MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Preston Nth End : Saturday 11th April 2026 : KO 15:00
Good afternoon one and all, and welcome to the last Saturday 3pm kick off at The Valley this season …
We go into this today's match against Preston North End on the back of a well earnt 1-1 draw against Watford on Easter Monday, where Matty Godden came up with a spectacular opener at Vicarage Road, Preston arrive in a mid table 14th position with a bit of a mixed recent history of one win, two draws, and three defeats in the last six league matches, and we really do need to do well today, and hopefully get the three points to get us over the seemingly elusive 50+ mark…
TEAM NEWS… Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jones revealed that Miles Leaburn (ankle) and Collins Sichenje (hamstring) are both back on the grass, while Thomas Kaminski (shoulder), Reece Burke (thigh), Conor Coady (concussion) and Josh Edwards (ankle) are all expected to miss out….Jordan Thompson is available again for the visitors after serving a three-match suspension, while Jamal Lewis, Robbie Brady, Ali McCann, and Callum Lang are all sidelined.
HEAD-TO-HEAD…We've met on 76 previous occasions, winning 24, the Lilywhites 38, and the remaining 14 games resulting in draws, we last met at Deepdale in October 2025, when Preston were 2-0 victors thanks to goals from Thierry Small and Daniel Jebbison….
John Busby will be the man in the middle this afternoon…
TEAM…Jayden Fevrier will make his first Charlton start this afternoon…
Joe Rankin-Costello also starts as Nathan Jones makes two changes from the side that drew with Watford. Conor Coady misses out following the head injury he sustained last weekend, while Harry Clarke is sidelined with a knee injury.
Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell once again make up a back three in front of Will Mannion.
Fevrier and Luke Chambers are likely to operate as wing backs with Rankin-Costello joining captain Greg Docherty and Sonny Carey in midfield.
Lyndon Dykes and Tyreece Campbell once again start up front.
Tiernan Brooks, Macaulay Gillesphey, Reece Burke, Conor Coventry, Ibrahim Fullah, Luke Berry, Charlie Kelman, the returning Miles Leaburn and Monday’s goalscorer, Matty Godden, make up the substitutes bench.
Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Fevrier, Docherty (c), Rankin-Costello, Carey, Chambers; Dykes, Campbell
Subs: Brooks, Gillesphey, Burke, Coventry, Fullah, Berry, Kelman, Leaburn, Godden

And so the 24/25 season crawls to a close .. 😉
Shouldn't they be concentrating on getting fit instead of doing weed?eastterrace6168 said:TEAM NEWS… Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jones revealed that Miles Leaburn (ankle) and Collins Sichenje (hamstring) are both back on the grass

Big one for me personally today. I always go with my eldest who is 17, and for the first time his little brother is also coming. I waited until he really wanted to go so he was excited.
So for the first time, I have me and my two boys with me. That’s what it’s all about. He’s already excited. Sure the first ten minutes of the game will stamp that out21 -

Still no Kaminski... Didnt expect to see Burke on the bench1

No obvious right wingback in that lineup, unless JRC is finally going to get a game in that position. Or Fevrier plays the Small position from last season, as a left footed right wingback.
Either way, both JRC and Fevrier deserve a start.2 -
Small on the bench, eh?DyerConsequences said:

Probably - Fevrier has looked decent the last couple though.ross1 said:Clark and Coventry out. Clarke must be injured1 -

Who is CDM?0

Clarke injured? Or the latest to fall foul of Jones binning him off after 1 bad performance? There were certainly words had when he came off last week. Or was that good Friday? Can't remember. Maybe I'm imagining it all!3

TC starting upfront again. Like that has worked before.. ..🙄
And we have 3 strikers on the bench.
And people wonder why we are 3rd bottom for goals scored. And wonder why we dont win games if we concede first.5 -
Like the look of that team. Really hoping we're playing a back 4, with Campbell and Fevrier wide. Strong bench as well.0

But who is going to take our long throws?!0

JRC runs in treacle so I can't see him at wing back. Will be Fevrier unless we change formation, though he's not much quickerkillerandflash said:No obvious right wingback in that lineup, unless JRC is finally going to get a game in that position. I'm glad that Jones has put Fevrier there on the right. Against Bristol City Clarke was higher up the pitch than Dykes a lot of the time and it seemed a bit insane for us to have a bloke who's more comfortable as a centre back than as a winger playing there. This will be a chance for Fevrier to show that he can cause some damage down the right and open up a bit more space for Campbell to play in on the opposite flank as well. It's quite an interesting line-up though, Doc must be the holding midfielder and JRC isn't known for being good at stopping the team getting overrun down the middle so pairing that with a RWB back who is more attacking will mean Fevrier will have to have his concentration turned right up to be tracking his man down his side. Feels a bit like Jones reckons we're safe enough and is trying a more attacking sort of line-up to see what happens2

Small on the bench, bet he's pissed off with that...😂😂1

Jones is probably gonna fuck with us all and it be a 433 with Fev and TC either side of Dykes.1
