imo, preferably beating Pompey and at least drawing with Stoke. The challenge with that is facing Stoke first. Draw or dare I say lose that, Pompey becomes huge
I can definitely see Jones changing it on Wednesday trying to manage those minutes. TC will come in off Dykes, we might even get Coventry back in for Coady
These next 2 home games are so important. I just really question what’s in the locker to break them both down and get the win from a quality perspective3 -

Very good first half performance
Quality on the ball from Coady and Chambers
Excellent goalkeeping from Kaminski
Dykes and Kelman looked a handful
Minus
QPR changed shape in the second half, pushed further up the field and Docherty was left floundering as Coady dropped deeper.
QPR's subs improved their performance, our subs made us worse.
Carey was not good at all in the second half but worse than that was Campbell, one great cross and then he looked like he had never played football .
QPR are a top ten side and that was their third 0-0 draw in a row, drawing at Stoke and Oxford. We can be critical about the second half and that we didn't finish chances in the first but reproduce that performance against teams in the bottom half of the division and it will give us good chance to pick up points.

A few things is very clear to me. 1) At this point in his career, Coady can’t play a whole match at holding mid. Start him and let him play 60 and then bring Coventry on or rotate them to keep him fresh. 2) Berry should not see another minute unless we are down and are looking for a late goal. 3) no more TC at wingback, please. 4) another mediocre Ramsey performance. How long before the new guy starts?
Despite these challenges, having two solid wingbacks has made a world of difference the last few and we looked the better side than a mid table qpr team2 -
Would have taken a point before the game but feel we should have won based on our first half dominance. Missed two great chances and then ended up being fortunate to hold on.
Thought QPR were poor but aware they've got a load of injuries.
TC and Berry were awful when they came on, and I felt tonight showed that we should have gone all out for a quality midfielder in.
Kelman, Ramsay and Carey disappointing from the starters.1 -

Surprised by the levels of negativity on here, yes we faded and ended up hanging on but for majority of game we were the better team. There was a reason their keeper was man of the match.
Back to back clean sheets, 4 points in 2 games post millwall and we are looking more like the team we were early season. 4 points clear, 7 teams who right now are doing worse than we are, give us that at start of season and we would all have taken it.It will still be a battle but right now we are top of our critical mini league.6 -

Played well, looked balanced, unlucky not to have gone 1 or 2 up. Missed some of the lads blowing out their arse for 10 minutes before action was taken and imo the subs were just not the right ones. Hung on desperately for a point. Upside, a good first 65 and we need to put our chances away. Sort out the dross/panic and sitting deep at the end and don’t bring TC on for anything other than a striker, he’s not a left back!

TC getting a bashing on here tonight, ok.
But a bit of perspective, perhaps?
And so .... TC comes on, NJ decision yet again to play him at LWB.
First thing TC goes on a run and panics the QPR defence - and immediately their manager makes a sub to double up on TC.
Now TC is pressed onto the touchline, denied space and now afraid to take a risk, in case he's exposed defensively.
By this time our 3 CMs have run themselves into the ground and running on empty - and QPR win control of the midfield
And what does NJ do?
Nothing, he just bites his fingernails and hopes for the best, before bringing on Berry very late on.
That's not good enough - you had energy and experience on the bench which could have revitalised us.
You've been completely out thought by the QPR manager - which nearly cost us defeat.
And for god's sake, stop this nonsense of playing TC out of position - and instead let the lad play to his strengths.

Yep, you could blame Berry for coming on very late and being unable to get a foothold in a frenetic game.killerandflash said:

But let's be fair - he's not a defensive midfielder, his skillset is in and around the opponent's box.
He was the wrong sub.
It wasn't what we needed right then.
That's down to NJ.
I guess NJ was hoping that we'd get a late set piece - and Berry to be instrumental in nicking a last gasp goal.

As far as nil-nils go I don't think that was a bad match. For the most part it was quite entertaining - though granted, the bar has been set pretty low in (most) recent games. I think it looked like both managers set up their teams with 'not losing' being the key priority rather than 'winning' and in that respect both can go home happy. Despite this, there was some decent action and many good performances. If there was one disappointment it was that we didn't bring on any suitable replacements when our midfield started flagging. If there's another disappointment, it's that TC was used as a wing-back rather than a winger. Overall though, I thought it was alright and a point nearer safety, hopefully.

Glad that Carey gets forward and gets those chances - if only he could hit the target sometimes!
There was definitely a better balance to the side until Chambers went off. We look to have a better all round team now - but Berry was not the man to come on for the final 15 mins.
Well - onwards and hopefully upwards. Points against lower half rivals upcoming will be crucial.....

Firstly, I’ll take a point. But we could have had 3. I couldn’t understand why Kelman started instead of Godden. With Dykes being fresh and playing well in the 1st half I’m sure sniffer Godden would have got a goal for us. Hindsight I suppose but I wished at the start that Godden was on and not Kelman. 2nd criticism. I thought Nathan Jones was too slow with his substitutions and that helped give the initiative to them as the 2nd half went on. And it was difficult to stop that momentum once they had got it. Ramsey was weak, as was Kelman in my opinion. Everybody else put in a shift but we needed quicker changes in the 2nd half as legs were getting weary. A point’s a point though. Onto Stoke.1

I will add though that Kelman does put in a shift and he is still learning the game at this level. So, I don’t want to be too critical of him.0

If we stay up, I think the owners would look to spend close to £20m. We spent £11m in summer as recently promoted. And Jones' interview is right we have jumped up a level and the personelle represents that hence why good performers in league one have be shipped back out and more seasoned operators brought in or clear talent like Chambers.
If we can get the loans for for 90 mins and we play like that we will stay up.
Then we must spend too avoid being in this situation again.1 -
We looked up for it until squeaky bum time. Ultimately happy with a point, only because we were horrific in the last 20-30 minutes. But should have buried it in the first half.1

If the Coady chance first half or the Ramsay chance second half fell to Dykes or Kelman we go 1-0 up and probably see the game out. One of those nights.1
