*content warning: sick bucket advised* Meanwhile, the Guardian's Barney Ronay is getting off on hanging out with the hard lads for one final time. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/mar/20/millwall-lease-new-den-lewisham

Yawn. Usual Milwall clichésMillwallFan said:
A small minority of our fans have that mentality. A few of the older lot as you say. But it is a very few. The vast majority of our fans want us to win every game.Ducktapeshoerepairs said:All this talk of Millwall getting promotion … dont the pwoper ‘wall, you know the old lot /the real Millwall, NEVER want to be in the premier league ? The way they are all wetting their pants about being 3rd suggests otherwise ?Quite a few say they would like just a season or two up there but don’t want to stay too long through fear of being sanitised like the likes of Chelsea and West Ham. And like certain other clubs who totally lost their identity and had local armchair Arsenal and Man U fans buying season tickets at their ground just so they could watch cheap live PL football.0 -
Following in the Guardian tradition after Peter Preston, their old editor. I'd always wondered if he was an actual fan or just trying to see the row through a gentrification lens so make it a good Graun story.MillwallFan said:

Going to be interesting when Millwall's plans finally come through - as it's technically public land, it's meant to be 50 per cent "affordable" housing, so I'm looking forward to Ronay's analysis when they come up with just 10 per cent

Not a pop, honestly, but would you describe Charlton as INNER south east London? South east London most definitely. But not sure about inner London. I mean, you can walk from The Den to London Bridge and the city, and I quite often do. But you couldn’t walk from Charlton to the centre of London.

Its only whatever that distance is plus 4 miles or so...0

Charlton is in the old London County Council area (and the schools were in the Inner London Education Authority) which is the traditional definition of "inner London". It might be an hour's walk from New Cross, but it's still inner London.MillwallFan said:

Just googled. Millwall is 2.1 miles. I can walk it in about 40 minutes. Charlton is 7.3.FreshHaddock said:Its only whatever that distance is plus 4 miles or so...0 -

Yeah fair enough. I suppose it all comes down to how you would define inner London.InspectorSands said:

Charlton is inner London borough wise but not inner city.
Usually zone 1 and bit of 2 inner city.
Millwall, Chelsea, Fulham and maybe Arsenal inner city.
Us, West Ham, Spurs, inner London but not inner city.

Well I don't like to boast, but I once walked from Crystal Palace Park to the Thames Barrier, and it was one of those "local history" type walks that took in Beckenham Place Park, an Edwardian Post Box, Eltham Palace, and Shooters Hill so not exactly the "direct route". I'm a bit older now, but I have special plantar fasciitis insoles so I don't think it'd be a problem strolling in to the Shard.MillwallFan said:Just googled. Millwall is 2.1 miles. Inner / outer - who cares? if inner london was so great most wouldn't have moved to outer London and / or from the isle of dogs. If your looking for authentic south east London people if there is such a thing, you'll find a lot more of them in the suburbs and Kent. Anyway, Danny Baker, Barney Ronay (who ?), Daniel Day Lewis, Gary Oldman, Kellie Maloney (have i missed anybody?
), its a big couple of weeks coming up for your team. Will the crumble begin? 0 -

I think we’ll probably miss out on top 2 but comfortably make top 6. Then it’s a one in four lottery chance of going up, as all the teams in the play offs are capable of beating each other on any given day. Not sure that would be classed as a ‘crumble’ as such but definitely progress on last year.DOUCHER said:Inner / outer - who cares? if inner london was so great most wouldn't have moved to outer London and / or from the isle of dogs.
