The funny thing is their fans were very unenthusiastic about his loan initially.  Didnt take them long to realize he was their best player by far

Some of you are too quick to disregard / disown 😂

a full season playing may have made him a player. Give the lad a chance

Would love to see him get a Top 6/10 League One loan next year.

If he can hack it at that level the he really becomes a viable prospect in my eyes.

Needs to sign a new deal with us first otherwise we need to cash in rather than lose him on a free

Give him a new deal and get him on loan to league 1... Kanu and Mbick could be a perfect foil for each other and our strike force for years to come

Let's hope the loan has a similar effect that Karlan Grant's loan did.

100% we need to get him a league one loan. Feels like he's been around forever but he's still only 21.

A good league one loan next season and he's definitely an option for us in 27/28.

I have been Kanu's flag waver since I first saw him in the Youth team when he was ahead of Leaburn in the pecking order before they both played in the same side and Daniel would play mainly to the right of Miles.
I knew that he would score Goals in League two if he got any type of service. 18 goals from 43 games is a fine return for Walsall who have disappointed in just being a mid table team in 12th place.

Not sure what his ceiling is at 21 but goal scorers will always be in demand and his work rate is superior to most of our present forwards and is quicker off the mark in the box like Godden, who thought Kanu was one of the best forwards at closing down.

A loan at Bromley in League 1 would be excellent if he doesn't come back to Charlton to be one of our 5 strikers in the Championship 🤞🏻

Many football fans go by stats.
The Kanu stats in academy football were ridiculously high (as is Patrick Casey), and that always suggested to me that even with a reduction in goals to games figures as the going gets tougher, his goals return would continue to impress.
    He is 21.
Eventually the majority of players he is amongst, as team mates and as opponents, will be his peers. The kind of peers he was scoring shedloads of goals against as he has come through.
In addition (so far) Daniel has always had a brilliant attitude.
Wherever his career eventually leads Charlton can be proud of him, I hope he has a successful career with us.

Imagine DK had no connection with CAFC but there was a rumour that we were looking at a 21 year old international, league two young player of the year, 18 goals for a middling side, tall, fast, good work rate and attitude

    And available for no fee.

Would you think it was a good transfer?

Basically the perfect loan, scores a decent number of goals for an average team and wins the award for the best young player in the League.

Only disappointment from the loan is that the goals dried up, as he got played elsewhere, the Manager got sacked, and Walsall dropped like a stone again - Might not have helped Kanu's development given that Walsall possibly would have gone up, and would have become relegation battlers, but having two years at one settled club could have been beneficial
Wonder if Blackpool might become an option for both Daniel and Karoy next season

Brilliant, aged 21 he's young player of the year in L2 in his first full season as a first team footballer. That is an excellent achievement, especially given that his season was so badly disrupted in 24/25 and he lost a whole year of development. We should be giving him a new deal and then next season looking to loan him to a L1 club to aid his progression again. I can't understand the people who are talking about moving him on, he's obviously talented and has the exact kind of style that Nathan Jones likes in that he's hardworking, extremely fit and aggressive in his pressing as well as a good finisher, which is great for teams that don't create a lot of chances. Player development is a long and inconsistent process, players can have setbacks and make great leaps forward, but the idea that we should chuck a 21 year old who has just had a great season is madness

Well done Dan - he's had an excellent season.

We need to secure him on a new contract and Nathan can then take another look at him in pre-season to decide whether he goes out on loan to League 1 or remains with the squad.

Is 5' 11" classed as tall these days?
  • Well done to him.  Absolutely great attitude, deserves every success that comes his way.  Hopefully he signs another contract with us and goes to L1 on loan next year.  Maybe Casey will sign again and he can go to Walsall instead as he showed he was far to good for the level he went on loan to with his goals quota.

He's probably benefitted from playing most weeks rather than a game here and there at our place.

It makes me laugh how people are posting about loaning him to a League 1 club. Haven't you looked at our form and the league table? This complacency astounds me.

We could be loaning him to a rival next season.

    Not by me but I'm 6' 3".

6', he's still growing, is above average and more than Kelman or Godden

Think we wasted time loaning him to L2 great That he won YPOTY. But feels like this just gave him a confidence boost opposed to truly testing him

Kanu was the probably the academy prospect who I was most excited about in the last ten years.  His movement in making runs to get behind the defense against other youth sides was excellent and he was a clinical finisher.  Since he has been on the fringes of the first team, it seems there has been less of those runs.  What I don’t know is if that was based on our system or he was just struggling against the speed/strength of league level defenders.  It seems he has gotten back to his strengths this year.  There is no doubt in my mind that he can be reasonably effective in league one.  Is he quick enough for a future in the championship, I am not sure yet

He's an extremely nice lad and has a great attitude about football, genuinely chuffed he's won this award.

I hope we can get him on a bigger contract and see what he can offer in pre-season, you never know.

Failing that, if Wimbledon stay up, I'd like to see him there on loan or Bromley.

I do believe there is a player there, he's hard working, has an eye for a goal, decent positioning and has a good attitude. If he isn't successful here, he will still have a long professional career in the EFL, I don't doubt it for a second.

    Well in Dan 👍🏻
