Sheffield is a great place to go for real football...United that is, not Wednesday. Its closer to the station, better pubs, better ground (not falling down around you for starters), much better atmosphere, real fans not just full of dickheads, you dont have to get a tram there (what is it Croydon ffs)? And i'm sure there's a few things I've missed too
You missed walking back to the station when its absolutely pudding down all day like it was this year.
  • I live in Hertfordshire but I have to say, Charlton is a million times less of a shit hole than some of these places. I used to have an office in Sheffield and went up there for a few days once a week. It was a decent enough place but we have the 02 the Thames, the Thames barrier, an IMAx and good shopping options. Of course Charlton is in the Royal Borough of Greenwhich with what that has to offer and Charlton Park. I accept parts of it may have been and may still be not the greatest, ditto Sheffield, but it is moving up year by year. I am not happy when you have Blackburn fans calling it a shit hole as well. Never have there been greater shit holes than Balckburn and Burnley. You feel the gloom when you get there and don't feel the release until you get out of there! Rant over!

I've been to Oxford away a couple of times recently. Plenty of Charlton fans singing Oxfords a shit hole.. and I bet some of them are from the delights of Thamesmead and Erith. 🤣

It's just one of those awful songs that gets rolled out by every club at every away game.

Let's not pretend Charlton is a nice place to live.

I lived there for 10 years, it's great. Nothing wrong with it at all (except a lack of pubs, but the Green Goddess and the River Ale House are right nearby). Best park cafe in the universe. Bunch of lovely parks. A level crossing. A tidal barrier the envy of the world. Shush

Admittedly, I have now zipped off to deepest Upper Sydenham, and can see Crystal Palace Park from my window. I'd like to think of myself as a border guard, a sentry on the outposts, a bulwark

Oxford’s ground is really an achievement, they’ve taken one of the most beautiful cities in the country and managed to find the one hideous looking bit with a hideous car park and plonked a football pitch and a couple of rickety stands there.

All of these places are within 5 (five) minutes walk from the Valley.

    Five minutes.

Stick that up your arse Hillsborough, Bramall Lane and Selhurst Park!

If there was a league table of championship shitholes I reckon Millwall and Wrexham would be right down there

I'm opposite Norwood Park. Our border control seems to be working well as I never see Nigel's in these parts. Think they get a nosebleed any further north than Don Eagles

I even enjoyed that, especially with 3pts tucked in the old sky rocket! Great place Bramall Lane.

When it comes to depressing football clubs and their environs, take a bow Gillingham. The walk from the station makes a Tehran fly drive holiday look attractive.

Maybe but my first trip there I was walking through the town centre past one of their colleges when a couple of Charlton lads in front of me burst into song. 🤣
