'The Lennie Lawrence Dinner'

You are correct I think in what you say about the club running its own catering. The staff would be (very) part-time. As such IMO it would be difficult to recruit them, train them, and retain them. The service, certainly in the lounges where most of the G&G staff are very good, would likely suffer. I don't think you are quite right though to say that the G&G staff are agency staff. I believe most of the professional catering people are full-time employees of G&G. So, they could, for example be working at a G&G operation in UCL during the week but turn their hand to working at Charlton on the weekend/evenings. I know that some of them also work at Watford FC. I am sure there are other sites. It is true though that many of the serving staff will be youngsters either at college or Uni who work part-time.fenaddick said:
I guess the difference with retail is you are open consistent hours for the whole week, all year so can have full time staff. F&B staff will almost exclusively be agency workers and so you’re basically beholden to one third party anyway. The argument then is why not just give the whole thing over to a third party?Henry Irving said:
They're not charging for the water, they're charging for the person serving it.jimmymelrose said:

Personally I will would tell them to poke it and see if the Marriott Hotel in Bexleyheath is available at a cheaper price.
Secondly the minimum age of the person who would remember and witnessing a Lennie Lawrence side is 45.
I would love to go to an evening like this with old players also in attendance but at £120 pounds for a two course meal (Plus whatever you spend on drinks, travel etc) is far too expensive for the likes of myself and friends and family.
These events are marketed at your people in the lounges and the boxes who have the extra revenue to afford to attend these events.A missed opportunity and the club are losing touch with it comes to fan engagement with the vast majority of the Charlton Athletic fan base.
they even charge for tap water in a jug!🤦🏻♂️

The current administration chose to continue outsourcing catering when the contract came up for renewal.
There are arguments for and against outsourcing but I found it odd that we brought retail, admittedly a smaller operation and head count, back in house but left the catering outsourced.
It leaves the club at the mercy of another company and with no flexibility and huge costs for events like this.2 -

If you’re a licensed premise then of course someone will be serving it. The law wasn’t written with the idea in mind that a licensed premise would say ’here’s a jug, go into the kitchen and fill it yourself.’Henry Irving said:

Am I remembering incorrectly or did Lennie Lawrence drive the van in the “we hope it’s chips, it’s chips” advert of the mid eighties?
(with one of the do-it-all men in the passenger seat)?
Would someone mind checking that with him?0 -
I think Garth Crooks and Mark Stuart we’re in the back singing as well.Fumbluff said:Am I remembering incorrectly or did Lennie Lawrence drive the van in the “we hope it’s chips, it’s chips” advert of the mid eighties?

The £5k is more or less covered by the cost of the Title Sponsors table.
It appears the average punter is getting very little more than you got at the last POTY (2024) at double the price.4 -
The EPA also has to cover the cost of the lighting and PA hire as well as, most importantly, make a decent profit to use to help ex-players in need.Algarveaddick said:shirty5 said:Apparently the Ex players association are being charged 5 grand by the host this evening. I didn't realise that the POTY organisers got the PA etc for nothing, Henners.Henry Irving said:

Ultimately, people will either pay it or not, just as we have said previously about the POTY. I didn't mind paying £55, others baulked at it. Nobody is being forced to go...0 -
If they find a Title Sponsor paying that priceAlgarveaddick said:shirty5 said:Apparently the Ex players association are being charged 5 grand by the host this evening. Personally I will would tell them to poke it and see if the Marriott Hotel in Bexleyheath is available at a cheaper price.

An event in Bexleyheath, the price is cheaper than the cheapest ticket for the Lennie do and appears you get more food and drink for your price.
Maybe we need to hold more events away from The Valley if the cost of the venue is so high it makes ticket prices for a lot of our supporter base9 -
Saw Pearce when he was main speaker at The Valley last year, and he was fantastic! Full of stories, gossip and insight into leadership/management both within football and wider lifeJohnnyH2 said:https://x.com/i/status/2027513073259483419

There's less than a month to go until the 'Lennie Lawrence Dinner' and supporters are being urged to snap up their tickets while they still can.0

Dinner will be two courses apparently.
There exists a smattering of supporters like me who won’t book up because the mystery ‘dinner’ is not defined.
£120 is a lot to risk in the current economic climate when you don’t know what you’re getting for your money.5 -

It sounds like they are struggling a bit for numbers.
A few of us had offered to recreate the famous 'promotion night' picture (including mascot), and this would have boosted numbers, but sadly this fell on stony ground.

This should have sold out weeks ago but when the price is too rich for a 2 course meal with no drinks included, then other ways need to be put in place to try and fill the event.clive said:Fan Advocates Lucy Bishop and Lewis Catt are hosting a raffle, offering supporters the chance to win tickets with a £5 entry. Lennie was great for us but let’s be honest it was a long time ago now and he’s only going to attract a fraction of our support for this, nowhere near a Curbs or even Chris Powell dinner might attract
Not surprised this isn’t selling well at that price tbh

He was a true legend of a Manager at a time when the club so Very nearly went completely Bust1 -
Agreed0

Lennie’s good value but I wouldn’t consider paying that price.6

I'm going and really looking forward to it. He was manager when I started going and some of the players attending are proper legends of my youth, when I knew every stat on everyone of them.3
