Unless its Burke who we see less, and its still Kayne and Collins primarily at RCB, Id worry with Collins and Reece being our options there next season as we'd remain a bit frailMarcusH26 said:
Think it ultimately ends up being Kayne moving on in the summer , Clarke and a cover RWB in , Sichenje as the RCB replacementmendonca said:There's a big difference to when he receives the customary awkward ball out wide, to Bree, who would just flick it to an opposition player. Both are decent, but there's no way you could play (or afford) Clarke, Bree, and Kayne for two positions.2 -
Do we have a realistic chance of signing Clarke in the summer ?0
-
Think that depends on how our season and Ipswich both end. We're still in the Championship and they are not (due to promotion) then yes we probably do. Any other iteration, maybe less so.ShootersHillGuru said:Do we have a realistic chance of signing Clarke in the summer ?2 -
I hope so, really like what we’ve seen for him and hopefully we’re a good fit.ShootersHillGuru said:Do we have a realistic chance of signing Clarke in the summer ?Jones does love Bree though. I hope he’s not given a promise to him about next season as I think Clarke is a clear upgrade3 -
I thought Clarke was out of contract in the summer? Have I totally misremembered that?0

Yes but Ipswich hold a 1 year option they can activate if they wantCaptainBeefheart said:I thought Clarke was out of contract in the summer? Have I totally misremembered that?2 -
I think we need to get out of this idea of us having first choice and back up players and that some players are too good to be back ups or wouldn't want to be back ups. This is the championship, this season has taught us we need proper depth. We need players who can step in and us feel no difference. We need to be able to rotate better next season we need better cover for injuries in every role. We absolutely have to push to have real quality in depth next year.MarcusH26 said:

I know Jones has had Bree at multiple clubs but Clarke strikes me as a much more natural fit for Jones. Proper athlete, solid defensively, good on the ball, bundles of energy and looks more than up for the fight. He's supposedly able to play RCB too so provides versatility.
In my eyes Bree is technically a better footballer, but nowhere near as dynamic. So whilst he may be more likely to pick out a pass, he couldn't get up and down as much and definitely didn't put himself about as much. He seemed to lack the intangibles that Clarke has; he wasn't so dramatically better with the ball that it made up for this gulf in physicality. I don't think Bree was ever fully fit after the injury he picked up.
Clarke would be the preferred signing for me. If Bree doesn't sign a new deal with Saints he'd definitely be one I look to get back in as he is vastly experienced and still a very tidy footballer. Those players don't normally come cheap so would be a great opportunity to save some £££.9 -
Personally give me both in the summer, but unfortunately our chances on getting them completely depend on Ipswich and Southampton. If that fails guessing it will be Ramsay RWB Sichenje RCB if Ramsay is willing to commit to a deal0

It will not be this. Ramsay cannot crossCrispywood said:Personally give me both in the summer, but unfortunately our chances on getting them completely depend on Ipswich and Southampton. If that fails guessing it will be Ramsay RWB Sichenje RCB if Ramsay is willing to commit to a deal4 -

Agreed you can have Ramsey as a right full back, but nowhere near good enough on the ball to play higher up the field. The fundamental issue with playing 3-5-2, is that wing back is such a specialist position that recruitment can be extremely tricky, let alone back up for the position, as we have found out this season.Leuth said:

I think with both Clarke and Bree because of how they’ve played this season, there will be other championship clubs in for them. Big test to see if we are going to be able to step up to compete with the more established championship teams in a way that wasn’t possible last summer4

Sadly if he stays fit for the rest of the season I think clubs with bigger budgets than us will be interested. I think he’s someone who’d be worth making on of our higher earners though, and if he likes it here enough that could swing things in our favour. Hopefully Ipswich get promoted as he’d probably want to stay there if there’s any chance of getting game time in the Championship.2

I really didn't rate Clarke for the first two games, but have been proved completely wrong since - maybe it was a bit of rustiness. I still don't think he has tonnes of quality on the ball, but he plays to his strengths, fits the system and looks easily a competent mid-Championship player.
It depends what we're going for next season, if it's the same style with more depth then I think he's a must-sign if he's available on a free. If they trigger the 1-year and want a fee for him, then I'm not sure.0 -
Bree doesn't, he's out of contract in the summer.Crispywood said:Personally give me both in the summer, but unfortunately our chances on getting them completely depend on Ipswich and Southampton. If that fails guessing it will be Ramsay RWB Sichenje RCB if Ramsay is willing to commit to a deal0 -
I was surprised he hadn’t been playing for Ipswich and was available TBH.
Big upgrade on Bree and much more of a Jones player.
Would like to bring him in and if it were me he’d be a priority signing. He’s still young, has time to improve and has got better for us as his fitness has peaked.4 -
Bree has started the last 4 games for Southampton there’s every opportunity they offer him a new deal unless they get promoted,LargeAddick said:

Lord only knows what Clarke makes of his time with us. Two seasons ago, he played 35 matches in Ipswich’s back four, helping a team that scored 92 goals to earn PL promotion. Now, in a back five, he’s largely restricted from crossing the halfway line.

Had a poor first half but better in the second.0

Didn't have a great game today and has been pretty poor of late, having looked excellent initially0

Quite possibly...and Bree seems to have turned into Roberto Carlos now for Southampton lolCallumcafc said:

We just don't play to his strengths. How many times do we allow him to get in the sort of positions he did for the teams he played previously for?Addick Addict said:Lord only knows what Clarke makes of his time with us. In fairness Johnson for West Brom looked absolutely class. If he was defending someone like fevrier he would have had a more enjoyable time2

Been poor recently, really struggled with Johnston last night. If Jones wasn’t injured I’d be playing Sichenje and Ramsay on the right and Clarke on the bench0
-
His early celebrations of goals is becoming one of my favourite things though, gets me every time2

Johnston is their danger man and he demonstrated why last night. Clarke got twisted inside out on a couple of occasions. I thought Ramsay could've been a bit closer in the first half and that Fevrier could've supported when we changed shape because he felt like their only real threat. Clarke stuck at it though, and made a couple of great recovery tackles last night.
I think Clarke has shown with his performance last night and v Porsmouth that he is much more comfortable attacking than defending, which isn't necessarily what I expected based on reports when we signed him. Two poor games hasn't changed my opinion, and I still like having him in the team and would be interested in signing in the summer.4 -
Not at his best last night but who was? Even Bell was poor. Clarke has been decent.2
-
Even when not at his best, he still had two great recovery moments, where he got back and made outstanding challenges.1
