VAR doesn't get involved with the dodgy tackle on Foden, the bloke trying to take off McGuire's shirt or the bloke who got two bookings.
But a 50/50 in the box which the ref had a clear view of ? Yeah, we'll have some of that!5 -

Referee has passed his interview/trial for a job in the Championship with flying colours.The tackle on Foden was a proper leg breaker and Foden was lucky to walk away from it.5

I don't really see the point of booking an International match at Wembley to play a load of fringe players - with a view to bring on a further seven fringe players. Isn't that a training session?
Surely assess those most likely at the training camp, slot them into the first team and see if they can bring something to the party.0 -

What a farcial evenings entertainment.Had I paid to watch that I would have been fuming,80000plus people paid to watch an England team but saw none of the regulars who usually start,just a load of fringe players who may or may not make the squad.
Now on to the officialdom,words actually fail me on the level of incompetence last night.
1)The guy who done Foden just had to go,that was a terrible lunge,did he even get booked.
2)2 Yellow cards ,not sent off,a FIFA level official ,dear oh dear.
3)Maguire dragged to the ground,so blatant ,VAR not really needed,nope,sod all,no review,anywhere else a pull back is a booking.
4)50-50 ball,in our box,White a fraction late,player goes down as if been shot,VAR all over it,ref a quick glance,cant wait to give penalty.
If this standard of officialdom is not improved at the world cup,it is going to be a farce.6 -

1. No he didn’t even get a yellow or VAR check, shocking
2. No more needs to be said, should never happen and the backtracking by the ref now is making it worse
3. The wrestling that goes on in the box now is ruining the chance of any decent football. Maguire was as bad as the Uruguay player
4. Was a pen. We got one similar in the last euros, they will always be given when slow mo and VAR kick in.1 -
We'd all be furious if a defender made that challenge against Dykes or Leaburn in the box and we didn't get a pen1

In a game versus a really solid and physical Uruguay team, I can't help thinking that Trent AA would have made us a lot more dangerous going forward, as he's direct and whips in early crosses, when so many of the other England players prefer cutting in, and getting swamped by the mass of Uruguay players blocking the goal.

He should try them out in two or threes but with the 7 or 8 who are already certain. Mixing them all up in one fake team teaches you no more than watching them play for their clubs. It’s what Deschamps does, and he’s the master of international football management.MrOneLung said:

I watched a bit of France v Brazil and most of England v Uruguay, and it’s not the refereeing that pisses me off.Deschamps, hugely unappreciated by the French public and who would be a god by now if he were English, knows what he’s doing. He knows , with only three more friendlies to go, more or less what his team is. Meanwhile we have a bloody German in charge, who moans about the Wembley crowd, and he’s wasting these friendlies doing some mental masturbation about fringe players. I can’t believe that he’s undecided on Cole Palmer for example. Deschamps would have him straight in the team, behind Kane, getting the team purring in time for the World Cup.I reckon that other contenders, if indeed we are one, must be laughing at England.4 -

The point I made about him is only an example though. As a nation we do too much chopping and changing around all the time. The national team should be like a club team that changes gradually in its personnel. You can take a coupke out, try a coupke of new players in, without changing the whole core of the team all the time. Injuries will force you to do this anyway.
Then we have this weird habit of bigging up a young player, saying that he’s going to be great, but really he often is a winger with pace and nothing else that special besides. Then a few years later he’s disappeared and there are some other youngsters who then fade in their turn. You don’t need to be always thinking about the future, just deal with the present. A player’s career last about 15 years so you could theoretically have a core squad of 15, with only 1 in, 1 out per year. Instead we have a 35 man squad: wtf is that for?1 -
Cole Palmer plays in the most competitive position in the England squad. What people don’t like about Tuchel (beyond the obvious) is that he doesn’t really pick on name or completely on club form, it’s how you fit into the system. It’s why Morgan Rogers has played so much, he’s the type of 10 that Tuchel likes. It’s also why TAA isn’t in the squad. He knows that later in tournaments the best teams have real threat out wide (Mbappe, Dembele, Yamal, Raphina etc) and so you need your full back to be a solid defender first and foremost which is why converted CBs like White, Quansah and Konsa are preferred. It’s different to what we’re used to in England and so people don’t like it1

Is that really what people don’t like? I think a manager should have a system and not necessarily pick the ’best’ players, but make a team that functions together.
If he prefers different players to me, I’ll accept that. Play Rogers instaed of Palmer if that’s what he thinks best. I’m not arrogant and I’ll assume that he can see something I don’t, fits the system better, or has a preference for the other because he compliments another player, or players, better. However, if this is the case, play Rogers. At this stage he should be doing small experiments with his preferred team not treating the match as a training exercise. It bollox preparation and it’s an insult to paying spectators.0 -
We went to the concourse at half-time for a pint and unanimously decided not to return to our seats. Empty tube back to Kings Cross (although there were crowds gathering behind us on Wembley Way that had the same idea!) and had a serious session in The Rocket on Euston Road until the wee small hours.I can't recall such a shit first half watching England and the crowd were not up for it either.0
