Lloyd Jones 2.0

Still time for Ahadme to come good then 👍elbiglad said:Lloyd is 31 in October. His career has had some huge ups and downs: two professional contracts at Liverpool, but also loan moves to divisions below and time as a free agent. He had an awkward start to life at Charlton; unlucky with injuries but also inconsistent form, and I’m sure we could dig up some comments on here disparaging him. But over time he settled, he found some form and has now clearly found a home. Maybe he was a late developer, maybe he just needed to find the right combination of club and manager to maximise his strengths. It’s clear though, that patience has had huge benefits for both player and club.Who knows exactly what has led to his imperious form, but it shows you is that its not always wise to write players off after six months. Especially true if they’re playing in a new system, have injury or adjustment issues when joining a new club, or if they’re simply just inexperienced at the level.4 -
Appleton not only failed to have any sort of "new manager bounce", he somehow managed to make things actively worse. I've never been baffled by any career as much as his and how he keeps (kept?) getting work.Garrymanilow said:Just goes to show what a talent Michael Appleton was. Imagine being such a bad manager you manage to make Lloyd Jones look like a donkey3 -
Another fantastic performance but more importantly no booking again. Just the one more game to survive right?5

Is it worth not playing him midweek to save for Oxford ?fenaddick said:Another fantastic performance but more importantly no booking again. Just the one more game to survive right?6 -
Not the worst idea ever. If Collins were ok I would suggest it for sureRadostanradical said:

Possibly his best performance today, and considering how good he’s been is really saying something. Hope he’s still got a few years of playing like that!1
-
Incredible today dread to think where we'd be without him3
-
best cb since the prem days, he is just immense9
-
Hopefully Spurs don't notice how good he is for this league and put a bid in for him 👀4
-
Try telling Lloyd, who's started every single game this season, to sit out against Middlesbrough!4

When we lost Kermorgant you worried that nobody would be able to replace him.
Starting to get the same feeling about Jones. Machine.8 -
I don't have any kids yet, but when I do, I am not sure I will love them as much as I love Lloyd Jones17

We said this after the game today, dont want to get into the 'free hit' game thing and we arent playing vintage Barcelona on Wednesday but really do think, if we have the players fit, that Lloyd sits the game out and be raring to go v Oxford. All it takes is a card happy ref and we lose Jones for 2 winnable games after Boro.Radostanradical said:

Surely he’d want to play for a team not having the yearly threat of relegation? 😉O-Randy-Hunt said:Hopefully Spurs don't notice how good he is for this league and put a bid in for him 👀2 -
He’s just a complete pleasure to see in a Charlton shirt, the consistency of top performances since last season is unreal and a real credit to himself, how the hell does this fella not even get in the conversation for the wales team?7
-
Their player elbowed him twice and he still wasn't beaten. Boke should have walked on that first one. Ref gives a yellow not red. Does the same thing again 2nd half and ref gives him a "talking to" about reminding him of the previous incident where he did the same thing. Also same player, threw himself to the floor at least twice with nobody near him.
We had a player barged over in the penalty box a short term later, (Docherty) and goes back and checks that the player is ok (is that taking the piss or what?) then gives the GK a free kick for their player barging our player over.. WTF.
Ironically if the 4th official was referring today, he would have had a field day.1 -
Just an absolute powerhouse wonderful centreback anytime the ball is lifted In the air our half you just feel comfortable he is going to outmuscle anyone and win the header and that's not even the be all and end all of his game just as good on the ball aswell, thank you jonesy for being a legend imo.1

My missus bought me a Real Madrid shirt for my birthday, I was dissapointrd to see it didnt have Jones on the back.
She said "but Lloyd Jones doesnt play for Real Madrid"
I replied "Yet"12 -
Player of the season again , unbelievable so good3
-
Don’t tell him where the coach is departing from on Wednesday. Just keep him fresh for Oxford. What a player.1

I've been making some 'Bell is my POTS' noises but Jones was absolutely stupid good yesterday. But so was Bell. Joint award imo0
-
I think your point would make more sense if it wasnt for the use of the word 'season' which implies that you look at all the games in it, a fair proportion of which Bell is ineligible for consideration for as he did not play as a result of injury.Lloyd Jones hands down for me.8

Best player by a country mile. So consistent, so strong, so good.
The post above about Spurs may be in jest but I do wonder about a West Ham, Burnley, Wolves or Forest coming in for him in the summer when relegated, as they could drop £4M or so on a 30yr old CB without blinking.
He is obviously happy here but money talks... Last big contract and all that.

It's not even close. It's crystal clear he is player of the season.5
-
Ah, but how many of our points have been won with Bell playing?Alwaysneil said:I think your point would make more sense if it wasnt for the use of the word 'season' which implies that you look at all the games in it, a fair proportion of which Bell is ineligible for consideration for as he did not play as a result of injury.Lloyd Jones hands down for me.
Anyway, we're lucky to have them both (and Ramsey)0 -
If we had a player called Ramsey I could possibly agree with your last sentence.2
-
This'll be more 1 sided than the Alfie may season... Deservedly so aswell, he has been immense. Not only is he top of our team in a lot of metrics, he is top of the entire league in a few. Be surprised if a few of the bigger teams in the league didn't bid for him this summer3
-
Has been immense for us - proper old school defender. Seems to win every header.0
-
They couldnt afford him!!Radostanradical said:My missus bought me a Real Madrid shirt for my birthday, I was dissapointrd to see it didnt have Jones on the back.

Without a doubt, my favourite player in a long, long time...
Plays through pain, dirty no. 9s, and dodgy refs
And the harder the opponent, the better he plays.
I'm a bit old to father a son, but he'd be christened 'Lloyd Jones ...'1
