Rodwell is de facto director of football...fenaddick said:
I don’t like owners/directors/executives in and around dressing rooms. I’m sure in this case it’s innocent as NJ wouldn’t stand for anything else but it stinks of meddling/spying for the boardMajor said:
Is there some injunction against him? Why shouldn't he be there congratulating players. What are you on about?fenaddick said:Dykes clearly loved that but what on earth is Rodwell doing that near the dressing room

He makes a fuss of a player who is out of contract in a few months, who, probably 90% of the fan base would like to re-sign...
You call it "meddling"... I call it "doing his job"...19 -

“I’m sure in this case it’s innocent”. It’s just a bug bear of mine, across football we see more of it and I don’t like that it’s becoming normalised but I’m aware that might not be a common feelingsouthamptonaddick said:

Anyway…. Back to the game and context of the season. Over 3/4 way through the season and only 2 teams have ‘doubled’ us. Wrexham and bloody Portsmouth (of all the teams). I think this shows we have held our own.Of the remaining teams, only boro, Norwich and Preston can double us this season.6

Looks like after the flick on from Dykes the ball hits JRC on the back before it drops to Kelman. I wonder if officially that’s going to go down as an assist for JRC1

On you tube you can find the post match Nathan Jones interview with Charlotte Richardson.
I think it was a very good interview, especially when Nathan makes his case (maybe his hope) about what is to come.
Inch by inch I believe the team and style of play has been progressing from an extremely agricultural style to a slightly more artistic style this season.
The direction of travel has been signalled, and in the interview Nathan has been prepared to expand on that.
It is funny how much our manager and play is disparaged by others, richer others in terms of their clubs, but the distance travelled so far at Charlton is a credit to Jones and his team of coaches and players.26 -
I thought it was winner of the toss chooses ends and then loser kicks off? Still the same result with Birmingham choosing to swap ends. I’m surprised more teams don’t do it because our record attacking the covered end second half has been very good for the last couple of yearsBen18 said:follett said:Not that it matters but apparently it was us that won the toss and chose to kick towards the covered end first half
Under the current laws, whichever captain wins the toss can choose which end to attack, or if they wish to take the kick-off. If they choose to take the kick-off, then the loser of the toss would choose which end to attack.
We took the kick off in the first half, which means Birmingham won the toss, and had the choice of which end to attack. I can't imagine we'd win the toss and be desperate to take the first half kick off.0 -

1) Lloyd Jones did really well not to react/follow up on that striker that left one in on him and floored him. If he'd been booked it would have been a suspension. Its "just" being a pro, I guess....but still.
2) Kelman cupping his ears at Brum. His dad is from Birmingham, right? Maybe a Villa fan?
COYR!
Nathan Jones 100% support
Charlie was born in Basildon, Essex and his mum is English.
Kelman only went to Texas for his dad's work from 4-10 and again at 14 when he played youth football for a year in Dallas before coming back to play in the Southend academy.
Kelman senior became an American citizen, hence why Charlie qualifies to play for the US of A.
If Charlie's dad is a Brummie ? that would explain why he wanted to escape!4 -

Going back to the performance, I thought yesterday showed the best of our style. We didn’t play around too much and not create enough chances but we also didn’t just pump it long for the sake of it. The last few weeks have shown an upturn in the style of our play and hopefully that’s something that keeps progressing11

Assuming we’re in The Championship next season then we simply must progress on the pitch. I fully accept that this season was all about staying up and not much else but mistakes were made in our summer transfer dealings and I’m hoping lessons were learned. More of the same football next season will imho see us again in a relegation scrap. Midfield is too pedestrian and lacks any creativity. The attack for me is an interesting question. Are they goal shy because we don’t have the quality or because the style of football makes it tough for the strikers. I’ve heard both sides of that argument and my jury is still out. In any case I would hope that a striker of quality is on our shopping list for the summer along with upgrades right across the midfield. Central defence is fine but aging and somewhat injury prone. Sichenje is I believe a replacement for Ramsay and Edward’s will be back but Gilesphey needs to be replaced and I’m not convinced Burke will play that many.jose said:On you tube you can find the post match Nathan Jones interview with Charlotte Richardson.

Hoping next season for a defense made up of Bree, Clarke, Ramsey, Sichenje, Lloyd, Bell, Edwards + 3 additions. Move on a Burke and Gillesphey.
No idea whether any of Gough, Mitchell, Laquetabua etc are up to stand in roles.2 -

you'd hope we're in the box seat with a so far successful loan and can't see any relegated prem clubs being in for him so in theory, he should really be somewhere towards attainable for us if we have intention to try and establish in the middle of the leagueBalladMan said:
His contract expires in the summer so it’s not up to Ipswich the decide. Obv he might get better offers elsewhere that we don’t / can’t match.ShootersHillGuru said:
He’s just the sort of signing we should be making for next season. Much will rely on where Ipswich find themselves next season I think. Mostly, thank the Lord for Jones, Ramsay and Bell, one of the best defence trios in the division
Lastly, I don't hold out too much hope that we can sign Harry Clarke on a permanent deal in the summer. He is one of the best loanees we have ever had and if he costs a lot and wants to join us, please splash the cash1 -
I thought Ipswich had the option to extend Clarke's contract by a further year, despite it ending this summerpaulsturgess said:

I listened and you’re right. I’ve said before that I admire his work effort and his commitment to the club. For now, staying up is all that counts. I look forward to seeing the phase three of our development that he promises in that interview, but I’m not holding my breath.LargeAddick said:

They certainly will but I doubt there will be a very long queue of clubs and if he’s not in their plans and doesn’t attract a fee acceptable to Ipswich he could well be available for loan again. It’s a tricky balancing act for Ipswich but I’m guessing that even if we are in for him it’ll go to the wire of the window.LargeAddick said:
