Docherty wasn't anonymous, he did his usual off the ball stuff well and played a lovely ball through to Dykes first half.hudson-son-son said:Pretty much positive all round from me beyond getting the centre midfield right. Tyreece looking much more sharp recently but so isolated when he gets teh ball at times. Carey grew into the game a bit but Doherty completely anonymous. Need one of them to join up more with the front 2.
If our defence is more like this and how they were early in the season though - all concerns of going down feel like they can be relaxed a bit now...27 -
Great interview with Charlie Kelman from @LouisMend on Rich's substack. Seems like a great fella who is taking accountability for the past couple of weeks. He's the only natural finisher we have until Godden is fit again. Think he needs to start some games to get on a run.

Last year this fixture and result felt like a bit of a smash and grab - now we've followed them up a league and feel closer in level to them than we did in L1. Nice sign of the progress being made24

"If you keep clean sheets, you get opportunities to win games. We have to be built on that, when we build that foundation we can be more fluid and score more goals," Jones said"
One for you Golfie. Whilst it would be nice to score more goals, I would take a 1-0 every time we were to win a game aslong as we got the important thing...3 points.12 -
Not that it matters but apparently it was us that won the toss and chose to kick towards the covered end first half5

Good performance and a deserved win. Ramsay MOTM, for me, Jones second. Great to see Coventry playing well again.I thought we had the better of the game barring 15 minutes after the Brum changes. Nathan a little bit slow with the subs for me, but immediate impact when they did happen. Delighted for Kelman; we need to have patience with our players!Felt a lot more like the team from the start of the season: high and aggressive press, good shape out of possession, and more than one dimension going forward. Not impressed with Birmingham. For all the money they’ve spent they didn’t look up to much. Another toothless team who try to play nice football but didn’t pose any real threat.6

Absolutely fantastic -
So close now.
Delighted.4 -
Before the game we were 7/1 to go down, now 16/1. Massive, massive win12

Birmingham offered next to nothing today and were there for the taking. For much of the game it didn't look like we could take advantage until a real strikers finish from Kelman. How ironic that I had liked a "what is the point of Charlie Kelman post earlier"!
I hope NJ doesn't do to Kelman what he did before - as soon as he scored a couple of goals he dropped him! We need goals and if his confidence is up after today keep him in the team.
And how lovely to see Mannion coming and taking some dangerous crosses. It just takes huge pressure off the defence. I hope he stays in for the rest of the season.
Kelman has been in every matchday squad since the Oxford game.

Nice to see us attack these last couple of games, first half was good. First 20 mins or so in second half we was dropping too deep and Brum looked decent. Great goal from Charlie boy and a very good defensive performence after that. Beat Oxord on Sat and we hopefully we cant start relaxing.2

400 mile round trip well worth it today.
Lloyd Jones immense once again, but should give a special mention to Will Mannion. Very assured performance. Confident with the crosses and I thought his distribution was sound too. Hope NJ doesn't revert to Kaminski and gives him more games.11 -
Watched the match from the upper West and enjoyed the experience. Only the 2nd time I have ever gone up there but you can see the moves and where the space is. You can also see that Cafc passing still isn't Championship standard but fortunately the blues were off colour.
Birmingham were on a poor run after conceding 3 goals to Millwall and also Middlesbrough last Monday.
Carey is the one player who can take good set pieces and also his long throws are decent and led to the winner which Charlie took with a fox in the box quality finish.
Normal 1st half frustration but at least no Pompey performance by cafc and we had a good shape, plus our 3 CB'S were so strong and Harry Clarke was enjoying his self and nearly scored in the box from a good cross from TC.
Chambers gives us shape even if he was a tad under par.
I can't knock Dykes work rate but he does look limited at times but TBF he never stops trying and lets the CB's know he's there.
TC has a languid style which is frustrating and he did let' his head drop for a while in the 1st half.
I was really impressed with Mannion today and I prefer a big keeper who claims the ball in the air than to punch.
I still want Charlton to improve their attacking and it was good to see Charlie Kelman and Leaburn run into the Channels or Space when they came on.
It's so important that we keep Bell, Jones and Ramsey fit to the end of the season as they are the rock that gives us defensive stability.
Massive 3 points and hopefully all todays squad are fit for Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

How recent? The one that immediately springs to mind is QPR away, where he didn't handle being run at very well for at least one of the goals, but that was months ago.TheHerminator said:

Just got home to Bristol after a great day out at the Valley. Good performance and an important win.
Thought all the players did their bit today, with no stupid mistakes. We made Brum look bang average.
As others have said Jones was immense, especially as he was flattened by a forearm smash early on.
Don't go very often these days as I live in Bristol and I'm getting on.
In fact this season I've been to just 3 games - Swansea, Oxford and Brum. What do these games have in common?
Charlie Kelman scored.
Bumped into @PaddyP17 before and after the game, then @DamoNorthStand introduced himself on the train back to London Bridge when we were talking about @oohaahmortimer 98% safety stat.
Great to meet you guys.23 -

Wonderful win. Takes the pressure right off!
With his 9 yellow cards and potential for injury, I’d leave Lloyd Jones here for the Wednesday night fixture up in Middlesbrough and save him for Oxford. I’d also rest at least Dykes, Carey and Campbell to the bench.
Start Leaburn, Kelman, Fullah and JRC and just have a real go at it from the start.
Then everyone is fresh for the lunchtime kick off on Saturday.16 -
We have been a lot more fluid in recent weeks which is a sign of progression. When we pull out to the left Chambers coming inside into a CM type role has really helped our build up play down that side. I really hope we can get him back next season. Him and Edwards rotating would be a great left hand side with Bell.
Another superb team and defensive display today. On paper, Birmingham should beat us but when you have the determination, discipline, together, structure and belief we do, we can get results against anyone.10 -

I have often thought we should do a Charlton Life end of season social. Be good to put faces to names. This forum is so central to so many people’s lives3 -
An absolutely vital 3 points which, on the balance of chances, we just about deserved. Birmingham had some nice build up play but the only save I can remember Mannion having to make was from a veritable pea roller in the first half.
We defended very well throughout, with Jones, Ramsey and Bell all extremely good. We struggled to retain possession and create much in midfield and, at times, Lyndon Dykes found himself isolated. Against that, the Doc and Coventry, as usual, did well out of possession and helped to stifle the opposition. The likes of Clarke, Carey and TC also managed to put some dangerous crosses into the box.
Curiously for a side with such hubristic owners and fading play-off hopes, Birmingham took every opportunity to waste time in the first half. Perhaps after 10 defeats on the road, they wanted to take as much time out of the game as possible in order to try and frustrate us.
We had a couple of early attacking forays early in the second half - one of which was wasted by TC who took an unnecessary extra touch and delayed his shot, enabling Klarer to block it. Thereafter, Birmingham had their best spell in the game and we had to really dig in.
Just after Nathan introduced Kelman and JRC, Dykes did really well to flick on a long throw with a couple of defenders around him. Charlie Kelman took a touch and calmly finished well from close range.
I thought we saw the game out well and could have made it 2-0 on a couple of occasions, with Miles Leaburn giving the Birmingham backline plenty to think about after his late introduction from the bench.
After Oxford’s win at Preston on Friday night and all the other teams below us (save for Wednesday) picking up a point, it was vital that we got a result and 3 points was just the ticket. A 9 point gap is going to be very hard to make up with just 10 games to go and we go up to Middlesbrough in good form and in good heart. Today’s win also takes some of the pressure off the trip to Oxford next Saturday.
Good news also that Lloyd Jones has, I think, only one more match to go to avoid a booking and a two-game ban.
Not that it’s any of our concern but I doubt that Chris Davies will be in post for much longer. Given their level of spending, Birmingham’s American owners will be unhappy with mid-table mediocrity and a third loss on the bounce, particularly against a starting 11 where only two players commanded modest transfer fees - Ramsey and (presumably) Dykes. A comparative analysis of the level of investment per point would not make pleasant reading for Tom Wagner and his colleagues at Knighthead Capital.
Happy days - 44 points down, 6 to go.

Priske should have had a second yellow. After shoulder barging Jones and getting a yellow he did exactly the same thing later in the match!Pelling1993 said:Brum can't surely be that bad every week. Ducksch & Priske are absolute donkeys. I swear people raved about Klarer too, he's a lump of a defender that just relies on grappling and getting away with it.
Paik & Iwata spend more time on the deck crying than playing it seems too.
Great day and a real relief that we are so nearly there.0 -

Problem with getting Chambers in again would be Liverpool wanting him to play more often than not and to put it bluntly he’s not as good as Edwards, yet. He hasn’t the physicality needed and I think his defending is suspect. If Liverpool were happy for him to be cover then I’d agree but they won’t.stjohnshill said:We have been a lot more fluid in recent weeks which is a sign of progression. We might be able to sell it by saying they'll rotate together due to their injury records but it's a pushLargeAddick said:
