    Scary defence.
What numbers does the Boro scoreboard go up to?

Remember when we rested players earlier on in the season for a big game and ended up losing both lol

Well I feel for the fans who have made a long trek to see a team that is clearly not playing to win or draw... Okay perhaps there's players more in need of a rest than we know of but I will, along with a load more fans be flipping angry if we turn up at Oxford and put in a dire performance. No pressure Nathan but this move tonight in my opinion is on you!

I’d have rested Jones for sure, but changing the whole back line, especially for that back 3, feels like a bold gamble if we end up getting smashed tonight and then fail to pick up any points at Oxford.

I think whatever team we put out tonight would have probably lost (maybe by not as many!). For that breason I don't see it as a gamble, rather protecting the key players for a game on Saturday that we have a very good chance of winning.
I would rather we lose tonight and have our strongest team fit and rested for Saturday for the win. The bigger gamble would have been putting out our strongest side tonight and still losing but also losing key players to injury, fatigue or suspension for the Oxford game.

    Strong Bench.
Think tonight's team was picked with Oxford in mind.
    Not necessarily a bad thing.
We already have a -10 goal difference, and we are no way guaranteed to win a difficult away match at Oxford either. Get smashed tonight and don’t pick any points up at the weekend, the mood really changes again.

Id 100% of rested Jones. But really feels like changing to that back 3 is a risk.

I doubt we would have got much out of the game full strength. Sensible management imo.

A back 3 of Coady, Gilley and Gough might be the slowest back 3 in football history
He should have got Phil Chappell out of retirement to make it even slower

I am not disappointed with that line up. Need Jones and Bell for Oxford away. Clearly preserving Jones and insulating against a yellow. Just hope we don't get tonked now.

Just said to my son that it's a game of football between 2 Championship sides. We're not playing Barcelona or Real Madrid ffs  !!

Strange selection decision? Big defeat wouldn’t be good, especially if lose at Oxford.
Oxford and Leicester drew at Middlesbrough. Record at Oxford not good.

This could end up a cricket score. I hope at the end of the season the relegation positions aren’t decided on goal difference as ours is going to take a real hammering tonight.
Hope Oxford and Blackburn draw and Southampton do to WBA what they did to us at The Valley.

Can't see past a defeat and NJ will have egg on his face if we then go and lose at Oxford.

He has to rotate the squad as this will help with key players for the Oxford and Wednesday games coming up.

Even with a full team of first choice picks, it would be unlikely we could beat Boro.

Wise choices tonight - just hope we don't get battered and it may also show how much new business we will need to do in the summer

Jones has obviously lost his mind with the starting line up. What’s he playing at he’s gone nuts. We will get stuffed.

Obviously, that defence is awful. But I am really excited to see Kelman and Leaburn playing together again. It felt like they were really starting to form a partnership before Dykes came in.

The sort of lineup that reminds me defensively ( in relative terms) of Cambridge in the EFL Cup earlier this season.

Slightly surprised we've still kept 2 up top plus Carey, rather than packing the midfield,  as the defence will need a lot of protection.

i wonder what the correlation is between those furious about tonight's line up and those who feel we should play at full strength in the first round of the League Cup.

Its gonna be a long night with the pace in that back 3.

But if Nathan thinks this means we'll win at wknd then so be it, I wouldn't change a winning team unless you're forced to personally but even a full strength team would find it hard away against Middlesborough playing the way they are at present

Absolutely rate that team selection, we probably won't win this even if we are at our best... Amari'i bell is made of glass and Jones  needs a rest and is one booking away from missing oxford and Norwich. Didn't think he would do it as it doesn't give a great image, but our main focus has to be staying up, and of we win on Saturday we are probably safe
  • Let's see what happens before some on here throw the towel in.
If we get thrashed have a moan then.
Most on here thought we were going to lose anyway so if we end up losing by 1 or 2 it doesn't really make much difference and you never know we might surprise everyone 🤞
  • Well we should see tonight if Mannion is a good shot stopper!

Why are people saying it’s such a good idea like we’ve already got the win on Saturday? I can see this ending in tears and a Saturday meltdown. I’m usually glass half full but not got a good feeling about our plan.

    Is it a friendly tonight ? 😉😀

Not a team anyone would have guessed and we are wearing an unnecessary 3rd kit. ☹️

And this is why I also object to gold /silver match categories generally. You just don’t know what the managers will do and thus if it’s truly a match anyone should pay a premium for (not saying Boro have).

Regardless I have faint optimism for no good reason.
