A great 3 points and I thought it was thoroughly deserved on the balance of play. We should have been ahead at half-time, although this was always going to be a tight game between two low scoring sides.

Stoke did threaten down our left side in the first half and we certainly caught a break when their quick and powerful right wing-back, Lawal, had to do off injured before half-time. Lloyd Jones did well to put JRS slightly off balance just before he shot against the bar. Sorba Thomas threatened sporadically in the second half with two low crosses across the 6-yard box but Stoke had very little to offer striker-wise and our central defenders - especially Jones and Bell - were dominant.

TC helped to up the tempo following his introduction and the relatively sparse crowd did their best to give the side a lift. After TC got his goal, things predictably got a little nervy towards the end but we defended well as a team and, in the final analysis, Kaminski didn't have a meaningful save to make.

Following the debacle at Millwall, we've got back to our earlier defensive solidarity and become a side that's hard to beat. The recruitment in the January window has proved inspired so far, with big contributions from Clarke, Chambers, Coady and Dykes. It's a marked contrast to the summer recruitment which, with the exception of Bell and Carey, has been very disappointing.

Last night's win puts us 11 points clear of Oxford, who have played a game more, and I can't see them bridging that gap in their last 14 games. Blackburn, Leicester and West Brom are all in poor form and hopefully we can extend the 7 point gap to the relegation places by beating Pompey next Tuesday. Nathan also said that Miles Leaburn should be fit for that one.

Pompey will be another tough game but it should be a much better crowd, with tickets purchased from the original Saturday abandonment, plus it's not a school night, given the half-term holiday.

Fair play to Tyreece for keeping his composure despite suddenly ageing 40 years as he went round the goalie.

Bet he felt good. I knew that he would.

Wing backs that are actual wing backs have changed this team totally.

Coady quietly going about his work and shoring up that area in front of the defence.

    Proper team again. Lovely
Whilst I know what you mean, it's fair to say he's not quietly going about his business. I sit at the back of the West Upper and I could hear him keeping up a running commentary throughout the game. He's been an absolute revelation in every aspect.
Coady is our modern-day, midfield version of Paul Miller. Not the best, not at all quick, moderate/ok in the air but hugely experienced and totally unfazed by opposition/circumstances. He's a player that can rise above the situation and keep others at it. Not every club has players like that.
    Nowhere near as dirty though?

I don't really get the "Jones giving some back is unprofessional" comments. In how many other professions do you have a few thousand people chanting that you're a c*nt? None. So the normal rules of professionalism don't apply.
I once worked as a stock-controller in a factory and ... OK, it wasn't a few thousand, more like a few dozen.

Clarke already knew it was in!

He went a little early with his celebrations for my liking! One slightly loose touch and the. A brilliant bit of control later and it’s in!
I think Clarke was appealing that the move was offside... Being that it was from a goal kick.
and he's wrong...you can't be offside from a goal kick, you know

Must be a new rule that otherwise why wouldn't our players hang around in offside positions off goal kicks?

They quite often do, you start as far back as feasibly possible so when you run to meet the ball and flick it back you have more momentum

Big shout out to the noisy lot in the North Stand.
They didn't stop singing, especially at the end whilst I was sitting head-in-hand in my seat, muttering at every misplaced pass, and dying a thousand deaths every time Stoke had the ball.
    I really am no help....

A few points for discussion for the games coming up

Goals per game Charlton don't look great. We have the 3rd lowest ratio of goals per game.

    17/02 - 19:45: Portsmouth (Home) 0.93
    21/02 - 15:00: Southampton (Away) 1.50
    24/02 - 19:45: West Bromwich Albion (Away) 1.00
    28/02 - 15:00: Wrexham (Home) 1.42
    07/03 - 15:00: Birmingham City (Home) 1.34
    11/03 - 19:45: Middlesbrough (Away) 1.58
    14/03 - 15:00: Oxford United (Away) 0.88
    21/03 - 15:00: Norwich City (Home) 1.31
    03/04 - 15:00: Bristol City (Home) 1.39
25/04 - TBC: Hull City (Home - Final Home Match) 1.61
02/05 - TBC: Swansea City (Away - Final Match) 1.23

    Charlton 0.97

If you arrange the above teams in form ie points from last 6 games (18 points)  it becomes a little worrying ...ie if we were to be playing these team tomorrow we are quite low on the form table.

So basically it's very important that over the next two weeks we beat Portsmouth at home and beat WBA away who are in a terrible run of form.

After those two games the rest of the games are going to be very hard.

Especially Boro, Southampton and Swansea away which are always tough games especially with our current goals per game ratio.

Points from last 18 % of points
    11/03 - 19:45: Middlesbrough (Away) 18 100%
    21/03 - 15:00: Norwich City (Home) 16 89%
    21/02 - 15:00: Southampton (Away) 13 72%
    25/04 - TBC: Hull City (Home - Final Home Match) 13 72%
    07/03 - 15:00: Birmingham City (Home) 12 67%
    28/02 - 15:00: Wrexham (Home) 10 56%
    02/05 - TBC: Swansea City (Away - Final Match) 10 56%
    Charlton 10 56%
    17/02 - 19:45: Portsmouth (Home) 8 44%
    03/04 - 15:00: Bristol City (Home) 7 39%
    14/03 - 15:00: Oxford United (Away) 5 28%
    24/02 - 19:45: West Bromwich Albion (Away) 3 17%

I definitely think we have turned a big corner and playing at times good football but we aren't out of the fight yet.

In 2024/2025 - Luton who finished 3rd from bottom got 49 points, 2023/2024 Birmingham got 50 points, 2022/2023 Reading got 44 points and 2021/2022 Peterborough got 37 points.

So it looks like 49/50 points is crudely what we have to get to stay up.

Ref booking the players before set pieces was bizarre.

Ignored Kaminski being pinned on every corner though. Thankfully they didn’t manage to get on the end of any of them, cause Kaminski wouldn’t have been able to move.

Amari Bell is an absolute Rolls Royce of a defender. Lyndon Dykes is superb at what Jones needs him to be. It’s so hard to judge a player based on fan feedback on here - Coady, awful signing, disgrace, we are going down. Lyndon Dykes, donkey terrible relegation signing. Harvey Knibbs, best player in L1, can’t wait, etc.
Chambers was apparently shite at Millwall according to what felt like the majority. Clueless.

I didn’t get that impression at all. I thought most thought he looked good but was obviously well off the pace as he’d had so little football. Can’t remember any at all saying he was shite.

I sit in the East Stand so can see how full the South/Covered End is better than anyone sitting in it.  With 10 mins to go it was a lot better than this pic but there were still plenty of gaps, by the time the match kicked off there were some gaps but not that many, except the edge with the Family Stand area.  Like the other stands a lot of fans get to their seats at the last minute, much more so I would say with the Covered End.

It's Facebook. It is a fake account. One look at the account and it's differences to his very sparse Instagram account makes it pretty clear someone's trying to profit off him

Just found it on Facebook and another recent one with an old video of him in front of our fans singing his song. Think he really wants to come home.

It has always been one of the laws - since the game was first codified in 1863! Same as not being offside from a throw-in.

We should try it more often. Not too often so it becomes obvious but discreetly to keep it a hidden rule from other clubs and their supporters.

Would like to see this whole issue get sorted out though. Players with arms around other players at corners ought to get booked and then repeat offenders sent off. It is ruining the game. Usually defenders as well. Easy to sort in my opinion?
