Fecking animal. Makes Kone look like a little boy.

Lloyd was excellent for us but thought Cook of QPR was the man of the match.

Get well soon Lloyd. Nowhere near as compelling a watch without his dominance and bravery. Glad we managed the point.

Recurrence but worse of same ankle injury he's been managing for months?

I’m relieved we signed Sichenje. We know Burke and Gillesphey aren’t good enough to cover Jones for long at this level, but Sichenje might be based on the little we’re seen so far.

after this Saturday I wouldn't be surprised to see Coady in the middle of a back 3 if Lloyd is out for any length of time

I thought Sichenje did well as the middle cb yesterday. Playing with a middle cb that plays tight to the striker there’s zero chance Coady can do that with his mobility but Sichenje can even if he is a little clumsy

agreed - but a tough ask for Collins to do it regularly without Jones alongside him - he's barely been here 5 mins.

I can see Jones going with experience initially

Anyway let's hope it's immaterial and Jones isn't out for long

True but it's worth pointing out that Sichenje isn't some fresh out of the youth team novice. He played over 50 games for one of the top teams in Serbia. I think he's shown so far that he's pretty capable of stepping in.

A booking away from a 2 game suspension, so needs to not be carded in the next 3 games. I wouldn't play him at Boro with the Oxford game 3 days later. Play him v Brum if fit but rest him on Saturday is my thinking.

I just hope he doesn't play on Saturday. Obviously we'd miss him but he always seems to play against Wrexham with some kind of issue and then their forwards have a field day because an important part of the chain can't really move. Play Sichenje there and give Lloyd a chance to rest. I'd even actually take Burke over a 60% fit Jones, it's such a risk for a one off fixture
  • Its the leadership element we're going to massively struggle with on Saturday with both Jones / Coady absent.
In terms of handling the Wrexham forward line, I dont think it matters as Kieffer Moore one of the few Strikers who has probably had our entire Defence in his pocket, from when we played them in the original fixture.

Our BFK will sort out Moore. And possibly get sent off in the process 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can see why we brought the Sichenje signing forward, he's looked comfortable at this level and like someone who could realistically step in for an increasingly injured Jones. Burke just hasn't had the fitness to be a viable alternative and we're not playing Gillesphey in the middle of the 3. Every time Jones has gone down on the pitch this season I've been terrified he was going to have to go off but yesterday was by far the least worried I've been about it following Sichenje's showing against Southampton. Potentially a really essential bit of transfer business
  • It would be very NJ to force him to play on Saturday and tell him he'll get a rest once he's booked.

LJ looked buggered at the end of the Saints game on Saturday
He had a long chat with Curtis Fleming and was clearly very uncomfortable just standing. He was helped part of the way off the pitch by one of the coaches/physios.
That early foul last night when he first went down, was cos he knew he didn't have the pace to keep up with the Baggie.  I'm surprised he then stuck it out another half hour or so and hope they haven't made the injury worse.
We know LJ is a 'never give up, play thru pain' sort but the fact they persisted with him Saturday and last night despite his obvious struggle, speaks volumes about how far from his standard are any of the possible replacements.
Coady?  Able, experienced but glacially slow.
Burke? His absence from the squad for weeks/months says 'No'.
Gillesphey?  League 1 is his level
Sichenje?  Looked all at sea throughout the first half on Saturday - a more consistent referee would/should have despatched him for the 2 similar fouls on the edge of the area.  Improved 2nd half but he had to and that bar was LOW.  Looked much more capable in a 4 than in a central 3.  Telling that Ramsay reverted to the right of 3, when he'd been vastly superior at RWB on Saturday.
NJ may have to start with a back 4 against the circus - we've ended up playing with a back 4 in many recent games.
He can have Coady and Coventry sat tight in front to retain the recent defensive 6.
The dependence on LJ speaks loudest of how poor our defensive resources remain.

Burke has proved the vast majority of games when he’s fit he’s capable and can’t have a pop at Sichenje for stuff that could potentially have happened when it hasn’t. Both are good cover, but you can’t expect anyone that comes in to be automatically as good as our best player there’s going to be a drop off regardless

The other CBs are a step down from Lloyd, but that's because he's right up there as the best "defensive" centre back in the division. The amount of clearances and aerial duels he wins is incredible.

It doesn't mean the other options are terrible though.

Was I the only one worried when he came on last night bless him?

He was bound to break eventually. After the Stoke game he looked like he could barely walk. Only crumb of hope is that he was walking around in normal trainers at the end of the match (I.e no moon boot or crutches). Hoping more a precaution in taking him off
  • How on earth do you play like that for an entire game, against one of the league's best forwards after going off injured just a couple of days ago?!

Consistently immense. I really wasn’t sure about him in his early days. Even on bad days, he’s always our best player.

He really battled hard again, have to say Moore was quality today and probably gave Lloyd one of his hardest games.

I thought the same but looks like Moore only won 3 aerial duels against him all game, that’s a real credit to Lloyd

It's super impressive how well he's playing, especially when you consider his ankle issue.
